Wah - amazing posts today in this thread! To be able to take such a depressing epi and see so many nuances in it, so much to expand on - just 👏 to all the lovely writers here. (That's lovely writing, I mean...no pressure, ladies and gents, to BE lovely! 😆)
I've thought this before with this show, but even more so now as it is progressing - that this is the strangest soap I have ever seen. In spite of having all the archetypes, all the cliched ideas firmly in place, it unfurls in ways which are consistently unpredictable.
For example, look at these two vamps we have been given. It is like they are running a baton relay race. Deepali takes a lap, wreaks havoc in in the home, and then passes the baton to Trishna. Trishna, whose burning jealousy is obviously getting the better of her humanity, such as it is, verbally lashes everyone within spitting distance with her razor blade of a tongue, and then - poof - we are back with Deepali again. They don't even know each other yet they work perfectly in tandem - neither one wants Madhu to have RK, it's just that one wants him for herself while the other just wants Madhu miserable.
Jealousy is an extremely complex emotion to film, hai na? In fact, it is complex even to feel. It is horribly uncomfortable, acid in its aspect, corrosive in the extreme. I actually think, as hateful as Trishna is, and she is, they are playing her well. She is that person who, drowning in her own sense of inadequacy, wishes to stand on the head of another to keep her own above water. She doesn't realise the obvious - they will both drown.
Deepali, too, is imprisoned, she is just so much more overt in her vampiness! The actress playing her seems to know she has excellent scenery to chew, and she's doing it with gusto.
Eventually, Madhu and Rk are just going to have to stand up straight and shake these demons off of their shoulders. But for now I think they don't have that ability, so it's going to be twists and turns and MU's for us poor viewers until their characters mature, I think.
A confession of love from RK would be beautiful, but right now I think its importance would be more in the fact that he and Madhu would be a team going forward than in the fact that it is achingly romantic (which it would be!) It seems like if these two don't link arms and go forward together, there will be a plethora of forces too happy to move them ever further apart.
But, like some have said above already, it may be that Madhu must face the spectres of her past as RK has begun to do. Sometimes I think he understands her more than she does herself.
Well...thanks as ever for all the great writings here everyone! It is always a bright spot in the day to come and read here! And it has been a rather not-bright day in my neck of the woods.
