Sultan revives Madhubala TRPs as the so-called romance did not get many eyeballs and the PH had to introduce Sultan's backstory and introduce new characters such as Sultan's mum and Sultan's adopted father to help the Rishbala story gain some needed push.
The story of just two protagonists who were playing "me-me" games was tending to be boring for the TRP audience who started to find it repetitive and just recycling of old scenes.
Due to the fact the main male character was out on honeymoon, the PH and the Channel had to bring in a new set of characters by paying them huge sums of money to make the serial a bigger success as the earlier story would lose it's potential to drive TRP audience to switch on to their channel as in most Indian serials the story between the leads ends with marriage and the story usually reverts to saas-bahu sagas, which incidentally gain huge TRPs eg., Saathiya in it's heyday and Diya aur Baati Hum these days.
But since Madhubala serial formula was supposed to be different and the Rishbala story ended with the revenge/unwedding/wedding drama, the new characters have added a huge twist in the proceedings leading to a rise in TRPs.
Sultan's entry NOT ONLY steadied the TRPs that could have taken a nosedive due to the absence of the male lead due to honeymoon or even the IPL, but it is due to the entry of this ONE CHARACTER that the TRPs held rock steady without nosediving except for the nominal change due to IPL. The TRPs are set to escalate post IPL and this week's TRPs are an indicator of that
NO one will pay good money to an actor if his track is not working, nor are the Industry veterans CVS, PH, Channel fools to bring in more characters to support the said character if his track is not working. It is plain ECONOMICS 101.

I can't comment anymore or reply to comments due to the IF limit on number of posts for Groupbies...so entertain yourselves bashing me, bashing Sultan, basing AR, bashing the production house Nautanki Films, bashing the Channel COLORS TV, who all pay AR to play Sultan, bashing Gautam Hegde and all the CVS who introduced Sultan the character and now have introduced Sultan's mom, adopted dad for the sake of the Sultan story to increase a cameo into a main character.
