Karan made her sit on his bed and he kneeled down so that she could comfortably rest her head on his shoulder.
" Shirlen ke saath kuch hua? ", he asked her
She just shook her head
"Toh kya Kareena bua ne kuch kaha?, he further enquired
She again shook her head.
" Tumhari tabiyat toh theek hai?, he asked as he placed his hand her head
She nodded her head against his shoulder.
" Toh batao na Preeta kya hua hai?, he was now getting worried. He had ruled all the major worries that generally bothered her. He stepped back a little so that he could get a glimpse of her face. Her eyes had become red due to incessant crying and her cheeks were all stained.
He cupped her face gently and asked her as she met his gaze, Chalo, ab batao hua kya hai
Preeta stared into his eyes. His beautiful brown orbs those were concerned and worried for her. She herself couldn't understand what was happening, so how on earth was she to verbally explain it to him. She wasn't even sure why she was so upset. She had no clear idea why she missed him.
" Kuch nahn, she mumbled.
He gave an exasperated look and gestured to his almost drenched shirt, Yeh, kuch nahn hai. Tum hare rone ne toh Mumbai ki water shortage ki problem ko sort kar diya. Agar kuch ho jaaye toh India ki water problem solve ho jayegi
She wasn't really in a mood to rise to his bait. He saw the resigned look she gave him. Preeta normally would have pounced on this jibe and frayed him alive.
" Ok. I'm sorry. Toh tum nahn bataogi ki kya hua?, he asked her
She shook her head. Her head and heart were both in a muddled state. How was she to make sense of it ?
" Ruko. Main paani lata hun, he told her as he literally jogged his way to the kitchen.
She saw his retreating form. She couldn't fall for him. She couldn't afford to fall for a Luthra. She couldn't in her wildest dreams afford to fall for Karan Luthra. He was probably the best man she had ever met in her life. He was mature yet childish. He was stubborn yet yielding. He was impulsive yet controlled. He was annoying yet considerate. He was everything a girl ever expected in her life partner. His faade of a playboy was only just a faade. Once you scratched the surface , he was this affectionate man who would do anything to just put a smile on your face. He had this strange meandering way of boosting her morale when she found herself pushed in the corner. Karan Luthra probably himself had no clue how good a person he was.
No ! She chided herself. She wouldn't and couldn't fall for Karan Luthra anymore. She never believed in fairytale romance. She wasn't going to start believing in it right now. They belonged to two different worlds. Two very distinct and opposite worlds.
He came back with a glass in one hand and jug in another hand.
"Better? he enquired as she drank the water.
She nodded her head. She surveyed his face and realized he had a scratch on his right cheek and dark baggy eyes. She leaned forward and gently traced the scratch on his cheek.
"Yeh kaise hua?, She asked
He loved her touch. He loved how she could spot something amiss.
" Overenthusiastic fans, he told her as he leaned into her touch.
" Tumhare bodyguards kya kar rahe the, She said as she looked around the room for some ointment.
" Don't worry. Maine medicine laga li hai. He told her as he found her looking or some ointment.
" Aur yeh?, she pointed to the small abrasions that had formed on his wrist. She gave him an exasperated look. The endorsement deal was some watch company and the watch they have given him was a stainless steel watch. Karan was allergic to steel on his skin and it reacted to form these rather painful abrasions.
"Tumne bataya kyon nahn us company ko ki tumhe steel se allergy hai. Tum kitne irresponsible ho Karan., she asked him upset.
"I just wanted to crack and seal the deal. Agar main natak karta toh I could have jeopardized the deal. Humhari team mein kar koi Luthra nahn hai. This deal was really important for the team. Financially bhi aur morale boost ke liye bhi. Aur main jaldi waapas aana chahta hai, he told her. He just wanted to rush back home. Making in time for the event launch was just pretence, truth be told he wanted to argue with this Kareli who was seated right in front of him. It warmed his heart to know that she remembered about his allergy to steel.
" Apne manager ko fire kar do. Itni important detail miss kar di, she told him. He just shrugged. She got up and decided to leave.
"Kidhar?, Karan asked her as he held her hand to stop her from leaving.
"Ghar aur kahan, she told him making no efforts to free her hand from his grip.
"Chalo, main drop kar deta hun. Itni raat ko I'm not letting you go alone, he told her as he looked around for his car keys.
"Karan , don't be stupid. You need to head to the venue. You came back for the event and you will miss it agar mujhe drop karoge, she tried reasoning with him.
"Main tumhari permission nahn maang raha hun apni gaadi chalane ke liye, he informed her annoyed.
She went and stood facing him. She took the lapels of his formal jacket and straightened the look.
" Please Karan, mujhe thodi der akela rehna hai. Tum please event pe jaao. I will take a cab. I'll even message you when I reach home, she told him earnestly.
He stared at her and sought answers to the questions that remained unanswered.
" Theek hai. Ek condition pe. You will have to tell me ki hua kya. You will tell me what is bothering you post the event, he reasoned her. She had no clue how her tears bothered him. He had to get to the bottom of this.
She nodded her head and made her way out of the room .
"Kareli?, he called out
She turned around to look at him.
" Farak padta hai na?, he asked her all teasing all gone from his voice. She stared at him feeling transfixed by his penetrating gaze.
" Shayad, she muttered loud enough for him to hear and headed down to hail a cab.
A beautiful smile spread on Karan Luthra's face.
Preeta ko farak padta hai aur aaj woh pata karega ki kitna farak padta hai !
