Part 1
Mallik house was decorated beautifully one night for the music party before Mallik and Padmini's beloved daughter, Madhubala's wedding. The hall was full of guests, who were happily chatting while soft music played in the background. The waiters were walking around with soft drinks, serving the guests. Madhu was dressed in a shimmery pink salwar suit and wore spectacles. Her long hair were tied in a plait that fell to her side. But the centre of attention was Madhu's bold and beautiful sister, Trishna who was dazzling in her expensive designer dress. Madhu watched her sister, who was busy in conversation with a somewhat sad expression. Not because she was going to leave her in a few days but because even today she got everyone's attention. After all she was a model, she thought bitterly. Trishna came over to her with her head high, smiling at everyone on the way. She sat down next to Madhu and began examining her once again while giving disappointed looks.
"Seriously Madhu what have you done to yourself?" She asked upset. "I appointed the best makeup artist in the city for you and still you look like you have come from a village. Why did you choose this dress and this hairstyle? It's making you look like an aunty. And these hideous glasses? I wanted you to look good at least today. It is your day today."
"Oh really is it my day today?" Madhu mocked.
"Yeah of course," Trisha said.
"Well if it is my day then I should dress the way I want and I am happy like this," Madhu said meanly with a fake smile.
"As you wish," Trishna said looking bored and she got busy with her mobile.
Madhu then turned to find Mukund staring at her once again. The nerdy smile he gave her made her want to punch him in the face. She was forced to agree to this marriage just because Trishna had refused due to her career ambitions. Then her parents had emotionally blackmailed her to marry him to fulfil the promise they had made with Mukund's parents before she was even born. She agreed for her parents and because she had a good image to maintain in front of them but she hated Mukund. He was rich yes but he was such an idiot. He was not the man of her dreams. Her dream man was someone else. As she gave Mukund another fake smile and turned away from him, her dream man appeared in front of her face and her smile became genuine. RK was standing opposite her and looked a bit awkward. Not like his usual happy and confident style.
"Hi RK," Trishna smiled and turned back to her phone.
"Hi Trish," RK said and stared at her up and down thinking how beautiful she looked. "You look so beautiful today."
"Just today?" She asked without looking at him.
"No I mean you always look beautiful but today you look even more beautiful."
"Stop buttering me RK," Trishna gave a laugh still looking at her mobile.
RK continued to stare at her dreamily. Madhu's smile had long vanished and she was furious. She liked him but he was also a jerk. He was also always behind Trishna, who never gave him a second look. All that mattered to Trishna was her career.
He never looks at me twice and here he is staring at Trishna like he has no other job, Madhu thought irritably.
"How are you Madhu?" He said suddenly turning to her with a smile.
"I was fine until you arrived," Madhu said hotly and he smiled without paying attention to her words as his mind was somewhere else.
"You look nice," RK said sweetly shocking her.
Madhu ignored him but inside she wondered why he was behaving nicely with her. He did not like her at all and usually made fun of her. So to get even with him she used to show that she disliked him.
"OK then just excuse me," RK said looking shy and he walked away from them.
That was odd, Madhu thought. How could RK be so quiet and shy? He was behaving differently today like something was going on in his mind. At the point, Mukund joined and she was temporarily disctracted from RK.
The reason behind RK's awkwardness today was that he had decided today was the day. He was going to tell her his feelings today. If he did not do this today, he would never be able to. RK had tried to propose Trishna on a number of occasions but he failed. She was the first girl in his life that he got attracted to. He liked her since they were at school but never had the guts to tell her. But now he had to because it was a matter of her safety now. That pervert was getting close to Trishna day by day on the pretext of giving her a role in his movie. But he could not speak to her in front of everyone. He would have to call her somewhere alone. RK was about to message her but stopped. If she knew it was him, she would probably come up to him and ask why he wants to talk to her alone. As she even did that once when he tried to talk to her. She began doubting his intention on calling her alone. What should he do then? He then got an idea and smiled.
RK stopped a little boy who was running past him and gave him a piece of paper and pointed towards Trishna to give it to her. He had intentionally not written his name on the paper. Curiousity would bring her to him.
"RK," Mallik called, coming over to him. "How are you? And where is Mohan and Radhaji?"
"I'm fine uncle. Mom dad are just there," RK said with a smile as he directed Mallik towards his parents, who were busy talking to some other guests.
On the other hand, the little boy came running to Madhu, who was sitting next to Trishna and threw the paper in her lap before running after his friend.
I want to talk to you about something important alone. Meet me upstairs in five minutes.
Madhu wondered who wanted to meet her. Just then she realised it might me Mukund. She would never go and meet him. But then she looked back the paper again. The neat handwriting did not belong to Mukund. It looked more like RK's handwriting. She felt butterflies in her stomach. RK wanted to talk to her and that to alone. What could it be? She looked all around but could not see RK. He must be waiting for her upstairs.
The music had started once again while the lights dimmed. The dancers got together in the centre of the hall and began dancing once again.
Madhu had reached the dimly lit top floor and found the door of the guest room open. She entered the completely dark room and found a dark figure standing near the window. She was about to turn the light on but he held her hand, stopping her.
"Leave the lights off," RK spoke in a shaky voice and pinned her to the wall. "Because after what I say to you, I don't have the courage to see your reaction."
Madhu's eyes widened and her heart began beating fast. It was the first time she was this close to him.
"I love you," he said quickly without thinking. "I love you a lot. Ever since I knew the meaning of love, I have loved you and only you. I don't know how it happened, but it just happened. I know you don't love me but I also know you don't hate me either. I know you have some feelings for me too but you just don't know. Just give me one chance, I will make you very happy because my happiness lies in yours."
Madhu's was so shocked that she was unable to speak. She just stared at the face she was unable to see because of the dark.
"I know someone else is in your life but you are not happy with him I can see it in your eyes. Just leave him and accept me," RK said.
Stunned at what he had said, he moved back leaving her. She did not speak. Was she so angry that she would not even to talk to him now?
"Say something please," RK said but got no response. Suddenly he felt his proposal was too lame and felt embarrassed. He then rushed out of the room closing the door behind.
Madhu walked over to the window and stood expressionless. Next moment, she smiled with disbelief. Just then the bathroom door opened and Madhu jumped. Padmini, who had been cleaning her saree after dropping a drink spotted Madhu and turned the light on. Madhu turned to her quickly. She had not heard everything had she?
"Madhu what are you doing here?" She asked surprised.
"Nothing mom," Madhu said quickly. "Nothing."
Padmini walked over to her and smiled.
"You are happy with this wedding aren't you?" She asked touching Madhu's face.
"Yes of course," Madhu smiled.
"Today I feel you are actually happy," Padmini said happily. "Come on let's go downstairs."
"Mom I'll come you go," Madhu said. "I need to fix my makeup a bit."
"OK," Padmini said and headed towards the door.
Madhu wanted to spend some time alone and think about what RK said to her. She could not believe her ears. RK loved her? But then why did he always run after Trishna? Maybe to make me jealous, Madhu thought. She could see why he have behaving a bit odd today. He was going to propose her today. Today? It was then when she remembered that is was her party today and she was getting married to Mukund. Madhu instantly became upset. Was it too late now?
RK was standing outside the guest room still shocked at what he had done. How would he face Trishna now? He heard the door open behind him. He turned to look behind him and his mouth fell open as he watched Padmini walk out of the room. He felt he was going to get a heart attack. Had he just proposed Padmini?
