Hi All! So this is an extremely long Prologue to begin with. Since my story starts 4 years later, I thought I needed to put some perspectives in place before beginning. 😉😉
Well its not really a prologue, it is a massive one shot post which chapter 1 will begin. 😳😳
Please let me know if you liked it! Your opinions mean the world to me! On that note, Happy Reading! 😊😊
________________________________________________

"Suddenly I landed.
The wind knocked out of me.
Heavy gasps.
Breathing in slowly.
Fingers checking.
Nothing broken.
Eyes closing.
You smiling.
Me realizing.
How hard I have fallen.
In love."

Prologue: An Epiphany

"Daadi have you taken all the tablets? Even the one for BP you keep forgetting?"

"Yes my child, I have taken them all. Don't worry about me, I am with Indu here. You go spend some time with Abhi now. I will see you for dinner."

Pragya smiles at her daadi's and shut the door behind her and is about to walk away when she overhears their conversation.

"Didi, it's been so long now. Our Abhi and Pragya have overcome all their misunderstandings and are always looking out for each other. I feel so happy seeing them. But I wonder when are they going to give us the good news? It's been so long that I haven't fondled a little one."

"Arre Indu, you just said, what I have been pondering about for some time now. Now Raj's children have grown up, they have their own studies and friends. They hardly ever come to visit us. How I would love to hear the cries of my Ahi's little one in the house now. With my great grandchild for company, I will become a healthy horse again!" smiled daadi, at the mere idea of the baby's presence.

Pragya smiled, and left for her room. The sound of her and Abhi's child playing in the Mehra Mansion with daadi, daasi and keeping them company, made her heart grow warm. Indeed, they were right. There was no misunderstanding between her and Abhi now. He treats her nicely, and never gloats and talks about the day she will leave the house. She hardly ever sees him talking about or meeting Tanu. Maybe he doesn't want her to leave anymore? And if that is true and they are finally on the right track, then why does he never tell her that? Why are they still living life like the two banks of a river. Always together, always taking care of lives around them, but never really together in the right sense.

Pragya went to the kitchen to make Abhi's cinnamon coffee and ruminated about the state of their relationship, when it struck her suddenly. This was Abhi she was talking about. Apart from being daadi's loving grandson and Aaliyah's caring brother and her sweet, adorable companion (well now at least!), he was still predominantly ABHI - The only Rock-Star of the entire nation. He carried along with him an ego that was roughly the size of an obese African elephant! However sweet and cute he may behave, a little bit of the rockstar always ebbs in him thought Pragya lovingly. He would never own up before her - his "char aankho wali biwi/chashmish/fuggy" - that he wants her to stay, that he wants their relationship to work. At most, he would drop hints - isn't he already doing that? Didn't he challenge her to propose to him, didn't he say she was romantic indeed and lucky would be the guy who she actually proposes to? Well, was he hinting her to make him lucky? Pragya blushed at the thought. She realized the time has come, to take their relation to the next level - to truly be man and wife. She was going to tell Abhi about her feelings. And she would make it his most memorable night.

***

"Oyi fuggy! Why can't you tell me where we are going? And why did you take so long to dress up? And why are you wearing a saree? Don't you wear sarees only on special occasions? Oh! I got it now, so today is special? Hmmm...but how do you know that today is special? I haven't told you anything yet! You can't know unless you have cheated! You cheater!" finished Abhi with a fake angry pout.

"Cheating? Abhi what are you saying? Yes, today is special for me , but I didn't know its special for you too. I..."

"Hmph. Don't act over smart chashmish! When did I say it's a special day for me! It's a special day for you! And you weren't supposed to know and plan for your own surprise!"

"Exactly! It's a special day for me, how can I not know about it, when I planned it myself? Abhi you naah."

"Cheater Fuggy Hmph." And then he walked out of the room, before she could speak.

