Interview : Debojit Saha, the man of the moment | |
Did you always want to be a singer? I got attracted towards singing since I was ten but didn't enroll myself for any formal training at that age. Music was innate in me and as I grew up I realized that it's so much a part of my life and that I wanted to be a singer. I took music seriously and senior musicians advised me to train myself formally. So I took classical music lessons from Deepak Bhattacharya and Amarendra Chakraborty in Silchar. My mother always wanted me to be a good singer. So I gave up my job after she died and headed to Mumbai to try myself out. Did you give any professional performance or was Sa Re Ga Ma Pa your first musical platform? I had been a stage performer since my school and college days. I was also a radio and TV artiste. A self-titled album, sounds great! The album has been named such so that people are able to relate to the album with my name. It's a solo album comprising eight songs. What about the songs? Do they follow a specific genre? Yes, the songs are basically romantic in nature and it is out an out a romantic album. The songs have been penned by Sameer and composed by Biddu. There is one special number composed by Ismail Durbar and it is the same track that I sang during the finals of the India Ki Voice contest. Another song has been put in by Mehboob. Other than the originals there are also remixes of popular tracks like 'Ek haseena thi', 'O hum dum' and so on. These are actually the tracks that people liked during the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge. The album also includes the theme song sang by the finalists. How do you feel that your first album is out? It's a very different feeling, but I'm enjoying it. Lots of offers for shows are coming and I'm really busy currently. I've been to US recently for a show along with Saif Ali Khan, Sushmita Sen, Preity Zinta and Celina Jaitley. The response has been good. What are the kinds of offers that you've got?
It's definitely celebration time for you? Through ZEE TV's music talent hunt show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2005 I got the opportunity to show my talent. I hope I can live up to the expectations of my fans. Luck has been on my side so far, hope it remains the same forever. What do you think is more important, be a singer or performer? I believe both the things have to go hand in hand. If you are not a good singer you won't have the confidence to be a good performer. In today's musical scene you've to be a complete performer to impress the audience. At this stage what are the other things that you desire from life? I have got more than what I've wanted. So there are no unfulfilled desires left. I'm happy today in the place I'm and also contented to be able to fulfill my mother's dream. The only thing that I want to do now is to prove myself to the people. |
