Chapter 14
The cell phone rang obstinately in the Malik residence. She was in the midst of packing her clothes when she saw the number flash on the screen and picked it up immediately.
"Hello" said a male voice a little hesitantly.
"Hello" she said, a little surprised.
"Please come to my office in the afternoon today, say around four, I have to discuss something important" said the man
"Of course, I'll be ther……" before she could complete her sentence he had hung up.
Wonder what this could be about, she thought. The contract with Verma Productions had been signed and duly returned. This seemed a little strange that Nakul Verma would call her himself. He had said that all preproduction meetings would start from Monday next week. She didn't think she would be required for that. So what did he need to discuss with her now, maybe something about the press conference, she thought.

Nakul was sitting in his office going through his papers. He put the documents down, it was of no use, he told himself, I have to read this later when I can concentrate on it. His heart was fluttering at the prospect of meeting her. Stop it you fool, he chided himself. Don't lose your mind, keep it professional.
Maybe it was not a good sign that she had agreed to come and meet him at such short notice. He had met desperate actresses before, who were willing to do anything and everything for a role in his film. Maybe she was one of them. Maybe he should not have called her himself, he should have asked his assistant to call instead. He groaned, he should have done just that. Maybe he should call and cancel the meeting.
No, he longed to see her.
But in this profession one could never be too careful. He had learned things the hard way. He was certain he had left his gullible days far behind. He had been taken for a ride a number of times in his youth. He shuddered when he thought about it, he was a fool then.
While assisting his father in his films he was always very popular with the cast and the crew until certain incidents made him pause and think. It took him a while to understand that his popularity on the sets and studio did not have anything to do with him as a person but rather with the fact that he was his father's son. After that he donned the cloak of the boss's son and maintained a polite and respectable distance with everyone in his father's staff and later his own.
His thoughts were interrupted when his assistance called and said "Sir, Miss Malik is here."
"Send her in" he said, ignoring the beating in his chest and straightened himself.
Steady, steady, he whispered to himself.
The door opened and Trishna walked in.
"You wanted to see me" she said with a smile.
