Yup! I'm officially done summer school! And I passed one of the hardest courses I've ever taken! *Pats self on back* ahah. Anyways, my point is...I'm back! :)
Chapter Fifteen - Return Of The Parents
"RK?"
She took my name for the first time in a while.
I didn't turn to face her. I didn't know how to face her. So I stood with my back towards her as I heard her footsteps come closer. She placed her hand on my shoulder gently, but I refused to face her. That was until she came to stand in front of me and look up into my eyes. I stared down at her for a second but then looked away. How would I get myself out of this one? How would I lie to her when I had clearly called her Midhi?
"You left your watch on the bedside table…"
I looked back at her, shocked. Was she not going to question what I had said? Had she even heard what had slipped out of my mouth? I looked down at the watch in her hands and slowly took it from her. Then without another word, she turned and began walking towards the studio. I watched her until her steps came to a stop, I turned my back towards her again as I sensed her turning to face me. After a moment, I turned around to see if she was still there, but she wasn't. It bothered me, not knowing if she knew the truth or not. It made sense for her to know, but then why had she not said anything then?
I walked back into the studio, surprised to see her acting as though nothing had happened. She was already filming the next scene by the time I walked in. In fact, the entire time at the studio went by with her and I not speaking much at all. It wasn't until the drive home that we spoke.
"How was your first time filming?"
"It was alright, I guess…can I ask y…"
"That's good."
She cut me off for a reason, a reason that I probably knew. She didn't want me to bring up what happened earlier…but why? Why was she acting differently towards me as well? Nothing made sense to me. Usually I'd see a side to her making fun of every little thing I did, but this time…she was quiet. I glanced towards her and noticed an odd expression on her face, as though wanting to say something but holding it back. Was she angry? Is that why she refused to talk about what happened? Or was she in denial? Did she just tell herself that she heard wrong?
"Is there something on my face?"
I came out of my trance; only to realize that I had been staring at her the entire time and we had already reached home.
"N…nope, sorry."
"Is that…"
I followed Madhu's eyes towards a car in her driveway. A car I hadn't seen as of yet. She quickly jumped out of the driver seat and rushed towards the main doors. I followed quickly behind. As soon as I caught up, Madhu was already inside, calling for her parents?
"MA! PAPA!"
Were they back early? I thought they were gone for a while. I wasn't prepared. I wasn't expecting such an early visit.
I watched as a couple; a familiar couple, walked down the steps. They had smiles on their faces as though the world were a perfect place.
Madhu ran full speed towards them, throwing herself into their arms. She pulled away and began speaking.
"You're back early?!"
"They came a couple hours back."
I glanced towards Trishna who was walking down the stairs behind them. She looked in my direction with an odd smile on her face and then looked away.
"Surprise! We decided to surprise you, we'll be home for the next month!"
"That's great news papa!"
I kept my eyes on the man I swore to get revenge from. It wasn't until his eyes met mine that I looked away.
"And who's this young fellow, Madhu? I thought I told you to keep watch of the paparazzi."
Madhu and her parents walked towards me as I stood awkwardly near the door. Madhu gestured towards me and spoke.
"This is…RK…and he's an orphan. He's been living with us for the past few weeks now and he works with me too."
"Excuse me, young lady? You and Trishna have been living with a strang…wait, what's his name?"
"RK."
"Full name?"
"Rish…I mean, Raj, Raj Kumar."
"Oh, okay. Why's he living here?"
"He was sleeping on the bench outside our studio, so I brought him home. He's kind and even helps around the house! He can cook and…"
"He can't stay Madhu."
"What?! But…"
"He can't stay and that's final."
I listened to them speaking about me as though I didn't exist. I was standing right there when I began scanning possible living areas in my mind. Where could I possibly stay?
"Trishna likes him too though!"
"Yeah papa, he's cool."
"I said no and I mean no. Hey, young lad, I'll give you the rest of today to pack your stuff and go, understand?"
I quickly nodded my head and watched as her parents retreated back up the steps. Madhu turned to face me with an apologetic expression.
"Sor…"
"Not your fault."
I walked past her and Trishna to head to my room to pack.
