I haven't really been keeping track of a lot of shows that are currently on air because honestly none of the characters stand out to me. Every show (or almost every show with the exception of NBT) these days seems quite mediocre to me and the characters just don't seem grounded enough for me to even bother investing in them. So for some reason I just cannot think of a role for MR - at least not one that's currently on air. It's not that I don't want to see him as anyone other than Dutta, but just that the choices we have today just don't seem worthy for ANY decent actor.. Not just him. Or maybe that's just me.. 😆

I love Mohan's character in NBT but I have to admit k he is a very care free type banda. Very bindass and very NORMAL. I guess it would be something different for MR if he had been casted for the show but it really seems too mellow for MR's screen presence. After seeing what he is capable of as an actor, I just don't think I'd be able to forgive him for returning with a character that doesn't at least come close to allowing him the same performance caliber as Dutta.. He can't just be the guy next door, not that he isn't capable of playing that character.. Just that for me, I don't think I need to see HIM as the boy next door because woh toh 100 actors aur play kar sakte hain. But MR jaise kum hi hain toh he should really invest in stronger characters that other actors fail to do justice to. Only unfortunately, filhaal toh kuch bhi STRONG nahi hai TV pe.. Not strong enough for my taste. 😆

ASR is like a CHINDI version, a mere SHADOW of what Dutta was...a highly SUPERFICIAL cliched character seen a million times on TV before...and it doesn't help that it's played by an expressionless genius...I think MR would be downgrading if he did a character like that.

You know Fivr, not to take anything away from Kunal on that front either...I don't think ANYONE can play a boy next door with NATURAL EASE either...most shows just cast "good looking hunks" as "boy next door" types and they think their job is done...fangirls drooling, mission accomplished...IF is more than testament to that given the kind of shows I see ppl running after these days.

I actually don't think that most of these guys are CONVINCING as boy next door types...the character gets lost in the layers of superficiality somewhere...I find Mohan to be refreshing in contrast to all that and Kunal is definitely a big part of that...he is believable as that chilled out sa character who has his heart in the right place and doesn't want melodrama but has all these quirky relationships in his life...it takes a certain kind of street-wise charm to pull that off that I don't think most actors have either.

Re: MR...I concur...he is made for far more intense and complex roles...as I said in my previous post, he just has too much PRESENCE to ever manage to play a boy next door...he would probably add his own layers even to a simple character😆...plus NBT is an ensemble piece in many ways too...the goofy kind of physical humor happening around is again something I don't see MR fitting into.

Oh no, I definitely did not want to take away from Kunal and his excellence in this role. What I meant was k there are a 100 actors that could be casted in that role (ab whether they actually portray it convincingly is another matter entirely 😆) but MR k liye ye role waise hi thiek nahi lagta. But I do agree with you about Kunal bringing such a natural charisma to Mohan's role. He's such a bindaas, goofy, street-smart-yet-dil-ka-acha, apna-yaar type character and he convinces you k he is that! And that's phenomenal to me. Warna like you said, all the wannabe boy-next-door characters just end up turning into de-glamorized "studs" who eventually just turn all out into the HAWT-character instead of the simple natural one. And I'm not saying Mohan isn't good looking, but just that his appeal comes as much from his looks as it does from his personality.. And THAT is really attractive to me.

Kunal is to Mohan what MR is to Dutta.. At least for me. Both these actors LOOKED and RADIATED the part in terms of their appearance and their personality. And that just really attracts me to a character, each time! 😍

I feel that for any character to be successful, it has to be at the first place very clearly defined in depth and has to be consistent in that..which sadly we don't see on TV today.. no character stands out in that respect..everything in a show is so loosely woven that they don't even reach out to us..they are all just a time pass.. but LTL and Dutta was an exception.. and that makes it so difficult to imagine Mishal in any other role..
ASR character lacks the depth..and as Anu mentioned it is a very superficial character..and the rest of the shows on TV today..less said the better..that leaves with no option..But I have been watching NBT.. and it is refreshing in many ways..Mohan's character is real and believable..but somehow I can't imagine Mishal doing that role..

I'm watching NBT right now and while I'm a huge fan of MR, I don't think he'd suit this role...he's too larger than life for this role...Mohan's role is of a happy go lucky carefree journalist...a goofball in many ways...I somehow can't picture MR playing that kind of a role...maybe Dutta is still too much of a solidified image in my head when it comes to him.

The bold bit: Thats exactly why I chose Mohan. Because Mishal hasnt done something like that and we just cant imagine him doing a role like that. So it would interesting to see him carry off a normal goofy boy next door sort of a role. In my mind Ive typecast Mishal-anytime I hear of an action movie or a movie with larger than life young male character I think of Mishal.
The show itself doesnt seem the usual kind like IPKKND/EHMMBH where the shows banks on a hawt brooding hero and his chemistry with a pretty leading lady. It seems to have depths and layers.

@bold: Ditto...to me personally all of Mohan's charm/appeal comes from his personality only...that is the attractive quality for me as well...He is definitely not good looking in the conventional "hunk" sense you'd expect on TV...In MR's case we had a rare combination of a good looking hunky sorta guy with immense acting talent.

Do you think MR could do a COMIC role? I have my doubts😆

@bold: Very well put👏👏👏

Roopa, you're watching NBT? Why don't you join in the discussions in the forum then? :-)

As for ASR...are ppl in here SERIOUSLY wanting MR to do a role that consists of 15 minute long lame eyelocks, trip/catches, dupatta sequences and EVERY lame cliche that you can possibly imagine?

I would be very apprehensive given that ksh ki tarhan even I've typecast MR in my mind for a certain type of roles. But I trust his acting prowess enough to give it a very apprehensive chance. Kya pata kar bhi ley.. 😆😆 Plus I'd like to think k if he picked a comedy role, it's more "dry, sarcastic humor" than the "slapstick humor" which these days is being confused with "inappropriate innuendos". Slapstick toh I don't think MR can do.. 😕😆

Yes, the character does have layers and I'd rather NBT never become IPKND/EHM kind of crap *touchwood*

But again as we've been discussing...some ppl just have too much PRESENCE to do simple characters...we've seen MR offscreen also...yes he's not as intense as the characters he's portrayed but at the same time I feel there are some characters that are not the right fit for him...for e.g. I can't picture MR doing a Bittoo from BBB...just won't fit...his body language is too regal for that...on and off-screen and I've never seen it otherwise.

Sometimes it does come down to roles that are apt or not apt for certain actors...and there are certain roles that I just don't see MR doing...Mohan is definitely one of them...I think it's too boyish and goofy a character for MR to play...he's outgrown a role like that...especially given the mature role he played as Dutta...even if I REALLY stretch my imagination, I don't see it working...he needs a powerful role...and even if you give him a simple one, his PERSONALITY will overpower the character...I mean the sheer PRESENCE of his personality...it leaves a mark.
