And all the while I saw those scenes, it registered that he loves her and I thought --- Everyone is saying this is RK in denial, and it's so obvious he is in love. Is he really so stupid that he can't tell?

Which then led to me thinking of other shows where the realization of love track is so stretched out --- heart beats faster, can't breathe, can't think --- and still the character thinks "I don't love that person."

And it makes me wonder, is this a universal phenomenon? Do people in denial really don't see something so utterly obvious? Which leads me to wondering --- are they really so stupid in this one thing considering they are smart in everything else?

The answer is yes. This is a universal phenomenon.

Love is a very complex emotion and cannot be put in to the frames of right/wrong, stupid/intelligent unless you have already faced some repurcussions of it.

Accepting that one is in love is a big task and like a leap forward. Believe me. And the more you delay it, the more it hurts.

All of us are egiost to an extent. But people whose life is governed by their ego, for them everything comes down to their king size EGO. They make all the important decisions of their life pertaining to this. Their ego is their mental thoughts that try to keep them safe by justifying their actions. They are against seeking anyones help even in the smallest possible problem. In short, these are people who have formed a wall around their heart as a shield against the outside world. And for people like this, to accept that somebody has actually put all their years of hardwork down the drain and successfully managed to break that wall and make a place in their heart is really difficult.

In short, EGO is just an illusion that blurs your vision. Hence people tend to ignore even utterly obvious happenings. For some like RK its a defence mechanism to shelter themselves, and to realize and accept that your defense mechanisms have faltered is an uphill task. So, this long phase of denial.

That was a long lecture on EGO and love. I don't know if it made sense. 😆 We have much more articluate writers here on this thread.
