Sultan ends their physical haathapai (galapakadna) with ...yeh abhi Khatm nahin hua. Then punching also he started. Havan ending also he does.
basically he came to SS just to drag RK to fight.
Lest that Madhu convinces RK to keep quiet for his incite (this has not ended), he picks up the rod and smashes the portrait glass.
RK totally got the hint, body langauge of Sultan...that Sultan was out to get him using his father.

Radhaji and RK both behaved in a resolved manner, shocked and angry as that is their mutual equation with Sultan...Sultan is Woh Ladka for her, a ladka who is always after his son...and RK immediately getting the hints from his manly instincts.
Radhaji was good to throw the line to Rashid...Unhone Police ko to nahin bulaya, tumhe jaane diya...us din ka badla aise le rahe ho ? And Rashid did not even answer that and went ahead with his part of the story.
That convinced RK that nothing can be trusted and defending is best policy.
RK clearly understood what was Sultan upto. His need for revenge, anger and all the ploys.
Usually RK, throughout the story has never hit anyone (except that time when he hit Sultan for coming to the Bollywood party - that was worst clunk of the story where the whole track of Madhu's revenge along with that unwedding of RK was a debauchery to the story). He did not do that with Shamsher and not with Sultan. Today too he took Sultan's hit. RK has always been a defendent for his part. Initially he defended himself against Madhu, then Shamsher and now Sultan.
When it came to extortion also, he was law-abiding and asked Bittuji to tell the Police.
In case of Shamsher's attack, he gave it over to Bittuji and left the place...the results of which really went out of control. He took the blame in the show three times for that overlook and had even Shamsher attack him three times.
That way we can see that RK thinks before he lifts his hands.
I will not say that he did not react emotionally when someone slandered his father. Some people do know how to keep cool and give warning before they lift their hands. Why ? because in society you cannot just start getting physical. It is against the civilized conduct even if motivated to hit. These things become important when you actually go to Police and get the FIR done.
