Chapter 48
It had been a while since Rishab and Madhu had wandered off from the group. So they decided that it was time to go back before Adam decided to kill Akash or himself to save himself from all the flirting and sexual innuendos.
"Hey what are you guys upto?" Madhu asked as they neared.
"We're roasting marshmallows," Adam said. "Want some?" "Yeah, pass them over."
"So, you guys do any sports at your college or otherwise?" Akash asked the group. "Basketball," Abby answered. "They decided to try a co-ed basketball team this year and I play. Madhu, Adam and I play recreationally too. Adam played on a local football team last season, too."
"Football?" Rishab asked, interested. "That's cool." "Yeah" Abby said enthusiastically. "Adam's a goalie."
"You girls play basketball?" Akash wanted to know, surprised. Abby nodded. "Yeah, it's a lot of fun. Don't you play?"
"I don't really have time for anything other than this, but in college we guys were into football and wrestling. Though Rishab is a natural athlete. You can put him in any sort of game and he is bound to excel." Akash declared.
"Me and Madhu are also doing Tae Bo this year."
Akash leaned back against a rock and crossed his arms over his chest. "Tae Bo... that's like that karate jazzercize crap, isn't it? That's a chick's workout."
"It's not chick's workout; bet you'd be on your last leg after an hour," Madhu said raising her eyebrow in a challenge.
Rishab silently congratulated himself for not making the mistake that Akash had just made. "Bet he wouldn't last an hour; it's a lot more difficult than it looks." He wasn't passing up an opportunity to pull Akash's leg and win some brownie points in the eyes of a certain girl.
"Well, we won't find out, will we?" Akash countered.
"Hey, I'd pay to see that," Adam said double teaming with Rishab to see him squirm in front of the girls.
Rishab shook his head and leaned forward to pour coffee into his cup in order to hide his smirk. Abby knew what the guys were upto and decided to save Akash from Madhu's wrath.
"Okay," Abby clapped her hands, "now that we're all here... let's play something. What about Truth or Dare?"
"I'm in," Akash said, wondering who he could bribe to dare Abby to kiss him. Or the other way around. Beggars couldn't be choosers after all.
Madhu rolled her eyes. "That's sooo high school, Abby." "Chicken?" Rishab asked, just barely lifting his gaze enough to meet hers. Madhu glared at him. "No! I'm in." "I wanna play, too!" Adam said as he sat up again.
Abby grinned. "What about you? Rishab? You gonna play?" "Yeah, you gonna play, Rishab?" Madhu challenged.
"Hell, I'm in," he threw out carelessly. "I ain't got nothing to hide. And hell, I'm always up for a little dare." "Yeah, let's start," Adam said excited.
"Your idea, babe," Akash said as he pulled his marshmallow off of the prong. It was so hot that as it came loose the crispy outer shell came apart and the hot center slipped out. His response was automatic and his hand shot down to catch it, not thinking about the fact that the center would be scalding hot. "Ow! f**k!" he shouted jerking back and falling off of his stool. He shoved his hand in the snow and sighed in relief when the burning sensation began to ease. "Um, you guys can all just ignore that," he muttered as he looked up and realized they were all staring at him. "Like I was saying... your idea, babe, so you should get the game rolling."
"Uh-huh," she turned away from her 'maybe would be boyfriend' and glanced around the group and landed right back at him. Alright, let's start with something light, she thought. "Akash, truth or dare?" He shrugged. "Truth."
"Okay," she thought about it for a moment. "What's the most embarrassing thing in your life?" "Hmm... most embarrassing..." He thought about that for a moment.
"Seems like he's got a lot of those," Adam teased. "I do not," Akash denied. "Oh, I know... hmm... no..."
"Suck it up and just say it," Rishab interrupted. "His most embarrassing moment was when he hooked up with this chick and didn't realize it was a dude until they started getting naked." He rolled his eyes and shook his head.
"Kundra, I'm gonna kill ya," Akash muttered while the others laughed hard. "Hey, you're the one who made out with a dude." "In my defense, no one knew she was a he," Akash defended himself.
"Alright," Abby brought her laughter under control. "Your turn, Akash."
Akash glanced at Rishab and saw the wariness enter the man's eyes. Nope, too easy, he thought. He'd wait until Kundra had relaxed and wasn't ready before he picked him. "Alright, Abby... truth or dare?"
"Hmm..." the girl pretended to think. "Truth." "Most daring thing you've ever done... what was it?"
"Um..." she said and chewed on her lower lip. "There're a lot of things I did... I can't really say what was the most daring. But last year my stupid brother dared me to stay in a morgue's viewing room for a couple of hours. It was fine till I realised that there were freshly dead people, may their souls rest in peace, in there with me. I'm a little bit claustrophobic, so it was really challenging for me and in combination with the darkness and the dead people..." Abby glanced at Madhu and grinned, "and you totally laughed at me when I had that panic attack."
Adam nodded. "You did scream like a baby hyena... scared the hell outta the dead." He laughed.
"Okay, it's my turn now, right?" Abby asked, excited. "Hmm... Adam, truth or dare?" "Yeah, Adam, truth or dare," Akash teased. Abby would make him pay for everything now. Retaliation is a bitch.
"Well, since truth seems to be the theme... let's go with truth." No reason to go with a dare. Yep, truth was the safer option.
Abby nodded and grinned. "Okay, what'd you do on your birthday last year?"
"Can I switch to a dare?" he asked, embarrassed just thinking about his last birthday. "Nope," she answered sweetly.
Madhu laughed out loud and high fived her best friend. She had known she wouldn't let him down easy. "Good one, Abby." "God," Madhu chuckled, "I'm embarrassed for you, Adam."
