may be 😊... but i was only talking abt nakusha n not mahi!

NO, that's what I meant too--Naku. The only way Naku could have changed from what she looked like earlier was if she dyed her own hair, purchased contact lenses (the only way to change eye color that I know of), and ran out of her usual soot. I should have been more clear. 😃

At first the neater appearance reflected her new founds status as an employee at PN but the removal of grit on the teeth are the CVs slow way of easing the viewers into accepting 'pretty' Naku. Or maybe its to show how Dutta sees his love.

The hair dye (Mahi's personal choice) and contacts (convenience as Sara mentioned she was having problems with the black ones). I do not think its a coincidence that her look is improving the more the love story is developing as bottom line is they want their couple to look visually appealing. Not in the blatant in you face 'glamorised' heroine way but they made her more well groomed. Now if they'd finally erase the unibrow, she'd be perfect.

You're exactly right, and that is what I meant by the "ugly truth". And it is that Naku in her older avatar was polarizing, perhaps even turned off viewers to the relationship with Dutta. They had to make the couple, as you said, VISUALLY APPEALING in order to be acceptable. It is what it is, but still a commentary on the reality of appearances, acceptability, and love. They changed Naku's looks, made them prettier, to please the viewer. So tell me someone how that is consistent with the message "Love is Blind".

I was going to go into length about the 'beauty' message in this show but its been done before on the forum.

Simply put how many of us would have been rooting for the couple from the start if underneath the 'soot' Naku was not a fair beauty. Say if they never showed that Naku was hiding her beauty but that she really was just an unkempt girl with a dusky complexion. The message would have become like 'Bidaai'/'Saat Phere' meets 'Jaasi'. The part of Naku's story which differentiates it from the others is her social background 'slumdog status'. LTL appears to be a case study of how being pretty but poor can lead to unfortunate events as your more vulnerable to exploitation. While also showing the stark contrast in treatment that society awards to pretty and non-pretty girls e.g. that scene when Naku models to earn money to bail out Babi. She is endangered in the fire along with the pretty model, everyone screams for someone to save the pretty model while they let Naku get burnt.

To conclude that according to me was the original premise. The love story of a handsome guy and 'ugly' girl has come as a by product of casting a good looking lead. Dutta was initially meant to be an unattractive Don.

another side to it can be that she no more lives in a slum..she is living with civilized people so she has to improve on her looks..this is not only the case with nakku but also with many other people who transform after coming to cities..so maybe this is how the CV's may justify it.

another thing is that Nakku loves dutta so she would want to look attractive even in that black colour...she had made herself 'UGLY' so that men dont fall for her but now she expects someone to fall for her so she will want to transform herself even though she has the soot on...

even though her look has improved, her hair always looks DRY just like the slum dwellers..but when her color will be revealed her hair quality will also improve😆...for me the unibrow is OK im used to it now ...earlier it was thick but now the unibrow is much more in shape😛

completely agree wit u naaaz. same thnoughts were going in mind wen i was raeding gp's post.
its human tendency. wen v r in presence of the person whom we love we try to present ourselves properly. aslo yes, her condtions have improved a lot now. I am surprised tat CVs have taken so small thngs in to consideration too

Thats true. I guess originally what they had in mind is the pretty girl covered with soot falls for an unattractive don and he for her. So in terms of looks they are err equals. But its later when they get together they realize he has actually landed a pretty girl and his insecurities from there onwards.

Great thread ppl! loved reading different views! Yeah i think we shd credit the CV team for that...Definitely the circumstances does affect ones looks. From a slum to PN, things in terms of living have certainly improved for Nakusha and thts how its getting reflected in her looks as well.

Shes groomed herself to be more presentable in PN n i guess its going good..the transformation has been slow n gradual.....i dont know if i would have been able to digest it if they did overnight or in one shot!! tht wud be ridiculous..

Hmm...and Dutta has been portrayed as a person with low self-esteem who thinks that women despise him for his PROFESSION! Do you think if they had cast an unattractive guy in Dutta's role, another layer would have been added to his insecurities?

In my opinion, Dutta could convince himself to trust Naku after having been betrayed twice, because somewhere deep down, he feels safe with her...he feels that Naku loves him because she is not beautiful...she would have had better choices if she was! He feels that both Naku and himself are less than perfect...and thereby the perfect match! I think post-reveal, this beauty issue is going to hover between them...until their love matures to a level that enables Dutta to shed all his prejudices and insecurities and finally be the man he always wanted to be! Remember what Jagtap had said to him..."the day you find your love you'll understand the true meaning of beauty"...Dutta took it as physical beauty, but I think Jagtap didn't exactly mean that! In short, we're going to see a lot more changes in Dutta!
