excuse me for saying this..the lame hugs are back 🐷 After like, 2+ yrs of MB , back to square one..
and ishq tu hi hai mera sounds insulting when played on Rajbala
Edit..actually, i am tempted to say more...Raja was seeking forgiveness from Madhu n the whole scene was comic..like there was a list of things and Raja thought "arre, chalo aur speech de doon so she will forgive me for rape" ! i really dun care, why and how she forgave him..but the truth is, that rape RUINED the couple , to an extent that damage cannot be undone...its the biggest blunder frm CVs...wonder what did they think...now, no matter how much they act like a normal couple , they r tainted..
I don't know what to say, somehow I feel like you too, I feel that the show is a lost case because of that rape incident but also because of Madhu Jr character, the way she was shown from before the rape incident which made me not totally convinced after the reconciliation.
It's hard to give up on a show you got yourself attached too, I watched MEIEJ since 2012, but I got myself attached to it mainly in june-july 2013 when I decided to rewatch old episodes of MEIEJ, uperse I became very active from august 2013 in the forum (before I used to read some posts and walk away and even the show I used to watch the episodes and walk away, watch other shows ..)
How many times we kept waiting to get better tracks, better execution, better storyline but each time tracks started well and ended in a disaster, but this forced marital sex track is the worst ever in MEIEJ's history, by the way It had potential too, but somehow it killed Raja's character, I loved Raja when he was first introduced, I loved the strong, intelligent, sensible man, I didn't like his regressive toughts and dehati accent but I thought these things can be sorted out somehow while the show is progressing, so I really liked how he stood by Madhu each time, he was the one who saved her from Abhay and Leelawati's torture, I know he had regressive thoughts about women but he loved her and he used to break some rules for her, he only asked her to reciprocate his love, as a fan expecting a love story I wanted her at least to feel attracted to him even against her will, I wouldn't have minded it If she was against the rules of the family but she should have acted sensibly respecting them yet trying to change them using Raja's love as her most powerful weapon. I never said that her being against violence and illegal activities was bad, what I was upset about is that she only saw the bad side of Raja, she rarely rememberes his good deeds, how he saved her, I know he never understood her feelings but neither did she understand his, so both were lacking that connection that is a must in each love story, If from Raja's side, the fact that he was so influenced by his Tauji's teachings and couldn't really understand and communicate, Madhu as she always prentends being the literate person should have known that she should deal in another way with such people and that provoking them will only give bad results, if Cvs wanted to go this way of a saas bahu shows along with a love story and show social messages, then Madhu's character should have been like other Bahus, Astha from "Iss pyaar ko kya naam doon ek baar phir" is an example of a modern Bahu who respects her sasural yet tries to change the regressive thoughts and rules set by her father in law in a sensible way without creating a rift between her and her husband nor creating big problems in the house. I don't like saas bahu shows , I used to like MEIEJ 1 the modern MEIEJ with BW as a background and the focus on the leads, but since only old is gold at least if they went the village track to attract TRP aunties, they should have worked on the Bahu, she could very well be strong, try to defend herself, give it back to people like Agni and Bhanu (who would like the Madhu Jr from Abhay track?!!but with elders- even when they are wrong- she should have figured another way to deal with them and make them change.
Back to the lead couple and why I couldn't connect to them,
-Raja's character was good for me just the way he was as he never did something without a reason (be it killing Abhay or his parents murder), I just wanted to see his character develop, less violence, used only when necessary and not at the drop of a hat, no dehati accent and maybe in a middle term an entery to BW which could justify the change of accent ad the make over, but as a hero I expected more understanding from his side, if he was unable to understand Madhu, they should at least have shown him in some scenes thinking of her and trying to figure out what's wrong with her, why does she hate him this much and what's wrong with his lifestyle that she abhores this much, instead of showing him mesmerized while she is crying in pain with zero connection which made it painful to us as viewers who expected a future love story between these two
- Madhu even when she thinks his life style is bad, she should have seen the good things in him, she could have kept fighting with him, saying she hates him, rejecting him, I'm ok with that, but at the same time she should have been shown attracted to him and caring for him and interested in changing him along with his family (if Cvs were so keen in showing a typical bahu that can attract TRP aunties), the fact that she being a literate woman couldn't try to understand and figure out a better way in dealing with him was a let down
I know many will say she isn't forced to stay with someone she doesn't love in such a violent envirnoment and try to make changes but here I'm talking about leads who are supposed to have a love story in the furture otherwise I know each person has the free will to do whatever they want!!!!
So the problem was there from the very beginning itself, Rk and Madhu used to hate each other like nothing but at the same time they were so attracted to each other and cared for each other (she saved him from the falling light, both were in a trance during the Aa zara kareeb se sequence even when he was humiliating her!!), Madhu senior could understand RK's past and even promised Radha to bring her son back to her, she wasn't forced either to do that, but as any other pleasant Bahu she tried to do it even before falling in love with RK, so for me in Rajbala's story, the execution and the focus on the leads feelings was the problem, Cvs in their rush to show a love-hate story they forgot to draw the lines not to cross!.
