What have they done to the handsome man?!!!😲, look how handsome he was during may, june!! I mean not even in last episodes and now that he is supposedly a superstar they can't spare us the beard! unless it's done on purpose either because they want to end the show the way they ended Rishbala with Rk in beard or Vivian is doing it for some religious thing!

By the way was seeing some old avis of some scenes and discovered that minus Madhu's looks, the story of Rajbala had potential before the rape incident, at least it wasn't distasteful I mean after the rape and once they started showing BDs things became comedy circus, though the dehati track wasn't the best choice, but strong flirty Raja who has a scope to change yet maintain his identity and Madhu for whom we were waiting to develp a soft corner were things we looked forward too especially after the Cobra scene, even we started overlooking the dehati setup as we thought they had a story and the leads interactions were good, at least I liked that era more than AK's era!

I'll be posting many avis tomorrow since it's the last day of the show (I guess) I guess then it woudn't be a problem even if we digress in this thread 😊

With the lead-couple's proven charisma and chemistry, the story needed only to not hinder them. Even the barest minimum story would have been fine.
But instead, ever since DVD were restored as the lead-pairing, there seemed to be a consistency on preventing them from wholly being portrayed as a couple, without considering the ramifications.

First, they permitted emotional bonding between the couple, with mutual care and tenderness - but the husband being mentally challenged ensured the relationship was restricted.

The day the male-lead husband was no longer mentally challenged, the female-lead wife suddenly bizarrely turned against him not conflictedly but entirely - and that too with the excuse that he had killed someone who had already tried to kill him *several* times.

But it was from the moment they started showing JM snobbishly repulsed by the village-rituals - not just the actually harsh ones but even generally -, that they showed just how badly they had miscalculated, enough to ensure that they would not only not be able to increase viewership beyond screentime-noncommensurate niche-audience, but also upset that existent niche audience needlessly in a situation that could be counted on to backfire in every facet.

A track showing a self-centred goal-oriented *male*-lead would have a chance of getting excellent TRP, because the mass-expectation would be that his wife's gentle love would change him without hurting his pride or his prestige, and the mass-viewership could be expected in very nice amount if the leads were charismatic.

But a self-centred goal-oriented *female*-lead would have an assurance of crashing TRP from mass-audience viewership-lack, unless played as a version of the highly annoying 'Taming of the Shrew'.

JM repudiating her marriage - with the excuse that she didn't find her husband acceptable and would not even try to work it out - might impress or touch niche-audiences, but was guaranteed to appall the necessary massive conservative mass-audience against her, ensuring viewership-lack and track-closure.

And Raja threatening or actually harming his wife would appall the fandoms and niche-audiences, whereas the mass-audience would have no problem with Raja torturing or humiliating his wife to far greater extents for her extremely mass-appalling conduct (he would be condoned even if his wife had been a traditionally-nice sort but at least then she would also have got mass-sympathy).

If it was a matter of viewership, this series could have done what the channel has done with at least one other series - set aside their intended story, cater completely to the mass-audience, and expect that at least portion of the fandoms would stick through with it.
It worked provenly in rebuilding the viewership in the short-term as well as the long-term.

If they had done that here for just a month or two, we could have been back to 3+ TRP, and with the budgeting saved from being downgraded from the generous expense for
"indoors and outdoor sets, locations, lots of supporting characters, extras, increased wardrobes" that was provided for the village-track with the expectation that the track would be pleasing to conservative mass-sensibilities and get very good viewership.

Instead, the track and female-lead were made appalling to conservative mass-sensibilities and ended up with the assurance of no significant viewership-increase, making the broad and generous expense no longer worthwhile.

But most importantly, they have been determined to have the story be about the female-lead's unilaterally triumphant and/or mass-empathizable (for which the male-lead had to be either weak/bad in every track from September 2013 onwards), without giving a damn that every such mass-appallingly presented track crashing with viewership-lack necessitated the next track needing to go in the opposite direction.
And every next track, within a few episodes the mass-appalling formula would be attempted as forcefeeding yet again, with the fond hope that the online audience's tastes and reactions would at some point hopefully be matched by the massive conservative mass-audience changing their years of consistent viewership-tastes for the CVs convenience.
That has never yet happened.
The only sync with niche-audiences happens when sometimes a factor or situation that mass-audience finds appreciable/unacceptable in its very existence may gradually later also become
appreciable/unacceptable to niche-audiences.
Mass-audience's viewership-tastes are a rock that one can generally count on to hold firm, while tracks and serials insistently contravening it invariably close down with viewership-lack.

Despite the 'chipkali in the staircase' scene later on return to Mumbai, I prefer to prudently think of the series as ended when Raja and Madhu made offerings as a couple at the Shiv-temple, with the possibility that the relationship might develop in a positive way. 😊

The subsequent fight-and-shooting scene's culmination started the pattern of JM being willing to play on her husband's concern for her and use that to get away from her marriage (apparently the CVs exist in some alternate universe where the mass-audience might consider such a female-lead not appalling), and Raja being besotted enough to be willing to disregard his family and his life for his wife who didn't give a damn about him.
And beyond that, the story and tracks got progressively worse with only bits of relief, balanced by the knowledge that we'd have the rare situation where fandoms and mass-audience would be appalled by every consecutive track (albeit for very different reasons).

What was worthwhile was ignoring the botched tracks and messed characterizations totally, and just enjoying the many likable scenes of the couple by pretending each such scene was an independent story (never tried it before this series, but surprisingly effective for enjoyable viewing).
🤔 😳
And with the butchered characterizations and many depressing tracks ignored, quite a few of the couple's scenes individually (even from some of the most negative track-points😃) are - visually and in terms of chemistry - absolutely enchanting.

Wish this series had been on another channel, at least from March 2013 onwards.😒

You are welcome Leela
Actually I made these avis long time before, I mean when the corresponding episodes to them were telecasted 😃 Back then I still liked something about the show, either Raja's attitude, good looks if not his behavior or the story 😆

@ Leelaa I agree with your post, loved it👏

I can never understand why this show was destroyed to this extent, I mean it seems like if done on purpose, like if almost all pleasant things are avoided and distasteful things insisted on, only few scenes were good in MEIEJ2 and this trend to glorify the female lead at the expense of the male lead is beyond my understanding!!

Najat, are you talking about Raja and Madhu? I think Madhu actually was done a worse disservice than Raja. They made her seem so incomprehensible and unlikeable that I was worried about it having a negative impact on DD's career.

On another note, wanted to say, its been fun sharing viewpoints on EDT. Will miss that!🤗 to everyone!
