Yudhisthir was known as a royal sage. He was always for peace, forgiveness and harmony. One would even think if he was a Kshatriya by action and if he always shied from war. But when the actual time of war came he did not go emotional and sentimental about relations as one would have thought, instead it was Arjun who showed that weakness.
Yudhisthir always went by righteousness or dharma that is why he did not waiver at Kurukshetra and Shri Krishna did not need to teach him Geeta since he knew that that war he was going to fight was for Dharma. Whereas Arjuna was an emotional being and when the time of war came he went cold feet.
A kshatriya is not known by how excellent he is as warrior but how excellent he is in carrying out his kshaatra dharma and how he discerns the righteousness from unrighteousness while performing his duties.

Hmm i agree with the difference to some extend.
But what if Duryodhan would have agreed to give them the five villages?Yudhistir would have never fought the war then.He wouldnt have cared about dharam or adharam then. The way i see it yudhishtir till the very end wanted to avoid the war it was his other 4 brother's who wanted to fight the war no matter what.Infact they were ready to fight the very next day of their vanvas becuase they wanted to fight against the injustice but yudhishtir stopped them.Like i said if duryodhan would have agreed to give them the 5 villages yudhishtir would have forgotten about all injustice and kshatriya dharam of fighting agaisnt unrightoeusness
For me Arjun was more a kshatriya than yudhistir he was always ready to fight against injustice but yudhishtir kept stoppong him.He tried to save draupadi in the assembly hall but was stopped by yudhistir again he was ready to fight a war against kauravas the very next day of his vanvas. He had a cold feet not becuase he didnt want to fight against adharam but becuase in that fight he would have to kill people he loves and respecst as well.I mean come on he was a human being

i dnt think arjun was any less of a warrior coz he developed cold feet..he was human after all, and many of his father-figures were on the opposite side.. yudi kept his principles ahead of everything and everyone, even his relations and family..tht is why he was fine..neither of their reactions had anything to do with kshatriya dharma, according to lil ol moi..

They were all kshatriyas , no one was more or less .

Yudhishtir wanted to avoid the war not out of cowardice or bcoz he was unable to valuue the concepts of dharma adharma...he knew more about dharma adharma than anyone else . A born sattvic , he wanted to avoid war bcoz he knew many many lives by the thousands would be lost ...for their personal insult , their personal suffering , he did not want others unrelated to it to suffer .

Arjun did not get cold feet due to cowardice when he saw the Kaurava army but bcoz the enormity and finality of his decision dawned on him .

If Arjun got realisation by Sri Krishna , Yudhistir was the only one to enter heaven while his brothers fell for some flaw or the other ...Arjun for ego about archery , Bheem for gluttony , Nakul for ego about looks , Sahdev for ego about wisdom and Draupadi for partiality to Arjun .

Many call Yudhistir an addict to gambling but in the Mahabharat he has gambled only twice , both the times upon official invitation . He played fair and square and accepted defeat like a sportsman and lived up to his promise . He did not plead to lessen his loss . They all knew that the stakes were very high . They all knew that it was not just dice but something much more but this confrontation was inevitable . So they went along uneasily , locking horns .

The most debatable is his wagering of Draupadi .

Shakuni won with his mastery over the game . He took advantage of the fact that Yudhishtir was a novice .

Very few know that he was a good politician as he kept a cool head ...the other good political strategist that Hastinapur had was Duryodhan who won many kings over to their side .

Both Yudhisthir and Arjun were Kshatriyas.
They had different reasons for not fighting. Yudhisthir did not want innocent people to be killed in what was a personal quarrel/dispute.

Arjun was overwhelmed with the finality of the situation. On the 8th day when Iravan was killed, Arjun realizes (if he did not realize it earlier) that why Yudhisthir would have been satisfied with only 5 villages and not the entire kingdom.

I need to check the relevant line, but it is said even Bheem wanted peace.

The message being conveyed is that wanting peace is not a sign of cowardice.

Yudhisthir was calm, wise, peaceful, but expert on wars and in using shear as well. He had all the qualities, a great Samrat or chakrawarti should have. All the kings accepted him as their samrat not because they were scared but because he was dharm raj, he had the best knowledge of dharm. And he was the leader among his brothers becasue not only was he senior and the eldest but becasue he was most wise and inteligent. He never wanted innocent people to be killed due to their personal differences between Kauravs and themselves. Yudhishthar, right.from the beginning, was trained to be a king that is why he had all the qualities of being a king. Above all and main quality was to remain calm and cool under all the situation.

Arjun was hot headed and when it came to Duryodhan, he would always get angry, mostly it was due to the discrimination of Dhritrashtra and Duryodhan conspiracies done against them. Except for Yudhisthir, rest of the Pandawas wanted to take revenge from the Kauravs.

When it came to the battle, Yudhisthir because of his being king, senior, wise and all the principles of dharm, dutiful, he never once got cold feet against fighting relatives but Arjun got cold feet not due to cowardice but because of his love for his relatives not Duryodhan or Kauravs or rest of the kings but mainly due to his affections for his Pitamah Bheeshm, his Guru Dronacharya, and kul Guru Kripacharya.

Yudhishthar knew how to check his emotions in control but Arjun knew no such thing. He would get angry b
y any move by Duryodhan against them whereas Yudhishthar would calmly think and then say what is to be done.
