Today someone gave me a different view on this MB. According to them this MB follows logic. This view is of some of the viewers abroad. This sounds good as by now it's clear they are not going to copy the original MB word by word, event by event.
Tonight's epi made one thing clear, one of the most important word in life of characters of this epic is "Apamaan", insult.
This chain started with Amba, Dronacharya, Drupad, Pandavas, Draupadi etc.
Before insult there is a major injustice in many cases. The character undergoing such humiliation, gets determined for revenge.
Drona's Vidya was insulted by Drupad, so he created army of his shishyas, by giving them his Vidya. He prepared them well to fight for their Guru's honour.
Drupad after getting defeated by Drona's shishyas performed a yagya to get a son, who can take his revenge.
Amba gave up her life to take revenge from Bhishma.
Draupadi's insult & injustice done to Pandavas, was the root cause of Mahabharat war.
Dharma & adharma were secondary, but insult & injustice are the key words, in this epic.
Those who took Kaurava & Pandava's side were in some way connected to them either by relation, friendship or were part of this chain of insults in some way.
What is dharma for one may be seen as adharma by others but people who took sides were very clear about their motive. Majority of the births in MB are unusual. All were born for a purpose, staring from Shikhandini, Pandavas, Kauravas, Krishna etc. That Era was very different with so many unusual events happening around. No wonder a war was necessary to end this cycle of injustice & insults.

Minaxi ...This reminds me of your one thread "Boons and Curses". You had explained in such simplicity the complexities of the great events...This is one of that kind of thread..

I will be commenting here in detail...
Till then reserve😊

Unreserve:

Mahabharat is a very different epic...It has some revolutionary concepts. The fact that Draupadi had five husbands and still she was considered to be a Sati...is just one of them...There are loads of examples but this is not the thread for that...

We are on "Apamaan"...It all begins with the fact and difference between Self Respect, Pride and Ego, Same way as Krishna Explained Karma, Akarma and Vikarma...

It is when people forget the difference that the whole thing arises.

Drona took his insult so far that he forgot that his son is feeding his ambitions on Drona's vengeance..that he is dreaming about something which is not rightfully his...That a life in hunger was not as bad, as he made out to be ...and that his family's hunger was not bigger than the whole nation's fate..that he did not have the eligibitliy to rule a nation...neither was his son...
He took his Apaman to a level of giving rise to duplication of such vengeance...His revenge gave birth to Drishtadumna and Draupadi...who were borne out of the Havana conducted for Revenge...

Durri took his Apaman of being called a blind man's son so high that he did not think twice in disrobing his Sister in law...he thought this was the perfect revenge for his Apaman...
Shikhandi thought that Apaman had to be avenged and several births were not enough if one cannot be avenged..

This tale is of powerful humans...who were the epitome of Pride and Prejudices,...Their interpretations and misinterpretations of Dharma and Karma...Bheeshma bound himself to HP...but he forgot that HP was not only the throne ..it was the people...That was his misinterpretation...

There are many like this...and together they made the Mahakatha..which was ultimately climaxed...where all the insults, revenges, punishments...into one war...and one leader ...who taught us how and why this could have been avoided and it did happen!!!

Waise Forgot to say...Wonderful post😳

Srushti, thanks for reminding about boon & curse, the major cause of many events. Gandhari & Kunti's boon gave them 100 & 6 sons respectively.

Gandhari's curse resulted in end of the majority of Yadav men, along with Dwarika going under the sea.
Krishna through his yogic power gave life to Uttara's child.
Please add if I am forgetting any other event of boon & curse.

Unique point you have mentioned Minakshi - but very true.
Each and every incident is the result of some apaman or the other- which in turn gives rise to a new set of apamaan.

That is why in the Bhagavat Gita Lord Krishna urges Arjuna to fight like a yogi- who is not affected by samman or apamaan. Only such actions performed - without a thought of apamaan or honour yields true results.

jitatmanah prasantasya
paramatma samahitah
sitosna-sukha-duhkhesu
tatha manapamanayoh (BG, Ch 6, Verse 7)

For a man who has conquered his mind, honour / dishonour, heat and cold are all the same

Nice pt varaali 👏
"Na Samman ka moha, no apamaan ka bhaya", is an important line we have been hearing.
The same principle is advocated by Shri Krishna to Arjun- just do your karma, without expecting the results.
When Arjun was surrounded by all these doubts, he guided him on the right path. The path beyond injustice & insults. Only then Arjun was able to fight with a clear one track mind.

I can cite two boons which conflicted with each other...Though the first one I am talking about, can just be termed as Ashirwad...As it was given by Shantanu to Bheeshma of "Iccha Mrityu" and Shivji gave the boon to Amba for being the reason of Bheeshma's death!!
Ofcourse, Paradoxically Bheeshma himself was the reason of a curse in his past life...So he was born due to a curse, but he died because of a boon ..Dont know if this makes sense😕

Wonderful answer Srushti 👏
Till now I was watching this epic without any exppectations. It's getting interesting day by day. This epic teaches us what to do & what not to or never ever follow. Krishna comes to take us to a different level, he explains how to rise above all through his greatest gift to mankind- " Bhagvad Geeta".
Please enlighten more about, Karma, Akarma & Vikarma. 😊

Bhisma's birth & death both were result of boon & curse combined. He was born to be liberated like other 7 Vasus but his liberation was delayed. Before leaving his body, he infact waited on bed of arrows for the right moment to arrive. One has to undergo so much to complete this cycle of birth & rebirths.