Pragya just stood there astonished. Trust Abhi to confuse the life out of her. She turned around to see an amused Aaliyah standing at her door. She shared her confused look with her. To which she smiled and walked in. Ever since her "wrist slitting incident" Aaliyah had turned a new leaf. True she was still best friends with Tanu and still wished that her bhai and Tanu's relationship worked out. But she put in no effort to jeopardise Pragya and Abhi's relationship. She wanted Abhi to take this call. If her bhai chose Pragya she was happy with that. In fact she had not only stopped making life difficult for her, in fact she even started befriending her to a subtle extent - which is why when she smiled and walked in today, Pragya wasn't surprised.

"Bhabi don't be so confused, I will tell you what just happened. Bhai has to tell you something very important and hence he wanted to make this day special for you. I helped him plan his surprise also, but when he came home, it turned out that even you have planned a surprise for him, because today is already a special day for you somehow. But he thought maybe you already found out what he has to say, and so he thought his surprise is spoilt. So he was so upset."

"Oh! That's why I was wondering Aaliyah that suddenly why was he so angry. It's okay, I am sure his surprise plan would be better than mine anyway, so we will go wherever you both planned for us. I will cancel my arrangements"

"By the way Bhabi, what is special about today otherwise? Why were you planning a surprise?"

Pragya blushed a little, before replying, "Let us comeback, then I will tell you Aaliyah" and then she hurried out of her room, leaving a stunned Aaliyah behind, whispering sadly, "Oh No Bhabi!"

***

"Not bad fuggy, you now want to go for my surprise over yours! In this eight months you have become smart! I mean, last time we went by your choice, you found yourself a lecher at your favourite restaurant, remember? God knows, what I was about to combat tonight!" he chuckled.

Pragya laughed at that. Abhi will never learn modesty! But wasn't that a part of him she learnt to adore over time, too? Well it didn't matter whether they were going to his choice of destination or hers' - wherever they went, tonight she is the one who will make his night special and not the other way round. But what important thing did he need to tell her, for which he planned a surprise for her? Oh God! Did he plan the evening for the same reason she did? Is he actually going to set aside his Rockstar ego for a while and tell her how he feels for her? If that is what she has signed up for tonight, then she will be more than glad to let him steal the crowning glory of surprising her tonight! She would wait for another day - not every day does a rockstar behave humble afterall! No wonder Aaliyah was so stunned!

When the car stopped, she was surprised to be standing outside the "Sanjay Gandhi National Park". Why exactly had Abhi chosen the forests to tell her about his feelings, was beyond her - this was Abhi's uniqueness redefined! But they didn't stop there. From there, they got onto a ranger driven forest jeep and drove into the forest. Pragya's heart beat stopped! Maybe Aaliya had not changed at all - maybe this was her plan to get Pragya killed! Oh God! Someone should have taught this arrogant rockstar the difference between romance and murder!

"Abhi are you mad? Why on earth are we driving through a wild forest in the evening? This isn't even legal! How much did you bribe this man?"

"Relax fuggy! Why fear when Abhi - the man is there?" chuckled Abhi.

"Abhi! There are tigers here!! Who knows if a few of them are man-eater? What if they kill us? Abhi let's go back! Let's go for my surprise, its so much less risky!"

"Arre relax fuggy! Even if a tiger or for that matter a lion decides to consider you worthy enough to put into their mouth, they will only do so after devouring on me. And when you see them eating me, you will die of shock anyway. So it will be painless!"

"And why do you think they will eat you before? Been interning with National Geography have you?"

"No. I just assumed these animals have common sense! Why use a toothpick before eating food?" laughed Abhi uncontrollably! And to Pragya's utter dismay, even the driver joined him!

"ABHI!!"

