I am not sure if you will like this but just had this idea and made it into a one shot.. Inputs welcome :-)
"Hello..ACP Abhishek Mehra here.. Where? Okay I will be there"
"Hi Abhishek..
This is Mayank Gupta,a popular businessman..he was the owner of BCG leathers..he was found dead in his room,by his servant today morning..there are three bullet wounds - chest, abdomen and right leg.."
"Where is his family?"
"His wife and two kids had gone to visit his wife's parents in Pune..they are on the way here now"
"Approximate time of death?"
"Around twelve fifteen in the morning"
"You start with the usual enquiries with neighbors and relatives..Also search the place for all evidences and send finger prints to the lab "
"Okay Abhishek"
"Where is Pragya?"
"She must be on her way,I called her"
Pragya walks in right at that moment..
"Abhi ?"
"Hi Pragya",he says and briefs her on whatever his junior officer Gautham told him about the murder..
"Hmm so looking at the wounds it probably looks like this guy put up a fight and was shot in the leg first, then when he struggled to get the gun from the attacker it misfired and the bullet hit his abdomen and finally now that he was too weak to fight back ,the attacker took the final step of shooting him in the chest.."
"Yeah..so it can be anyone.. we will soon know if he has any enemies that people are aware of , Anyone who could go to the extent of killing him..I have asked Gautham to do the basic enquiry with neighbors and relatives .. We l see if anyone comes up with anything"
"Let's go to his office Abhi.. We will ask around and see if his employees can place someone as the potential killer "
Pragya is a detective and helps the police department in solving cases..most of the times her help is sought for at a much later stage but when Abhi is in charge , he gets her involved right from the beginning so that she will look for things that he might have overlooked. They have worked together on many assignments and make a very good team on the professional front and very good friends at the personal level.
They reach Mayank's office and talk to his employees about their boss. All of them are shocked to hear that he is no more and tell them about how great a boss he was. When asked if he would have had any rivals / enemies that they might be aware of ,they unanimously denied it because he was a good person who always followed the law and did the right thing.
"Gautham? Anything of help there?"
"Abhishek,one of Mayank's neighbors says she saw a man ,around six ft tall, enter the building along with him at around eleven last night..she didn't see his face as he was facing the opposite side.."
"Check with the security if there are cameras and security registers where new persons will have to sign on entry"
"Okay will call you back"
He then tells Pragya about the six ft tall probable suspect..Pragya calls Mayank's personal secretary in and asks her if any employee was on leave that day..
"Just a minute maam..I will have to check the system for employee access card entries"
Pragya nods and Abhi looks at his phone waiting for Gautham to call back.
"Yes ma'am . One Mr Raj is on leave today.. He didn't get permission earlier so I assume he is sick..he hasn't called today to inform either"
"Can I have his employee master file please ?"
"Sure ma'am"
"Pragya what are you thinking?"
"I am thinking what if some employee wants to take some revenge , for something ..anything actually..see everyone talks about how good a man he was..so it can be as petty as not willing to promote someone due to lack of eligibility or not increasing pay or anything"
Just then Gautam calls back and informs Abhi that he was successful in receiving the CCTV footage but there is no register as such..Abhi asks him to go to their office with the footage and tells him that Pragya and he will be there soon.
Pragya takes a copy of the employee master file. Abhi asks if there security cameras in the office to which the assistant nods.
They go the security room and find a footage which clears their doubts partially..the absentee employee,Raj,leaves the office with Mayank at round ten in the night..he sure was around six ft tall..the only thing that needed to be checked to confirm the suspicion was the footage that Gautam had..
They rushed to Abhi's office and what did the footage show? The very same employee walking into the apartment with Mayank!
"Abhi.. The case is almost closed in just a couple of hours !! We just have to go to his place and know the reason.. One of the easiest cases probably "
"Wait Pragya , we have to pray that guy is in his place and not on the run already"
They get the address from the employee file and go to his place ASAP. That guy was too scared to go anywhere and luckily for Abhigya he was right inside his place.. They surrounded him as asked him not to move ,showed him the footage and asked him what actually happened..
"Sir I didn't mean to do this.. Please trust me.. It all happened so fast"
Abhi tried to be patient to not scare him off .."just tell us what happened"
"Sir..Mayank sir's wife and my sister are friends ..his wife got me the job in Mayank Sir's company and I worked hard.. I am from a middle class background and what I was earning there wasn't enough.. Mayank sir trusted me with confidential information but I broke his trust .. I went behind his back and helped his opponent get a contract..I was guaranteed a commission in that.. Mayank sir got to know that somehow and he threatened to hand me over to the police.. I begged him not to but he said he wouldn't work with betrayers and because of me e faced a major setback in his business.. I went along with him till his house pleading with him to not tell anyone and that I will be loyal to him once again..all I needed was a little extra money.. He didn't agree to that and I lost my cool..." , Raj starts shivering and weeping by then..Abhi and Pragya exchange a look and Pragya asks Raj to proceed..
