CVs and S&M
Before I start, in the interest of full disclosure, let me state that I only started watching this show after the entry of Sultan. I have tried to watch it before as I used to be a fan of another show from which the female lead gained much of her fame. However, neither the plot nor the characters (whatever little I watched of it) appealed to me and hence I never took it up.
Thus it was a surprise when someone sent a VM on Sultan and Madhu with a request to watch the whole thing. I was surprised, somewhat shocked actually, to find myself enamored with Sultan at first sight. Somehow through him, Madhu's character also grew on me... she developed a sort of physical beauty that I hadn't seen in her character before.
None of the above are popular opinions on this forum, I know... And for a while I couldn't understand how people could prefer a character such as RK over someone like Sultan. And people feel strongly about RK, very strongly indeed – another fact that I couldn't quite wrap my head around. But as is evident from the daily activities on this forum, it is easy indeed to denigrate each other's opinion with whatever reasoning that is personally relevant – whether it is RK's camp or Sultan's camp or Rishbala vs. Sulbala.
However, I am willing to concede that whatever liking I feel for a character that is only about a month or so old in this series, it must be two- or three-fold more for those of you who have been here since the beginning of the show. I mean, that is a lot of time and energy invested into the male lead and the original couple. In that regard, I do empathize. Just as it is a torture for me to watch the perpetual smirk on RK's face, I imagine it must be similarly torturous for most of you to watch Sultan's (fill in flaws).
And thus, finally, I arrive at my long-winded point...
There is no winning at this point really... If the CV's are smart, and I have gathered that they are not entirely lacking in brain cells, they have already figured out that they have hit upon an essentially fail-proof formula – shuttle back and forth between Rishabala and Sulbala – even if the plotline becomes trite, the inherent conflict and tension (not to mention chemistry) is enough to keep even the most frustrated fan glued to the screen...
The CVs of this show are quite sadomasochistic, aren't they?
