When Arav was saved in the fight sequence
Swasti Chatterjee,TNN | Oct 9, 2013, 05.45PM IST
Aarav choudhary
Siddharth Kumar Tewary's Mahabharat on Star Plus is creating waves.

It has a lot of fight sequences. Arav Chowdharry who plays Bhishma had a tough time shooting. It was a major fight sequence. Bhishma and Parshuram both have a fight.

Arav Chowdharry says, "Amba demands marriage with Bhishma. He takes to his guru Parshuram and she tells the story and Parshuram hits Bhishma and he tells you must fight as it's my instruction although Bhishma opposes that how can he fight with his own guru. This fight sequence was one of the major ones over many seasons. Around 15 kgs is the weight of swords which is not sharp but is real. I am around 87 kgs and he must be 120 kgs. I was fighting with one hand only. He had to fight with the sword above my neck. The sword touched my hair. Had my neck been little up, I would have been injured badly. The authenticity is maintained in every department by the producer Siddharth Kumar Tewary. We have real weapons. The feedback for the show is also very good".

Hrithik Roshan would be the best Arjun in Bollywood

Hrithik Roshan would be the best Arjun in Bollywood
Shaheer Sheikh More Pics
Shaheer Sheikh, who is playing the role of Arjun in 'Mahabharat', is very excited about the positive response the show has got from the audience. In an informal chat with TOI, he tells us how preparing for Arjun was a life-changing experience, his Bollywood aspirations and who can do justice to the role of Arjun besides him.

How did you prepare for your role as Arjun?
I took one year to prepare for the role. I did a lot of research to understand Arjun, his character, mannerism, emotions, etc. I had to understand Arjun so that I could get under the skin of the character. Besides that I had to work on my body. For the past six months, I have become an early riser. I go for a run, work out and take care of my diet. I had to learn horse riding, weapon training and had to work on my diction. Preparing for this role has made me very disciplined. I eat on time, sleep on time and wake up on time. It has been a life-changing experience for me.

From portraying a romantic character in Navya to a warrior in Mahabharat, how has the journey been so far?
My role as Arjun is far superior to other roles I have portrayed. Arjun is a very difficult and challenging role. It is my dream role. I did not have to work hard for my role as Anant in Navya as it was very similar to my real self.

Who according to you is the most inspirational character of Mahabharat?
It would be Arjun. He was supposed to be an ideal student, partner, brother and an ideal friend. He was Dronacharya's favourite student and was always eager to learn. He was focused in life. I think today's generation should take inspiration from Arjun.

Do you think the new Mahabharat will be able to match standards set by the previous one?
I am not in the position to make any comparisons as I haven't seen the previous version. The producer of the current Mahabharat Siddharth Kumar Tewary has worked hard to come up with a show that is as interesting as inspirational. Our main concern is to educate the younger generation as we feel that Mahabharat is still relevant today.

Any plans for Bollywood?
I have no Bollywood aspirations. Entering the television industry was accidental and I am happy with what I am doing and have no ambitions of coming in movies.

Which Bollywood actor would do complete justice to the role of Arjun?
It would be Hrithik Roshan

Which Mahabharat character do you relate to the most in personal life? Yudhishthira

Rajul Hegde in Mumbai

Shaheer Sheikh, who shot to fame in the television serial Navya, plays the heroic Arjun in Siddharth Tewary's Mahabharat.

"I like to take up challenges and this role was one of the most challenging. There was no chance of refusal; it was a lifetime opportunity for me," says the actor.

"The show gave me sleepless nights but the character of Arjun really attracted me and I was ready to put in my best efforts to play the part to the best of my ability."

He had to adopt a more disciplined lifestyle, and cut down on outings and food habits. "Playing Arjun has brought discipline into my life. Now I rise early to work out on my body and I keep a check on my diet too."

He had to work on his body language, stunts and dialect.

"I've learnt ancient ways of combat like cane fighting. I'm also honing my skills in archery, horse-riding and sword fighting.

"Along with this I appointed a Hindi tutor to improve my vocabulary and diction. Though it's definitely a hard task, I am really enjoying it."

Dhritarashtra gets compliments from Gufi Paintal
Thakur Anoop SinghMore Pics
Young actor Thakur Anoop Singh is on cloud nine nowadays! His portrayal of Dtitharashtra in Siddharth Kumar Tewary's Mahabharat has been acknowledged by none other than two stalwarts of B R Chopra's Mahabharat - Gufi Paintal who played Shakuni and Girija Shankarwho played the role of Dritarashtra.

Talking about that Thakur Anoop Singh says, "The other day I was watching an episode of Mahabharat and got a call from Gufi Saab with whom I have worked in Dwarkadheesh Bhagban Shree Krishna. He was really emotional and said that I performed the role with great conviction and that he himself saw quite a lot of untold aspects of Dritarashtra which he was unaware of. He gave me his blessings from his heart. I was thrilled! Getting compliments from a versatile actor like Gufi saab, I was very touched."

Star's Mahabharat goes regional

MUMBAI: Star India is going to milk its mythological show Mahabharat to the T. Launched on the flagship Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plus last month, the magnum opus property has started travelling to the network's regional channels.

The show, which premiered on Star India's Tamil GEC Vijay TV last week, will soon be launched on Star Pravah (Marathi) and Star Jalsha (Bengali).

Having invested close to Rs. 1 billion and spent over four years to make the show, Star is confident that Mahabharat will help the network gain a foothold among younger viewers across the regional markets, thereby driving an interest in cultural and historical stories.

"Dubbing content is a common phenomenon today. It serves more than one purpose for a network like Star, which has multiple regional channels. The cost of dubbing is very low. The production quality is much better compared to the regional shows, which lack that kind of budgets," a TV producer commented.

Media observers believe that while some markets like Tamil do air mythological content, Marathi space has not dabbled into this genre lately. This, they say, may tempt other channels to experiment in the genre.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Star India is taking a mythological show to other markets. Life OK's popular show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev also has been aired on Star India's Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada channels. Mahadev will also be launched on Star Pravah.
