Another beti saga....

After her successful debut as the lead in Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, Neha Bamb will now be seen in Maayka on Zee TV The show is about three . daughters and their emotional bond with their maternal home after their marriage.

"I had three offers but the character (Maahi Malhotra) in Maayka was closest to me. It is a role of a young girl, lively and active," says Bamb on why she accepted the role.

Produced by Ashwin Varma, Klassic Studios and Films (Chacha Chaudhary), Maayka is set in a Punjabi household.

Are there any differences in the working styles of different production houses? "None at all. Since I have started shooting, I have been working for days on end. But I am sure it will settle down after 25 episodes," she says.

The show also feature Sudhir Pandey, Nandita Puri, Pankaj Berry, Neelima, Vinit Raina and newcomers Urmila Kanitkar and Aarti Singh.

Bamb has acted in the South Indian film Bumarelu. "Once Maayka settles down, I am open to doing another film. As for Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai, I am glad it didn't drag forever," says Bamb.

Indiantelevision.com's News Headlines
Zee ramps up prime time schedule with 'Maayka Saat Zindagi Bhar Ka'

Indiantelevision.com Team

(9 January 2007 5:00 pm)

MUMBAI: Zee TV is sprucing up its primetime offering with the launch of a new weekly show titled Maayka Saat Zindagi Bhar Ka at 8:30 pm.

Yet another family drama, the show will kick off on 15 January and replace Jab Love Hua, which has been shifted to 10:30 pm and conveniently kicks Johnny Aala Re off the channel.

</>
Zee TV senior VP programming Ashvini Yardi tells Indiantelevision.com that the channel will be replacing Jab Love Hua with new show Maayka Saat Zindagi Bhar Ka and will position the former into the 10:30 pm slot.

Maayka Saat Zindagi… revolves around the story of a Punjabi family of three daughters and a son, which struggles to preserve the family bond after the daughters get married.

It is evident from the programme restructuring that Zee has placed immense faith in the new serial as it will lock horns with Star's Kasauti Zindagi Ki at the same time band.

This rounds up Zee TV's programming plan with Dulhaan, Maayka…., Kasamh Se, Saath Phere, Betiyann and Jab Love Hua to strengthen their weekday 8 - 10.30 pm time band.

But will the regular Zee fans continue to be glued to the channel during the crucial 9-10 pm slot or will they flock to see SRK in his new avatar, is yet to be concluded?

The 'Bamb'shell's back on TV!

However, Neha Bamb's not returning in an Ekta Kapoor serial

GITA HARI

This pretty girl who loves to be in simple ganjis with denims, started off as a model and landed in the South doing films there but got recognition in Mumbai as Kripa, the love of rockstar Angad, in Sony's Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai. That's Neha Bamb for you! After KYPH bid adieu, Neha was missing from the television scene as she was busy giving final touches to her Telugu film Bhumeralu opposite Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame. Neha says, "I was acting in the movie when Kaisa Yeh… was still on air. The movie released in Hyderabad after my serial went off air. I took a break for oneand-a-half months, just to feel fresh before I start my next serial."
Neha would very soon be playing Mahi in the daily soap Maayka. She says, "The role is different as it does not showcase just one protagonist. There are three daughters in a Punjabi family and I play Mahi, the youngest one."
Talking about her new role, the Taurean who does not hesitate to call a spade a spade, admits "I am blunt and frank. I relate to my character of Mahi, who is the youngest of the three sisters,
she is just like me. Chulbuli, talkative, a spitfire and a very happy girl, I identify myself with the role. No rona-dhona or melodramat- me ." Despite being an actor of a single heroine serial KYPH, Neha has bonded well with the other two girls, as she reveals, "For the first time I am shooting with actors of my age group. We wait for each other and have a blast on the sets."
Considering she became popular with an Ekta Kapoor serial, wasn't she offered any serial after KYPH? "Yes, I did," informs Neha, "Ekta offered me a role for a serial to be shot in Dubai. I would have to spend two years there. I did not go for it as my family would not allow me to stay away from home." Let's gear up to view the sweet and docile Kripa transform into a spitfire on the small screen.

Makrand's 'Risk' fascination
After shooting for Vishram Sawant's 'Risk', actor Makrand Deshpande found the title track 'Lakhon karodon mein koi leta hai risk' so enthralling that he has named his upcoming play 'Karodon Main Ek'.

In 'Risk' Makrand plays Hari, right hand of the Don Khalid (Vinod Khanna). Actor Yashpal Sharma, who plays the Don's brother, is also Hari's friend in the film. Incidentally, Makrand and Yashpal share a great rapport off screen too.

Back on track
Last Sunday night, actors Dharmendra and Neil Nitin Mukesh shot for the film 'Johnny Gaddaar', on the Mumbai Central station for Shriram Raghavan's film 'Johnny Gaddaar'. All scenes were successfully canned.

It may be recalled that it was around the same location where director Kaizad Gustad's assistant Nadia Khan, a British-Pakistani, was hit by a speeding train. Kaizad was then shooting for his film 'Bombay Central' (May 25, 2004).