The car then stopped. Pragya noticed they had reached a clearing in the forest, a huge clearing. She got out of the car after Abhi to see an exquisite array of caves before her. In the dark night, the gigantic caves would look intimidating, but it didn't look that way tonight - The main cave was lit with a thousand candles which made it look like the cave was glowing from inside. It was beyond her dreams and indeed she felt she has reached some fantasy land. She felt Abhi's hand gently holding her shoulder as he softly murmured into her ears, "Welcome to Kanheri Caves chashmish".

***

When Abhi held her hand and took her inside the cave, it was her turn to gasp in amazement one more time. Not only was it lit with beautiful scented candles, but he had also arranged for dining inside the cave. One single table and two chairs stood there in solidarity and Robin to take care of their food for the night!

Pragya was rendered speechless at the arrangement. She looked at Abhi slowly with tear filled eyes and tried to say "Thank You" but nothing came out. Abhi on the other hand was his usual self - joking and making fun of her and eating away to glory. After the food, Robin moved out of the cave and waited for them in the car parked a little further down.

"Oyi fuggy! Do you want to dance with me?"

"Dance? Have you arranged for music too?"

"Uff fuggy! You are married to a walking talking orchestra and you're worried about music? I will sing and dance with you at the same time!"

Soon they were clumsily dancing to Abhi's melodious tune of "Baatein kuch ankahein si, kuch unsuni si hone lagi...kaboo dil per raha na, hasti humari khone lagi.."

After the dance they sat on the entrance of the cave. She requested for songs like a fan girl and he sang them! The rawness of the forest around seemed to set them free of all possible inhibitions that were put around them in their house - not that anyone stopped them from singing or dancing at home, but it was like the walls between their hearts had fully dropped. They were chatting about random things - childhood, school, college, work, friends, family, crushes, sibling stories, hardships. One story led to the other and neither found a lack of interest in the others story. That night in the caves was magical by all rights, and they never realized how time flew.

"I don't want this night to ever end chashmish, I want to be here, in this spell forever" whispered Abhi, after staring quietly at the forest horizon for a while.

Pragya turned to look at him. He had done enough to show her his feelings and she has felt so very special. Now he was working up for the last bit, it was the toughest for him, his ego. No, he needn't do it - she didn't need him to work so hard, hadn't she loved him for who he was? Then why change him? His ego is as much a part of him. Pragya decided to confess her feelings first for Abhi.

"Abhi, I want to tell you something..."

"Hold on chashmish, I think, it's time for my surprise now! Your thoughts have to wait for a while"

Before Pragya could respond, Abhi produced an envelope from his pocket and handed it to her. Pragya took it uncertainly and opened the envelope and found an official letter inside. She knew Abhi enough to not expect a love letter inside, but an official letter?

It was a letter from the University of Yale for Dr. Pagya Arora. It said that her application for the post of an assistant teaching professional had been accepted and hence they were making her an offer. It also said that her joining was due in two weeks' time.

Pragya looked up at Abhi, utterly confused for the second time that night. He had an excited smile on his face! "Yale and all Chashmish! Very posh!" he sniggered.

"Abhi, what is the meaning of all this? How can I go? You? Daadi? Ma? How is this going to ----"

"Relax fuggy! Breathe! I have it all covered." For once Abhi looked serious and he placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder and he continued.

"Pragya, you and I - this marriage, we know it better than anybody else that it is nothing remotely close to a marriage. We are two roommates who have finally become used to each other and are turning to become somewhat like friends at most. So no one knows better than us that, even though we have no misunderstandings between us now, we can never fix this marriage - the very base of our marriage is incorrect. This - Pragya, cannot go on forever. We both deserve better from a marriage. You deserve to have a husband who actually loves and doesn't consider you a roommate or a friend. I deserve true love too - Tanu's love."

If one knows how it feels to fall from a thousand feet high up in the air without any restraints - that is exactly what Pragya was feeling right now. But her face never showed it. She doubted this was her strength - she was too numbed from within to emote. She responded in a plain voice.

"When was the last time you met Tanu properly, spent time with her? I thought that you guys had called it off."

