Hmm. So desperate was he to rule as a king, he was unwilling to let go of the throne even after the war ! Even after all his sons and grandsons were dead, the "king" could not let go of the crown !

Also public insult of their wife Draupadi was unforgivable.

well from what I have understood is that reason the war happened was because Dhritarashtra did not stop his son, he was so blinded in his love for his son that he could not see what was right and what was wrong, if he had just asked Shri Krishna to stop the war then it would have stopped but every action has its consequences