"I had a gun with me and rage blinded me and all sane thought left me at that moment and I shot him , the bullet hit his leg.. He started yelling in pain and I was too shocked myself.. He was constantly shouting and I had to do something to not get caught.. So I went closer to him to close his mouth and when he tried to take the gun away from me,it misfired and another bullet hit his abdomen.."
Abhi gives Pragya a 'your theory was perfect' look and focusses his attention back in Raj..
"He was in too much pain and was losing a lot of blood..I was ashamed of myself ..that man had given me a job and I betrayed him .. I didn't mean to but greed overtook my mind .. I was sure he will not make it if I take him to the hospital..his abdomen has taken a severe hit and he was losing consciousness..I had to end his pain and after profusely apologizing to him I shot him in the chest "
Abhi and Pragya didn't know what to get out of this confession .. This was totally unintentional but why at all have a gun in the first place ? He already knows he is at fault but they can't forgive him because he was good enough to lessen his boss's pain by killing him. Law had to be respected and they had to put him behind bars.
Abhi asked his junior to handcuff him and take him to the cell after filing a FIR.
One more case successfully solved!
"What all people do for a little extra money!" Pragya says all frustrated at how easily money becomes the reason for someone losing their life-intentional or not.
The duo continue working on many more assignments together.
One evening Pragya returns home ,to a partially angry Sarla.
"Ma what's wrong ?"
"You really don't know what is?"
"Don't tell me you re talking about my marriage at nine in the night "
"Pragya , I have been talking about this for long..you keep coming up with some reason or the other whenever this topic arises..you are going to be 27 in two months !"
"Okay okay ma .. But I can't marry some random engineer or a businessman .. I want some own who will understand my field of work..I will work late if it takes time to close cases and I might have to travel a lot"
"Okay then why don't you find someone for yourself ,someone who will understand you..instead of putting all these conditions when I ask you?"
"You serious?"
"Yes I am . Your dad will be okay with it too ..I can only hope the guy is from our country"
"Ma from when did you become so cool?"
"I am fine with anyone good enough for you , as long as you agree to get married "
"Okay listen then I have a plan" she says and tells Sarla her idea
"Hmm sounds good to me..you think this will work?"
"Only one way to know mother !"
The next evening when Abhi is all set to go home,Pragya reaches his office and knocks his cabin door
"Come in"
"Hey Abhi"
"Pragya! We were supposed to work on something today ? Sorry I was just leaving .. Tell me"
"No Abhi not work.. I had to talk to you about something"
"Oh? Sure go on"
"You are not married right?"
Abhi gives her a puzzled look and says "No I guess not"
"Engaged ?"
"No"
"Seeing someone?"
"No . Pragya what's this ?"
"Pacca no for all the above?"
"Pragya!"
"Abhi just answer na"
"Yes Pragya pacca no"
Pragya then takes out a box from her bag.. gets up and goes on one knee in front of him.. "Abhi will you be my husband ?"
Abhi is shell shocked ! What is with this girl ? She is proposing to him on one knee.. She is his very close friend probably the best no doubt but this was unexpected !
"Pragya?"
"Abhi my knee hurts ,yes or no ?"
"What's going on Pragya .. Explain and then propose please?"
Pragya tells him about how his mother agreed to the prospect of her finding someone she was okay with to spend the rest of her life with.. She needed someone who would understand her and her job, who would be able to appreciate her for that..
"When she told that my mind came up with your name Abhi .. We both know we have awesome wavelength and we are good be it work or in the personal front .. I can be a very good friend Abhi and hopefully a good life partner , which I am not sure about cos I don't have experience with that but I promise to try my best .. You will also get married someday anyway so why not now and me ? Doesn't it sound like a good plan ?"
Abhi thinks about this abrupt yet sensible plan that Pragya has come up with.. It sure will be advantageous to both of them and yeah his family has started showing him pictures to girls too..Pragya was smart, beautiful, down to earth and most importantly like she mentioned,they are from the same field.. What best than being partners in (solving) crime and in real life ?
" I am in Prags! I will have to talk to my parents yes but this is a brilliant plan! You sure have brains and the way you proposed will go down in history ", he says chuckling at her adorable proposal 😆
"So you will marry me ? I can tell my parents ?"
"Yes baba I will marry you !" He says with a wide grin and Pragya puts the ring on his finger,perfect fit.
"Yay we are partially engaged! I don't have a ring yet but that's okay you get me one later,this was unexpected I know"
"Thanks for being so considerate Pragya", he says and hugs his friend turned fianc in a matter of ten mins , and is excited thinking of how life with this unpredictable and brainy woman was going to be ! 😃
