Transcript of LIVE CHAT with TV actress, Riva Bubber at 12 noon on Monday, September 5, 2005 in Mumbai

Riva Bubber
TV actress

"I think I am too conservative to do films"

Megha > How did you feel when producers of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi said that they wanted to replace you with another actress? And how did you feel later when they took you back as ' Damini'?
Riva Bubber > It was never a replacement thing. It was mutually decided that I would not play a negative character. That's why when my character started turning positive, I was called back.

Patelheli > I like to watch Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi so much. I can't live without it. You are a very good actress. I watch it every day. I never miss any of the episodes.
Riva Bubber > Thank you very much for the compliment and hope you continue watching Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

Aniel > Who is your favorite actor?
Riva Bubber > Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan.

Rontu > Why don't you want to work in Hindi films?
Riva Bubber > Because I am very happy doing television shows, and I think I am too conservative to do films.

Kali > Hey, I thought you didn't like films. Here you have named film stars as your favorites ? Kya baat hai ... don't you like your very own TV stars?
Riva Bubber > Of course I am fond of films. I just said it's not for me (work wise) and I think television has some great actors as well, or you wouldn't be watching our shows as much as you do.

Panik > What is the secret of your beauty?
Riva Bubber > Good genes I guess...

Bhushan > You should go for Hindi films definitely.
Riva Bubber > Thank you. It's very sweet of you, but like I said it's not my cup of tea.

Kaili > When you say you are too conservative for films, do you mean you don't want to wear revealing clothes and do steamy scenes??
Riva Bubber > Yes, to an extent that's what I mean.

Pallavi > Hi Riva! When is your birthday?
Riva Bubber > 15th of July.

Bhushan > Who's your favourite costar?
Riva Bubber > This is a tough one. I am lucky to be surrounded by great co-stars in all the shows I have done.

Jili > You don't want to work in films. Is it because of the casting couch syndrome or because there is too much competition and you have the fear you may not get prominence as you do on TV?
Riva Bubber > No, it's not because of the casting couch nor is it the fear of competition because you face competition in any field of life. But like I said before, and I repeat myself, I am too conservative for films.

Karishma > What advice would you like to give to someone who is planning to join the television industry?
Riva Bubber > Be prepared for a lot of hard work. And definitely have your education to fall back on. Basically, it's all about being at the right place at the right time.

Pallavi > Are you basically from Mumbai?
Riva Bubber > Yes, I was born and brought up in Mumbai.

Mohican > How did you get the part in Kyunki Saas bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi ?
Riva Bubber > I was doing Kyun Hota Hai Par rr, which was my first show and that's how Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bhu Thi happened.

Kali > Which out of the two gives more scope for acting - films or TV and why?
Riva Bubber > I would say both because I think even on TV you get to play a lot of characters and during a long span of a couple of years, characters go through various shades of emotions on TV . In films you choose to do different ones (movies).

Karishma > Are you the only one from your family associated with the glamour world? Were your parents ever against you getting into the television industry?
Riva Bubber > No, they were never against it. Yes, I am the only one.

Kali > Did you train in acting or it comes naturally to you?
Riva Bubber > I did a theatre workshop with Satyadev Dubey while I was modelling and that has definitely helped.

Bhushan > Riva, I think you are choosy about the roles you play on TV. Are you doing any other project except what we see on TV?
Riva Bubber > No, it's just Kunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kyun Hota Hai Pyarr for now. I end up shooting the entire month. There is not much time left for anything else. Yes, I am choosy about my roles.

Dreamy > Do you always want to play positive roles? What other types of roles excite you?
Riva Bubber > I have also played a few negative shades here and there. One would be a cameo in Krishna Arjun and also in Kahiin Toh Hoga , where I played a character called 'Riya' and in the serial Kavyanjali my character was called 'Sonia' . Characters with grey shades excite me.

Bhushan > Which role of yours you like the most -' Nikkii or ; Damini' ?
Riva Bubber > I would say both. ' Nikki' being my first show and ' Damini "' because it has taught me about the whole gamut of life having gone through marriage, pregnancy and babies.

Kari > What sort of man would you like in your life? Anyone special in your life?
Riva Bubber > Not at the moment. I would like someone intelligent, someone who is witty and basically understanding.

Kim > What do you do in your free time?
Riva Bubber > I hardly get any but when I do, I like to catch up on my sleep, play with my dog and spend time with family and friends.

Karishma > Is there anything else that you do besides acting?
Riva Bubber > No.
