Chapter 7
Madhu entered the room and decided to stand close to the door. Trishna walked to middle of the room and stood on the mark on the floor and in front of the three people who had her fate in their hands.
"We have seen your headshot, you look okay but let us see how you are in front of the camera." Said Gautam Shukla. He was the serious looking bespectacled man and also the director of the new forthcoming movie from Verma Production.
"Do you have your prepared monologue, Miss ….Malik?" smiled Sadiq Shiekh, the young, newly appointed casting director of the Production.
"Yes Sir" Trishna replied turning towards the camera feeling more at ease now, forgetting her nervousness at the prospect of facing the camera rather than these people scrutinizing her every move.
"Wait! Who is that?" Jayanti Ghosh said with raised eyebrows, looking towards Madhu. She was a veteran writer and had a number of successful movies under her belt.
"That's my sister, Madhu. She is accompanying me today" said Trishna "She can wait outside if you want" she hurriedly added. Madhu started to turn towards the door but a young boy in stylishly torn jeans and t-shirt stopped her and came forward to give Jayanti a note. She read it and looked behind her at the mirror, then said a little reluctantly "She can stay".
When she heard the word "Go" Trishna started emoting in front of the camera, her nerves had calmed down and her confidence was in full swing by the time she was done with her prepared monologue.
Trishna faced the trio. She had done this enough time to know that there would be no signs of approval or disapproval on their faces. She said her thank yous and was about to leave when to her surprise Jayanti Ghosh asked Madhu to come forward.
"Our head has asked if you would like to audition for us" Jayanti told a surprised Madhu.
She looked at Trishna who was mirroring her surprised expression. "I am not an actress nor do I aspire to be one and I have not done this before" Madhu tried to explain.
"Auditioning is not going to make you an actress darling" Jayanti said rolling her eyes. Which world did these kids live in?
"Try it and see" said Sadiq a little gently.
Before Madhu knew it a script was thrust in her hand and she was being ushered towards the marked spot in the middle of the room. She read a few lines and she knew that it came out as a recital with no emotions and feelings.
The young boy with the torn jeans took the script from her hands and asked her to emote to a song. A song started playing softly.
"Baahon ke darmiyan do pyaar mil rahe hai…….."
Madhu heard the song, closed her eyes and she started swaying to it. She could feel that he was dancing with her.
His stubble against her skin
His touch on her sensitive earlobe
His lips close to hers
His hand of her waist
The hunger in his eyes
The feel of his hand in hers
The escalated heart beat
She gave her hand to him and felt her hands falling to her sides. She opened her eyes realized she was dancing alone, all alone with a room full of strangers.

Jayanti and Gautam were leaning towards one girl while Sid was leaning towards the other. Nakul agreed with Sadiq. The argument was getting very heated and he knew that his decision would have to be the tie breaker.
He was sitting in his plush office with his trusted associates. Jayanti and Gautam knew they could argue with him but they did not want to. Nakul hated 'yes men' but he also had a knack for choosing the right people. In his career he had made all the right choices and nobody doubted his decisions.
He had taken over the company from his father after the latter's death six years ago. The Production House was a success during his father's time but the kind of success the company had experienced under Nakul's leadership was amazing. Verma Productions was now a force to be reckoned with in India as well as oversees.
In his personal life he was a workaholic. He was at his office before his employees arrived in the morning and he was the last person to leave at night. Keeping this in mind he had had a suite built next to his office so he could spend nights there too. He did go 'home' to visit his mother but most of his time was consumed by his Production Company. He was not married and did not have any desire to.
" My only concern is that she is RK's ex wife and the media scrutiny surrounding their divorce has been pretty intense, also the male lead in our movie is Rahul ….." trailed Sadiq
"Sadiq you know I don't care about these things, " Nakul said with finality. "Our image Consultant people will handle that, they don't get the big bucks for nothing." He smiled.
They chuckled while gathering their papers, the meeting was over.
Nakul poured himself some coffee, closed his eyes and laid back in his lounge chair. This part of the film making process was always his least favorite, thousands of auditions and the screen tests. He found it tedious but he realized it was an important part of his job, especially for commercial success of his films. He always made sure he was present for this initial stage either in the front with his team or in the studio behind the one way mirror.
He liked her, he mused, he had watched thousands of girls audition but there was something about her that caught his eyes. Her sister was nice too……
I am not going to fall for any one, he reminded himself and reached for the contract he had not finished reading last night.
