PRATHAM MITTALA.KA.KARAN VIRANI A.K.A THE REAL HITEN TEJWANI needs no introduction.,he is Ekta Kapoor and the television industry's blueeyed boy.And well,he is also among the rare breed of actors who have managed to stay controversy-free throughout their careers.Generally speaking,when an actor ceases to be a subject of controversy,he or she ceases to be a subject of interest.But Hiten has proven this completely wrong by being the only star in Indian television who does not need any unnecessary hullabaloo to gain fame and recognition.He has ruled the prime-time slots since long but recently he has been in the news for replacing the original'Anurag Basu' and becoming the yongest actor to play a 70 years old character on screen in Kasauti Zindagi Kay.

Still, he prefers maintaining a low profile and he's quite modest about the stance.'Things happen sometimes that aren't written about,but I am very much there and working.There has been no deliberate attempt of this sort from my side to keep a low profile," he insists.

Most of the televsisions stars are now trying to do something different.Some are going through an image change.,others have tried their hand at movies.Why hasn't he attempted any different?Hiten argues,"But I have done movies too.I did Jogger's Park,Krishna Cottage,Anwar.I would love to something completely different and I would most definitely take it up if comes my way,but we are in such an industry that u cant just wait for roles to come.We can't sit at home and do nothing.So till the time I get the roles that I want to do.,I will continue doing what I am."

The replacement theory of on Indian Television is a common phenomenon.But just because you're part of a successful show,it doesn't necessarily mean that you're content as an actor.Hiten was added to the Kasauti….. team only recently and not at all his fans are happy but the fact that he's playing a senior in the serial.As Hiten says,"I Have just started playing Anurag Basu in Kasauti…. I replaced somebody but the best part about it is that I have full creative freedom to play the character my way.I don't have to do it like how it was done earlier.Moreover the audience has even accepted the character so I feel that I have done justice to it.Plus the scenes they write are interesting enough.So I am happy and creatively content.

We have heard that Hiten also,at times,recommends changes in the script and considering his star status,the director has to oblige.With a bit of hesitation,the actor admits,"Well I do voice my opinions at times.Espicially when I'm told to do scene in a particular manner but the dialogues say something different.Besides that,I do not interfere in the creative side."

Sadly,Over the last few months,Kasauti…. Is beginning to lose its steam.Isn't he concerned about what may happen if the TRP'S keep coming down?Hiten doesn't seem to be bothered with the aspect."The show has been going on for 7 years now.Any serial that's been going on for so long would have low TRP'S but the regular audience still watches it.They still wants to know what is happening with central characters like Baja,Prerna and Anurag.As far as I am concerned,I am a perfomer.I can't keep thinking for the ratings,otherwise I will drift away.I want to deliver a brilliant performance so that the scene turns out to be nice.It is because of a good scene and episode that the rating goes up.

Taking off Kasauti…. Hiten is also probably the youngest actor to play a 70-years old man.Not many actors,in the prime of their careers,would want to take such a risk.But this is one's different."As an actor,I have to do different types of roles.I feel one degrades himself by saying if he plays a70-years old,he would get only those types of roles. I think as an actor,it is a challenge to convince the audience that you are indeed 70 years old.Obiviously none of us look 70 or 80 in the serial but how you play it is what matters.I don't have problem taking up character roles and after playing Karan for so long,I felt this was different.,that's why I took it up.

A lot of actors like Manish Goel,Iqbal Khan and Ejaz Khan hhave refused to play roles that require them to look beyond their age."I believe to each his own"states Hiten."As an actor,I will do all kinds of roles and I am open to all.Most of the actors think that if they do such kind of roles they will get typecase but I don't think it is true.I don't see any harm as you're aging for the story and with the story.Touchwood,I feel I am luckyas they know the actor Hiten Tejwani,so even if I play a 70-year old character,people know my real age."

Hiten is heartthrobe.,he has blogs on the internet devoted to him and also huge female fan following.By playing an old man.isn't he risking it at all.If people find me sexy they would find me sexy even playing 70 years old.People who like me will like me anyway he justifies.

