Found it ! Eureka ! Eureka !...

"Pandu " is a synonym for "Kshatriya / ruler ".

Just verified it from Amarakosha, the ancient Sanskrit thesaurus. This name appears in the Second Khanda, Varga 7.

Folks, congratulate me- it is not easy to search from some thousands of words w/o hyperlinks... 😆

Cool-n-fresh, epiphany- you have your answer here.

Great job Varaaliji!👏

But I have an issue!🤔When I searched for the names of some other kings...the meaning was written Kshatriya/King/Ruler.

For eg. if you put 'Rama' it wont give you the actual meaning of 'Rama'.Instead it will say Kshatriya,Son of Dasaratha,King of Ayodhya. Can you plz try with some other name and test once?😳

Thanks for the links, but I am aware of them. They are only in pdf or html format- just as good as a book.

Lolz All the sons were married and again had sons!!...sons,sons,everywhere sons...and no dearth of women!?😲In all our narratives we can find only sons or sons in greater number!Yet all of them get married.Amazingly each had many women who again gave birth only to sons.😆Looks like women fell down from the sky!😆

hi all
i have another question:
seems MB is a story of oaths... taking oaths left and right.
i can understand bheesma's oath , and other oaths of revenge but...what was the necessity of gandhari's becomring blind for the rest of her life(its also like an oath only)?? what purpose did it serve??
she could have rather helped dhritarastra better in ruling the empire.

Hello. (:

That is an interesting question. Gandhari decided what in her opinion was best at the moment. They say she did it out of devotion to her husband. She saw no point in seeing the world if he couldn't. It did not serve any purpose except perhaps providing a sense of support to her spouse. She didn't think your idea was better. She considered hers.

But the book 'Jaya', I read that the real reason she put the blindfold on for her whole life was that she was angry at her father for marrying her off to a blind man. She was frustrated about it forever long and the blindfold was a mark of her bitterness.

I don't know which of the two ideas to believe. One is idealistic. The other may or may not be trusted.

However, earlier on, when Sage Parashara wanted to have relations with Matsyagandha, she herself asked the Sage to ensure that should a son be born of their union, he should be wise, intelligent, and as learned as Parashara himslef. She also asks that should not be blamed for having a child out of wedlock- not should the child be branded as illegitimate. Parashara assures her that he will return and assume the responsibility of their son.

I haven't seen the promo- so I am not sure if Satyavati (or Matsyagandha- as she would have been called at that time) is talking to Shantanu or Parashara

Yeah, this is what even I have read. But the events that take place after this as per the book and as showed in the first episode are a bit different (no offense) Please correct me if am wrong. Here is an account of the forthcoming events as per the book.
-Ganga leaves Shanthanu after giving birth to the 8th child, when he breaks his promise and asks her why was she drowning her kids (Am hoping you know that part of story)
-The 8th child, Devavrat, stays with Shantanu and grows up there
- After this, eventually, Shantanu travels in Satyawati's boat and is immediately attracted to her.
-Then he approaches her father and asks her hand in marriage

- Her father (can't recollect the name), denies him first saying that his grand kids would always stand second to devavrat and his daughter position will not be that of a Queen.
-He tells Shantanu that if he wants Satyawathi then he should promise that her kids will be his successors to the throne
-Shantanu denies this request and leaves.
-Shantanu is devasted and depressed. Devavrat notices this and asks his father about it. But gets no answers.
-He eventually finds out the reason for Shantanu's depression.
-Then he approaches Satyawathi and her father.
- Then happens the 'Bheeshma Pratigya'
-Shantanu and Satyawathi's marriage.
Ok, am a bit confused now. Can anybody please help me clear this up?
