He was running, running as fast as his feet would carry him. He looked back and breathed a sigh of relief. At least, there was no one right behind him. He ran and ran and ran until he reached a river.
Panting slightly, he looked around for how he might cross it. But there wasn't much time for all that. There wasn't time for him to think. He could hear the thumping feet behind him. He had to escape, he had to leave and go. He plunged into the ice cold water before remotely hearing the splash of about ten more people.
The river was wide. Wider, than he had ever encountered. But he had to do this. Panting, he swam on. The water was getting to his lungs and he had almost given up hope. He no longer had an urge to swim across. Behind him, the distance was closing. He could now clearly hear the screams as they tried to shoot him. He had surrendered…
Slowly he tried to turn his head, as his wallet fell into the river.
It was wide open, and he could now see her picture. She was smiling up to him, with soft hazel eyes.. almost daring him to succeed. Daring him to go forward and win this. He too, smiled softly. No, he decided, he could not give up. He could not let her down. He could not let his happen to him and her.. both. He had to go back. He had to go back to tell her he loved her, and make her realize that he could do anything for her.
The troops were almost closing the distance behind him. He took his decision on the spur of the moment and lunged forward. With a sudden burst of energy, he flapped his arms again remarkably fast. He would go back. To her, where he really belonged. Once again, he would make her realize that he was for her.. if he suffered the ordeal, it was only because of her.. only because she had wanted him to do it. She had succeeded where he himself had failed. He would, at any costs, go to her. He would tell her he loves her. He would ask her to marry him. He would ask her to move in with him.
Yes, he decided.. it was time.
Time to go back to his Naina 'ah' Singh.