Kasauti has always been surrounded by controverseries.The only one who escaped all of it is Hiten."Actually,this is the way I have been right from the beginning. All the serials I have done have faced some sort of controversy or the other but I have always myself out of it,because I talk to everyone and keep good relations with everyone. It's not like if one keep if one prson is not nice I won't talk to him.I will be the way I am with that person too.In case,they don't want to speak with me then it's their problem.But otherwise I don't have any prejudice against anyone"

Kasauti also faced some serious setback with the shweta Tiwari marriage controversy.That affected her shooting as well.But Hiten seems rather casual about the storms he's faced."Nowadays shooting cannot be stopped because of something,as everything is very expensive and a lot of money goes waste if shoots are cancelled.Yes,once or twice it did happen that we were not shooting but then the show had to go on.The episode had to be sent.So,if Shweta wouldn't come on a particular day or would come in later, others shots were done and kept so that time and money weren't wasted."

He's known to be amongst few stars that are close to Shweta.And we've also heard that he offered her a lot of emotional support during her difficult phase.Hiten seems surprised with that one."I am not so closed to her,"he says."We are just friendly on the sets.I will not get into anyones personal life till someone comes to me and ask for help.I will only talk about work and few things here and there in general on the sets.I will not badger them with questions.That is also probably the reason that I don't get into controversies as I don't get involved at all.

One has often herad of co-stars getting attracted to each other when they're working together for long spells of time.But Hiten insists he's not part of that breed."I personally feel love happens only once and it has already happened to me.We are in such an industry where you meet thousands of people and do get attracted but things do not always fall into place like they have luckily for Gauri and me.Attraction is bound to happen as someone spending a lot of time on the sets but for me,I don't think that way at all.I share a very professional relationship with everyone and nothing more.I am very happy and satisfied in life with my wife.'

Gauri Pradhan has been an integral part of Hiten's career as well.But the show they are doing together,KSKBT isn't looking too great of late.The characters are getting stagnant., the plots becoming more repetitive and other shows are already giving it run for its money.The actor isn't living in fool's paradise and even though he defends his show, he doesn't mind admitting to its travails."There will be a point of stagnation for Kyunki… as it has been going on since 7-8 years.It's been 1500 episodes, so there has to be some repettion.I mean,how many different kinds of situations can you put in?But the creative heads keep coming up with new changes in the track to keep vigour alive."

When it ocmes to his work,except for his appearance on Nach Baliye 2,Hiten hasn't really experimented with anything.But the actor doesn't feel he's missing out."I did NB2 as it was big at that time and it was on star plus.Also Ekta herself had told me to go for it.As it would be something new so that is why I did it.The only reason I haven't experimented with much after this because I don't have the time.I am already doing two daily soaps and have given my commitement here.I wouldn't like to take up other shows, as then,these 2 shows of mine would suffer.Personally I don't give anybody,not even the spot boys on the sets, a chance to complain about shootings getting cancelled because I didn't come.

A couple of months back,Kashmera Shah confessed to showtime how everything on Big Boss was rehersed and planned.Recently,Rakhi Sawant has accused the makers of NB3 of foul play.All this has put a huge question mark on the authencity of reality shows.But Hiten doesn't quite agree."I have done NB2 and it was all real.It wasn't real we would have left it that time only.I was honestly very shocked the day we were voted out,as we would get maximum number of votes so it definitely wasn't premeditated.

At one time,Hiten was Ekta Kapoor's favourite star.But now,there are others in the race.Like Ram Kapoor,Ronit Roy and Naman Shaw.She has gone out of her way for others.But his relationship with her seems to have reached stagnation point.She really hasn't offered him anything challenging in a long time.Does he feel disappointed?I think everybody Ram,Ronit and myself-have a different place for her.I feel Ekta thinks this role will suit only me then she will not give it to anyone else and it's the same for Ronit and others.This thought has never crossed my minds that the roles she has given me have not been challenging.She has really given me good roles.,infact even the role of Anurag was very challenging.Balaji for fact has never kept sitting me at home.I have always been satisfied.
