Aishwarya Rai is from Mangalore and her mother tongue is Tulu. Mangalore is a part of Karnataka. Sridevi, Hema Malini, Vyjayanthimala, Aishwarya Rai all are from South. Rani, Kajol, Sushmita are Bengalis. Priyanka Chopra is Punjabi😃. There are not many Punjabi actresses in Bollywood. But most actors are.

Aishwarya hails from the "BUNT" community of Tulu land of coastal Karnataka(Mangalore,Udupi..Basically the Konkan district off the Western Ghats)...PEople with the surname "Rai,Shetty,Pai,Hegde" etc are BUNTS......Sunil Shetty,Shilpa Shetty,Aishwarya Rai etc belong to the BUNT community..A very close knit community,and they are all related to each other in some way or the other.I had a friend of mine who was a Hegde,and she was related to Ash and Shilpa Shetty in a remote way.....Though certain Jains and Konkanis too have the surname "HEGDE"....All these communities belong to coastal Karnataka,and the main two communities being the BUNTS and the Konkanis(Bhat,Shenoy,Kamat,Rao etc)

As for "Rai" being a Punjabi name,there are ALOT of south Indians who have the last name as "sharma" and "verma"(most prominent..Ram Gopal Verma😛,an Andhraite)...My Malayalee classmate has his last name as "Verma",and my erstwhile neighbour was a Tamil Iyer with the last name "SHARMA".."Chaudhary" is often considered to be a Bengali surname,but the famous VJ/actress Sophie Chaudhary is a muslim,and she isnt a Bengali....😛
