The Ugly Truth? Naku's looks slowly improved..why

Here's a topic I think may get debated. It is about the <font size="2">sly transformation of Naku's looks </font> over the past 4 months or so. The transformation was subtle at times, around wedding time, and less so (Dutta hurting himself with bottle) and especially now. We are not talking about her character, personality, just her appearance.

The story of LTL is how an "ugly" girl with a pure heart wins the heart of a handsome Don.

At the beginning, I think we can honestly say Naku was not attractive looking at all. Frizzy hair, dark, dark soot cover, connect the dots unibrow, and the stained teeth. Slowly, we began seeing little improvements, teeth less stained, hair less frizzy, a slight change in skin tone. And then it became more pronounced -- reddish/brown hair, lighter eyes, lighter skin tone. These little changes, carefully made in increments, made her attractive to the point where the only thing that can be said about her is that she is dark. With beautiful features.

So why was this change necessary given the whole point of the show? Why was her appearance improved? To make it less repulsive to new viewers? To make the romance more credible? The original Naku was just too much for audiences? Note that these are not my thoughts per se, but rather some possibilities.

If it is partly a matter of the possibilities above, does that not say something right there? And what does it mean for the story, its main point or essence?

Please let me know your thoughts. It's an interesting topic, and I'd love to get your perspective on it. 😃

Yes...I agree. If you look at the initial espisodes and compare them to the latest ones Naku looks queit attractive. Actually now the dark skin hardly hits the eyes in the sense that her pretty features esp her eyes stand out. Not to mention her smile. Plus Naku also has thick, long hair...another feature considered attractive world over esp India. Only thing that stands out as not so attractive is the unibrow which can be easily rectified by a beautician for 15-20 rupees.
I think one problem is that in the starting epis Naku looked filthy with the stuff on her teeth and uncombed hair. Being dark is acceptable but being filthy is not. But logically looking at it I am guessing that once Naku's family moved to Dutta's house they were looked after well. Even Babi were wearing better saris. Hence the improvement in Naku too in terms of clothes and hair. Plus Naku didnt want to show her real color to Dutta. But the least Naku could do is not appear filthy to the man she loves.
And yes it makes the romance believable now with a dark Naku rather than a filthy Naku.

I agree.. not to forget that she is Dutta's Wife , if she still carries her filthy getup.. uncombed hair it would look a bit Over the top and hard to digest ... as for unibrow, well they have to take some liberty with that otherwise it will contradict this matter further on a bigger scale then this.

it can be to make to make things credible OR to attract the viewers..

another side to it can be that she no more lives in a slum..she is living with civilized people so she has to improve on her looks..this is not only the case with nakku but also with many other people who transform after coming to cities..so maybe this is how the CV's may justify it.

another thing is that Nakku loves dutta so she would want to look attractive even in that black colour...she had made herself 'UGLY' so that men dont fall for her but now she expects someone to fall for her so she will want to transform herself even though she has the soot on...

even though her look has improved, her hair always looks DRY just like the slum dwellers..but when her color will be revealed her hair quality will also improve😆...for me the unibrow is OK im used to it now ...earlier it was thick but now the unibrow is much more in shape😛

The curly hair look nice to her when she was fair. In dream seen she look fabulous with her curly hair

You are right, I never thought of it from that perspective: dirty/filthy. That could very explain what we saw up to the wedding. And it does make sense.
The transformation thereafter--reddish hair, light eyes, lighter tone--I think there is something to that though. Nothing could explain it, except the CVs needing to show her in a more attractive/acceptable avatar.

I think her dark make up and appearance has been made more subtle to mark her life in that way...her appearance has been shown in accordance to the place and conditions (living, mental, physical) thriving there....she is more relaxed and calm here at Dutta's place and she is finally in love...thats why her appearance has been made more subtle to suit the complexities of her life which is less complex as before and more peaceful....

As her heart grows fonder and her life gets beautiful with the essence of love and respect, her appearance would also get better and better...

after all happiness does show on ur face and makes it beautiful, doesnt it?

Yes, that is true in part, but it seemed to me that it wasn't love that made her beautiful, but a bottle of hair dye, contact lenses, and lower quality soot. And, love, no matter how great it is, cannot make you fairer. Fair & Lovely and others would go out of business... 😆
