'Maa kasam khao nahi paltoge': Yuzi Chahal’s deleted story on independent wives’ alimony rights goes viral

Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal once again became the centre of social media attention after sharing, and quickly deleting, a story on Instagram that many believe was aimed at his ex-wife Dhanashree Verma.

The now-vanished post featured a screenshot of a recent Delhi High Court verdict that stated financially independent women cannot demand alimony from their husbands. Chahal captioned it with, “Maa kasam khao nahi paltoge iss decision seh,” which loosely translates to “Swear on your mother, you won’t go back on this decision.”

Though the story disappeared soon after, fans were quick to capture screenshots and circulate them across social media platforms, fueling speculation that the leg-spinner was making a pointed reference to his own alimony discussions. Reports had earlier claimed that the ex-couple agreed on an alimony of Rs 4 crore.

Adding to the chatter, Chahal recently appeared in a light-hearted Instagram reel with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and influencer Sophie Shine. In the clip, Dhawan playfully tells Chahal, “Teri bhi shaadi karva denge beta,” leaving him visibly embarrassed. Viewers instantly linked the banter to his personal life, turning the moment into a trending reel.

Amid the social media noise, his sister Kenaa shared a heartfelt note for Chahal, praising his calm and respectful nature. She wrote, “You’re also the man who truly respects women, the one who addresses every woman as ‘ma’am,’ who protects the dignity of every soul around him, and who chooses silence when the world turns mean.”

Kenaa further expressed gratitude for his guidance, adding, “People who know your heart and character feel that protective energy. Thank you for every lesson and every laugh. Even when I falter, you bring me back on track.”

Chahal and Dhanashree Verma met during online dance classes in the Covid lockdown and tied the knot soon after. The couple filed for a mutual divorce in February this year, which was finalised in March. Dhanashree Verma later clarified that their separation was amicable and there were no disagreements or disputes over alimony, but Chahal’s recent post has once again put their past in public conversation.
