For the last 15 years, 55-year-old Rita Khotu had the same routine at 3 pm. Be it winter or summer, Rita would turn her television on and religiously spend two hours before it, cutting vegetables for dinner.
She knows how Balika Vadhu has been married at a young age and how Kumkum was reborn after she was shot. Khotu says she has "lived, laughed and cried with them." Now, a strong dose of reality tells her that Balika Vadhu and Kumkum are not live characters.
Ritas 15-year-old habit has changed from Monday. Three days into the crisis, the housewife is fed up of watching the repeat telecast of serials over and over again.
"Its really boring. I feel irritated looking at the old episodes. I have seen them all. Im not even touching my remote. What is worse is that there is no continuity in the episodes that are being played," says Rita, who lives in Bandra.
The time that was strictly devoted to kitchen politics on the idiot box now has Rita visiting her friends.
"Watching TV was a good recreation for us. So much time used to pass away and now we are looking to do something different. Not knowing what to do, sometimes I even go to the park and sit there. I hope this phase ends soon," she adds.
Same is the case for over 60 million people who are dedicated viewers of television and for all of them ' be it a reality show or a daily soap ' the daily routine changed this Monday.
They have loved everything that the idiot box has dished out to them from melodramatic mayhem, never-ending epic family dramas, reality shows and even gripping potboilers.
Now that there is no fresh content, viewers say their life has become mundane.
"The situation is much that on one show you see a man getting married and in the other he is either single or even dead. It is hilarious and irritating. There is no continuity of shows. The channels must be handpicking tapes and playing them at random," said Priyanka Singh.
Day three of the blackout of fresh content did not bring any resolution to the crisis. The producers, workers and the channels stood firm on their ground and no one waived the white flag.
"We have to do something. We can not sit idle in the house everyday. So, we are looking to go out pubbing or watch movies which means we have to shell out more money during a period of recession. We will end up spending more at a time when we should be saving. We cant live a dull life," said Gautam Dasgupta, an avid TV viewer.
As the crisis worsens by the day with the channels TRPs also getting hit, the audiences say they too are losers in the fallout.

but thank GOD, finally I have read that the strike is over. some topic has already been opened in the forum regarding this.