'Maayka' beckoning Joining the league of Zee's woman-centric-shows, ('Betiyann', 'Dulhann', 'Kasamh Se', 'Saat Phere'), is the new show 'Maayka', to go on air on January 15. The setting is that of an affluent Punjabi family.

Sudhir Pandey plays Brij Mohan, a traditional Punjabi businessman. Nandita Puri plays his wife Moni Malhotra. The show also includes actors Urmila Kanitkar, Aarti Singh and Neha Bamb playing the three Malhotra daughters—Soni, Mahi and Raaji respectively.

'Don' goes metallic
Bhushan Kumar of T-series has launched a special pack of 'Don' DVDs and CDs. The limited edition pack, having a metallic look, has been circulated only amongst select people. Bhushan's wife, Divya Khosla says, "We wanted to launch a pack that went with the theme of the film. So we designed it in metal and in black and white.

It's been specially made in Denmark. It is expensive too (Rs 500 per pack)." She adds, "We are planning to do something unique for our next film, 'Salaam-e-Ishq' too. But since it is a romantic film, the pack will definitely will be more colourful." Bhushan has presented about 10 of these packs to Shah Rukh Khan and five to Priyanka Chopra.

Dippshika's destination is Dubai
Actor Dippshika is all set to fly to Dubai as part of the cast of Paritosh Painter's play 'See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil' (Part 2) which premieres in Dubai on January 19. The actor has replaced actor Rupali Ganguly, she being involved with the 'Bigg Boss' (Sony) show.

The play is about three challenged young people—Shree (Ashish Roy) is Blind, Aditya (Paritossh Painter) is deaf and Manav (Jayesh Thakkar) is dumb.

What a horror!

The hoardings of Maayka

How regressive can the small screen get? After Betiyaan, Paraya Dhan, and whatchmacallit, there's another horror on its way in the form of the new TV show Maayka (and all this while you thought it was spelt 'maika').

Hoardings plastered all over town go with taglines like Naam kya badla, rishtey badle and more inane drivel. It's okay to cater to the female audience, but why don't telly folk realise that such tripe is nauseating, to say the least?

Who wants programming that reinforces female stereotypes? Are we still living in the 18th century? Please, show us some respect.

Come home to 'Maayka'

After Hours Correspondent

Monday, January 15, 2007 20:28 IST

Sudhir Pandey and Nandita Puri

Mix a gregarious Punjabi household with some heart-tugging emotions, all centered on the age-old theme of a girl's lifelong bond with her maternal home and the result is 'Maayka—Zindagi Bhar Ka Safar' the latest show on Zee. The show has gone on air this week.

The show could well bring back the memories of 'Amaanat' (Zee), the Punjab-flavoured 1990s show that had its own bevy of daughters carving their destinies under the benign shadow of their father.

Plot pointers

Curiously, 'Maayka' casts Sudhir Pandey (the patriarch, Lahori Ram in 'Amaanat') as the father yet again. Only, this time, he will be accompanied by actor Nandita Puri who plays an indulgent mother to the couple's three daughters, all of whom have their own distinct personalities.

Sudhir speak

Sudhir, for whom the show brings back memories of 'Amaanat', however, says that his character Brij Mohan Malhotra is quite different from Lahori Ram, although the Punjabi essence recurs. "This time, I have a wife and that adds a lot of emotional depth!" he says.

Girlie group

Actor Neha Bamb, who disappeared after 'Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai', resurfaces as Maahi, the youngest daughter, a romantic and a chatterbox. The other two sisters are newcomers Aarti Singh and Urmila Kanitkar. Incidentally, Aarti, who plays Soni, has signed up for a Telugu film, and Urmila, who plays Raaji on the show, is an established Marathi soap actor. She has already won an award for her role in a Marathi film 'Savli'. "I am barely sleeping for five hours a day, and I am used to sleeping 12 hours!" groans Aarti. But she adds that the unit shares a good bonding.

Tale watch

The show will move from the impending marriage of the eldest daughter to the travails of the others, and the bonds that tie the married daughter to her parents' home. "Mine is a sweet character, and yes, there are bound to be a few teary-eyed scenes," laughs Urmila.

"It's now up to the audience to decide if 'Maayka', the channel's first daily soap of the year, touches a chord again with the viewers," says Ashwini Yardi (Zee programming head).

Govinda turns fitness guru

...gives tips to niece, TV actor Arti Singh
DEEPALI DHINGRA Times News Network
Being Govinda's niece has one disadvantage — "People expect more out of you in terms of acting," says Arti Singh, who made her debut on television with the serial Maayka. The young lady has acted in a Telugu film which hasn't released yet and has assisted her uncle in their home production Sukh. "I always wanted to be an actor and so used to hang out on the sets. The 32 days that I spent on the sets of Sukh assisting my uncle was a learning experience," she says. Arti, who's upcoming actor Krishna's sister, adds that Govinda gives her acting tips too. "He told me to be confident in whatever I do. Just two days back, he was giving me fitness tips and was telling me how to keep my weight in check," she says. So does she harbour any Bollywood dreams? "Maybe after a year or so, I'll try my luck there. But frankly, I'm more interested in the South film industry," says Arti.
