In matter of weeks, Dutta and Nakusha had become close friends. They spent all day together. She would walk in first thing in the morning with his breakfast in hand. She quickly got into the habit of seeing her favorite patient, Dutta, first before she carried on with the day. Nakusha would wake up bright and early and prepare food for herself and Dutta. Before she knew it, she spent all her free time with him. She slowly started to tell him about her life in the states, her parents demise and her drastic move to India. It felt good to talk to him, she felt at peace… a feeling she hadn't felt in a long time. After a few weeks at the hospital Dutta was given the go ahead to go home. Nakusha was happy to see Dutta standing on his own 2 feet but was also saddened by the thought of him leaving….

"So Dutta, looks like your wounds have healed properly and your leg is well on its way. I'm going to arrange for your discharge papers and you should be able to go home by tomorrow"

Dutta heart sank upon hearing her say those words and got lost in his own thoughts. He couldnt stand the idea of not seeing her everyday…first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. In the short time he had known her; she had managed to take over his whole being. He felt free with her. There were no expectations, no pressure with her. She never asked him for anything he wasn't already willing to give. He felt like his old self again, carefree and innocent. He had started to trust her more than he wanted to perhaps admit. Dutta had his share of women in his life but no one ever managed to reach his heart and soul. He had divulged details about his life.. family, business, friends but had kept one big detail out. He was Dutta Shriram Patil, king of the underworld. He worried that she would see him differently, perhaps even be scared of him once she knew the complete truth"

"Dutta! … hello… Dutta—will you please pay attention" said Nakusha. "Here is a gown, get undressed and I'll be back to give you your physical"

"Wait!!! my what… your are gonna do what?" exclaimed Dutta in utter shock.

"What do you mean what… I have to give you a physical and make sure you are okay to go home… so hop to it, get undressed, I'll be back" Nakusha said with a naughty smile.

" No way lady, there is no way you are seeing me undressed… I hate to bust your bubble, but there is no way in hell you are giving me a fill physical"

"what?! And why not? Im your Dr.. or did you forget?" What are you ashamed off anyway… its all the same to me! Ohhh… wait a minute, I get it. Look, there is nothing to be embarrassed about. I am a trained professional, I have done this many times. And besides, its not like I haven't seen you before.." Before she could finish her sentence Dutta abruptly sat down on his hospital bed and involuntary covered himself with his bed sheets with a look of shock on his face. Nakusha decided to pull his leg a lil more, it was rather fun seeing him this way she thought. "Well how else do you think we performed the surgery and patched up all your wounds?... with your clothes on? "But.. but.. but"- mumbled Dutta. "Listen Mr Patil, I am not gonna sit here and argue with you, as your physician, I am going to give you a physical before I release you. I'll be back in 10 mins and when I return you better be in this hospital gown"- exclaimed Nakusha as she rushed out the room with a naughty smile on her face which Dutta couldn't see.

"what the hell?! Crap… I cant have this woman look at me in all my glory?! No way no how!" thought Dutta. He sat there as stubborn as ever looking at the gown Nakusha had placed on his bed. –knock knock- Mr Patil? He heard someone at the door and almost jumped. "yes come in" said Dutta. " Mr Patil, hello, I'm Dr. Dev Khanna, I'll be doing your physical at the request of Dr Rao."… Simultaneously, Nakusha popped her head into his room and winked and Dutta, flashing him a rather winning smile. Dutta threw his head back and smiled at the courage of this girl… his mere name would root fear in hearts of many, but here she was… all of 5 feet tall and pulling his leg. Oh god how he loved her. He decided right there and then he would talk to Nakusha before he left tomorrow and tell her everything about himself. A sudden fear rose in him, what if she rejected him? What if she started to fear him like everyone else? He couldn't live with that simple fact alone. He was at a crossroad.. one that would in some way change his destiny forever….

Nakusha sat in her office finally having a minute to herself. She found it rather amusing that she was so drawn to Dutta.. so much so that she couldn't go a day with talking to him. She wondered what she was going to do once he left. It wasn't like her to attach herself to any her patients in this manner. A chill came over her as she realized that she may actually have feelings for Dutta. There was no other way to explain how she felt. Clutching her fists she took a deep breath and closed her eyes and all she saw was him-standing with his slight smile, hands folded across his chest and that sparkle in his eyes that he always seemed to have when she was around him. How could she let this happen! She was not allowed to feel this way. Hearing a silent knock at the door, she jerked her eyes open only to see him standing tall and mighty in front of her. She stared at him like she always did when he wasn't paying attention… with a lazy smile on her face.. "errmmm hello, can I come in"- questioned Dutta".. "of course!, why are you asking, come in already"- said Nakusha catching herself.. "have a seat… how did your physical go (wink)… you hungry?" asked Nakusha. " are you okay?" Dutta asked observing her strange behavior. "yea yea.. sorry, its been a long day.. just have a slight headache, no big deal."

Dutta could hear his heart pounding through his chest and wondered if she was able to hear it too. With a loss for words, he sat down across from her.

"So I've been given the okay to go home …before I take off, I wanted to talk to you… but not here, outside of the hospital and not as your patient" said Dutta in one breath.

Nakusha was caught off guard with his direct approach, she wondered what exactly what he wanted to talk to her about… outside the hospital. She agreed to a meeting the next day after his release. She suggested meeting in the morning at her place, this way he could have one last cup of tea with her before he left, plus she knew he didn't like eating out so her place was the only safe option .This was also her chance to say good bye to her new found friend, god knows when she'd ever see him again.

They bid each other a good night and went about their way; both wondering what tomorrow had in store for them.

That night, they both lay awake thinking about their next meeting. Dutta tossed and turned in his hospital bed—what was he going to say to her? how would he explain his way of live? How was he going to tell her that he wanted her to be in his life forever… that she was the only girl for him…?

Nakusha paced back and forth in her room. She stopped in front of her closet and wondered what to wear… what was appropriate… what color… what shoes… makeup or no…:wait! what am I thinking?! I am acting like a school girl. He probably just wants to thank me for my help in his recovery that's it"-reasoned Nakusha. I really have to get a grip here.

They both finally fell asleep thinking about each other—
