Chapter 2
"Rishab.." Madhu whispered stifling her cries, "I need to forget." She began kissing him on his shoulder and slowly moved up his neck. "Please help me forget...", she begged as she moved her body against him creating a friction that he would not be able to ignore. She didn't have to beg. He knew what she needed and would have given it to her without question just like she has catered to him when he was suffering.
"Madhu..." Rishab whispered, her name almost a moan. He lay there shivering in want, needing to touch her but knowing that it was important that she have the control. It was a bad night. It seemed like they had been having a lot of bad nights lately. If it wasn't her, it was him. Maybe the increase in the number of episodes were kind of a warning of the storm to come. But even if it were a warning, what could they really do about it?
They knew what the other needed at a time like this and would give it to the other willingly. Love, hurt, pain... they shared it all, after all they were the 'Lucky Ones', at least that is what he used to call them, his 'Lucky Ones'. Lucky... more like Cursed Ones.
Madhu dug her nails into his back as she pressed him close. She bit on his nipple hard, but not even a whimper was heard out of him. She rode him hard and fast leaving bruises rather than hickeys along the way. But that was how it usually was... rough. They could probably count on one hand the number of times they actually made sweet sweet love. She bit down on his shoulder hard as she reached her climax, drawing blood.
She lay on top of him breathing hard for a few minutes and then rolled over to the side, pressing close to him, taking in the damage. She moved her hand over his nipple trying to soothe it and then over his shoulder and then to the other parts of his body where she left bruises. He watched her movements as she traced his body. His body hurt but it was a familiar hurt, one that made him feel like he still existed. She didn't apologise and neither did he want her to. After all he too had left similar bruises all over her body. But it was always below the neck, after all that is what they had been conditioned to over the years.
Sure they cared for each other. They would die for each other. Rather if one died the other would just wither away. But do they love each other? He wasn't even sure what love was. Love was like an alien concept to both of them. They understood lust, want, need, desires, hurt, pain all too well... But love was a foreign concept. What they shared was dependence, a dependence that took root over a decade ago and without this dependence there seemed no chance of survival for either of them.

If the night brought in the darkness, the morning brought in the light. The problems of the night stayed the problems of the night. They made sure that the problems never leaked out in their day life. There were subtle gestures but they remained just that. It was like they were living two different lives. But that too was a part of their early on conditioning, wasn't it?
"Hey... chew on your food before you swallow!!" Madhu scolded Rishab as he gulped his breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast down without stopping to chew. When he didn't pay attention to her, she warned him, "If you choke on your food I am not gonna stop to perform the Heimlich Maneuver on you. You can choke on your own vomit for all I care!!" She looked away dismissing him.
He was about to fill his mouth with another spoonful of eggs when he stopped and looked up at her. Holding back a smile at her obvious concern over him, he straightened out his face before replying, "Well don't worry about it. I really wish I do choke over my toast though. As then I have a reason to go over to our new next door neighbour. She is a nurse and she can perform any life saving maneuver over me... you know CPR?!" He waggled his eyebrows at her playfully.
Madhu was brewing with anger, but smiled at him as she said, "Oh why didn't you tell me you wanted to be facing death. I can arrange that. I will just douse you with oil and set you on fire. And I will go the additional distance and call her myself so that she can help your burnt ass!!" She picked up her plate and mug and rose from her seat at the table. She walked towards the kitchen and dumped them in the sink in frustration.
He followed her to the kitchen with his plate and mug and placed them in the sink after her as he smiled at her jealousy. She turned away from him, keeping her back towards him. He slid his arms around her waist and brought her close to him. He laughed in her ear, "And do you know how old that gorgeous nurse is? Well let me tell you.. She must be at the sweet age of around 60 since she is retired and all."
"Really??" Madhu asked turning around in his arms. "Really" Rishab confirmed, leaning forward to kiss her on her forehead. Madhu adjusted his tie and ran her hand over the long sleeves of his shirt, "Off you go to work buddy. The dogs and cats of the world need their doctor."
Rishab grabbed his bag that held his medical equipment in one hand and pulled Madhu's arm bringing her close for one last peck on the cheek before he left. Seeing her cringe slightly, he looked down at her arm, noticing the reddish blue bruise that he had left a few days ago peaking at him through the sleeve of her tee. "Better wear a long sleeved outfit to work today." Rishab said pecking her on the cheek. "Rishab... I am not stupid. Get going now."
