Part 18
Madhu wasn't sure how she had missed it earlier maybe in her nervous at meeting his mother but now had her eyes wide. The interior of the house looked no less than a palace, grand living room, stairs to the upper floor and a huge hall with a temple. He took her to the every corner not knowing why he was doing this. He just wanted to take her through the every corner and room to buy some time with her alone. He knew he was attracted to her but feared to give it a name. Taking her to the upper level he stood there for a moment before opening the door. The way he had stopped and had taken time to open it any one could have guessed it was his room and Madhu was quick enough to understand it. She made a quick mental note to stay cool with a poker face.
"Yeah this is my room." He announced twisting the knob and as the contour of the room came in view her mouth fell open, her pledge to stay neutral crashing down. Before she could appreciate his room he said sounding disappointed. "I know it's bad."
"No." She said quickly. "It's perfect. The colors.. curtains… walls… everything is perfect. You have a room I had always imagined to be as mine." And RK's face lit up with all the happiness he had ever felt. This was the first time he had let a girl enter his room apart from his mother. Even Deepali had refused to come home when he had told her that his mother had wanted her to come home.
"And you will." He said and she turned around with a puzzled look. "You're buying my house and one of the rooms has the same texture and shape like it."
"Oh." This was all she could say after the initial shock she had gotten. For a second she had imagined herself here with RK as his wife sharing this room but then shrugged it off as soon as her mind pedaled. They stood there awkwardly for a moment not knowing what was to be uttered and then RK held her hand unexpectedly. He took her to a separate room and pushed the light switch on leaving her hand. "And that's my favourite room."
"Wow you have a theatre at home?" she asked bewildered with the fact.
"Yes. You want to see a movie?" he asked taking out his phone and dialing a number.
"Yes I would love to." She said excitedly.
"Maa? Yes Madhu and I are watching a movie and will be late. Okay." he told to the other side and hung up.
"She won't be angry if we spend time here, alone." She asked alarmed.
"No she won't." he said smiling and then added. "She can be worried for me though."
"Worried?" she asked mystified.
"Yes worried for my safety. You can take advantage of me here." He teased and she chuckled at his humour. "Yeah I can but that you are my friend I think I can spare you, you know." He laughed at it and Madhu couldn't help but stare at him. He looked utterly beautiful with this and she decided at once that the smiles that she had seen on his face were nothing compared to his laughter.
"Shall we??" he said breaking her line of thoughts.
He took her to the huge comfy chair and she sat crossed legged on it. Pushing some buttons on the remote he turned off the lights and joined her.
"Sadma?" she asked unsure she had read the opening credits carefully.
"Yes. This was the first movie that made me cry and then my life changed. I got my first movie." He looked in his eyes and found nothing but delight.
"But this movie was released in 80s, I think." She told.
"Yes you're right. I was crazy about Sri Devi. I was searching for her movies and found about Sadma that featured Kamal Hasan too. I bought its DVD and the day before I got my first shot I had watched this film for the first time." He told recollecting the day again.
"Roma says whenever we cry the most on a day the next day will surely be the happiest of our life." She told and RK smiled at her understanding.
They stopped talking and soon Madhu was sniffing as the film progressed. In the dim light that was falling on his face Madhu was sure she had seen him wiping his tears too. For the first time in her life she had seen a man cry watching a movie and her heart swelled up with emotion that she couldn't comprehend. The movie ended and RK found tears frenziedly falling from her eyes and he didn't mock or tease her. He knew how it felt when Neha left Somu at the end.
"Can you imagine that love RK?" she asked wiping her tears.
"I think I can." He said confidently.
"But how? She remembered everything again and forgot about him?" she asked sniffing.
"This is love Madhu. You don't believe it until you fall in it and Somu loved Neha to no limits." He told.
"You say like Neha didn't love him?" she asked a little harshly.
"No you're taking it wrong Madhu. Neha loved him but then forgot about him as she recovered and Somu tried to make her remember everything but she left him at the train station. Tell me one thing. Will you ever do what Somu did if the person you love loses his memory? Or will you leave that person and move on with your life?" He asked gazing into her eyes and Madhu was speechless for a moment hearing his notions.
"I don't know. I don't want this dilemma ever. I have had enough problems in my life." She said avoiding his eyes.
She was in oblivion that this dilemma was soon going to take place in her life and her head would be stuck inside the bottle having a narrow neck from where she could neither breathe inside nor take her head out.