So when they decided to show that "forced marital sex" sequence, they had nothing in their hands to make us relate to the love story, because beforehand and without any rape, Madhu was disgusted and hating Raja (they showed her caring for him in the kitchen when he was burnt, but the focus was very mellow that it didn't count when faced to all the scenes where she only states how much she hates him) and moreover Raja no matter under which circumstances he did the deed, he was from there only expected to keep begging and redeeming himself for a lifetime if he ever wants Madhu to forgive him and stay by his side, and since he even didn't feel that what he did was serious and hurtful and with his Taiji's revenge drama and all what he did against Madhu, he was only going to do that -begging, asking for forgivness -once the truth comes out
So Raja's character was reduced to a person who will keep living as per Madhu's rules and ideals for a lifetime just to get the forgiveness nothing is left from the strong, intelligent Raja who had a point in the way he was leading his life before and who just needed to redeem his ways and not turn into a completely defenseless person !!! I mean if he killed it was somehow in self-defense and for a reason, I know he should try to do things according to the law, but sometimes the whole system is corrupted that you can't get your rights even following the law, so what I wanted is a nuanced way of using guns, I mean one can't stand and refuse using guns when he is in danger or someone of his family is in danger!!!!! I also wanted him to respect women (he had it in him somehow) but he should have understood more about that and change his thinking progressively according to some believable situations where he sees that women should be respected too because they are human beings, can think and can do things sometimes even better than men, somehow they tried to show this through Madhu disclosing Bhanu and helping the family but it was so rushed and not in a very pleasant way
In Madhu's case I don't know what to say, nothing justifies rape, no matter what happens but Madhu also before should have seen what led Raja to what he was doing, understand him and act in a more pleasant way that can make people relate to her character, if he didn't understand her, she never did either, she never showed a soft corner, never seen his good deeds (the n times he saved her and defended her in front of others) she used to only remember his bad deeds so when she decided to forgive him, her volte face was abrupt and less believable, was she waiting for him to stand for Faguni Bhabi and support her to have all the flow of good memories?!!!, why couldn't she see this before the rape even then he did many good things for her, she could then too try to understand why he did the bad deeds !!!!
And since she barely had any soft corner or any feelings for him before rape, it made it somehow contrived for me that she forgave him after the rape, I know she stated that he wants to change himself and he broke his family's rules and dropped the guns for her, but don't we all remember the scene before the rape even then he told her he is ready to change and leave guns and become her Raju but then she refused and broke his heart, was she under so much anger for the recent events that she refused outright, was she so sure that he won't change that's why she refused back then don't know but all this needs clarification, Cvs didn't show us properly what our leads really think about each other or feel, I'm talking here about their toughts and the turmoil they go through, the dilemmas they are faced to when they are alone, had they shown that Madhu cares for him but can't accept his lifestyle from the very beginnig as she will be no less janwar then at least we could have related to her love and if we felt she loved him before rape, we could accept her forgiving him after seeing him change as we would infer that along with his changing some feelings were already there in his favor in her heart, but none of this happened!
So to sum up what disturbed me is that with the rape, Raja will always keep begging and trying to earn forgiveness even when Madhu is wrong regarding some of her ideals, he will always feel that she is right and she is the best and he owes her a lot as she forgave him such a terrible deed. The realization I wanted Madhu to have about the fact that Raja wasn't always wrong and that she herself too was somehow harsh and wrong in many of her decisions will never happen, now she is the big hearted woman who forgave him, so her character development will never happen, she can get them killed someday because of her pacific rules and last thing that also disturbed me is she never showed a soft corner towards him before so her change of mind even when they tried to justify it with Raja's change still doesn't sit well with me.
Here I don't defend violence, even If it might seem from my writing that I'm taking Raja's side, but it's not the case, I'm analyzing this from a point of view of a person
who expected a love story, a believable one from both sides, be it Raja or Madhu, Raja was always clear, he loved her (at least what he understands about love, he couldn't see her hurt while holding that diya in her hand, but she hesitated before saving him from being electrocuted), Raja always had some solid reasons be it for killing Abhay or his parents' killers), he did a big crime when he forced her but even then they showed he was drunk and drugged if he was in his senses he would have never done that (if he wanted he would have done it during village track), but yes I agree he should have felt guilty in the morning but seems his regressive thinking made him believe that even if something happened then it's not a very big deal he just saw her crying and asked for forgiveness lightly without understanding how much painful and hurtful and humiliating all this was for her, but as you can see they still showed that he loves her but unable of understanding her feelings, when he escaped from jail for 2 hours he cried while seeing her crying, he understood she is hurt but he still couldn't believe that what he did was wrong (or was he in denial mode)!!! but yes I also think that rape should have never happened no matter what he should have stopped midway realizing that he loves her and can never force her no matter how much hurt he is, that could have served the love story, in reality one can do anything under drugs effect but as a person who wants a love stroy in a show I wanted that rape to never happen or if they insisted at least show Raja in guilty mode crying his heart out punishing himself, but that wouldn't change the fact that he will never be like before he will always keep begging and never see Madhu's faults, so for me rape has destroyed both the love story and Raja's character!