"I know that I haven't met her in a long time. But we didn't call it off Pragya. In fact if you paid attention, you would have noticed that ever since the MMS fiasco, I have never really met her or spent time with her properly."

"Abhi that incident happened two months back."

"Yes, and it was around that time that you pointed it out to me that how much it hurt you to see me infidel in our marriage. You asked me how I could blame you with Suresh when I have done the same thing with you all along. I don't remember what I ranted in reply, but your question dug in me deep. I suspected that maybe you had developed some feelings for me, and I was more outraged. But later, the more I thought of the MMS, I felt, my anger towards you were not only because the MMS could hurt my daadi or my image - though both were my main reasons - but there was a peripheral reason too - it was, you are my wife! How could you do this to me? - It made me realize, you have been experiencing the same feeling ever since our wedding night - and no it wasn't out of love you felt hurt - it was something else. I know not what, but I felt it too, I could relate to it. Hence I decided, as long as we are in the marriage, I will remain loyal to the relation we share. I told Tanu, all will be well between us only after our divorce. Therefore I haven't been meeting her - it is not because I have stopped loving her Pragya"

Pragya after hearing this found it hard to breathe. Her tears were threatening to come out any moment now. But by now she has finally learnt to master the art of controlling her tears. With a lot of effort she put up an almost steady voice and asked further.

"So, once the MMS was cleared two months back, why did you not divorce me? Why did you wait for two more months Abhi?"

"For you.

Pragya looked at him uncertainly, and he looked back at her and held on to her eyes. It lasted for a brief while and then he snapped out of it and looked straight ahead of him and continued.

"After knowing you're the innocent victim whose life I ruined Pragya, I couldn't put you through anything harsh anymore. I wanted to ensure that after our divorce, life would be back to normal for you. I don't want any bit of your future to suffer because of my ignorance in the past. I started applying to universities abroad for positions in teaching. I know that after the verdict of our divorce is out, the prospect of you having a normal life for at least a year is impossible. Even I won't be able to save you from the piercing questions of the press. But as a husband or a friend, however you want to see me, I couldn't let you suffer anymore. Our divorce verdict will be out a good two weeks after you and Sarla aunty leave for the States. Once everything is under control, you can take a call, whether you want to return or stay on. I owed you this much didn't I" smiled Abhi.

Pragya's throat was parch dry. She didn't feel like she could cry ever again. She had somehow dried up inside. She was an empty casket.

"Abhi, as per the offer, I leave in two weeks. There won't be enough time to file a divorce petition within two weeks."

"Don't worry Pragya, I have it ready and signed. I was only waiting for the offer letter which arrived today. Once you sign it, tomorrow first thing I will send it across, after which you are free from this farce marriage."

"And Ma and Daadi? How will we ever convince them?" Pragya asked nonchalantly.

"From tomorrow, as you start your visa paperwork, I will handle them. I will take care of it, you don't worry. They will understand. If they don't, they will hate me, never you. I am sorry for everything chashmish"

As Pragya looked at Abhi, she was surprised at her own ebbing thoughts. She was pained yes - she was losing the man she loved more than life, but who wouldn't be pained at that. What she found startling was the respect she felt for Abhi at that moment. Heartbroken yes, but who would imagine that Abhi would willingly risk his relationship with Tanu and even Daadi to fix things for her? Along with pain and respect, she felt oddly crisp and detached from everything suddenly. She loved Abhi dearly - as much as that was a fact, fact was also that - Abhi loved Tanu dearly. Fact was Abhi was trying everything in his control to keep her away from any brash repercussions of being divorced by a celebrity husband. Like a real husband, he took care of her present and future before forsaking her. What else could he do? He had almost fixed everything - how could she hate him?

"It's okay. I have already erased the past." - he smiled at this and gave her a tight side hug, "By the way, congratulations chashmish!"

"Thank-you Abhishek" replied Pragya with a smile.

Abhi was taken aback for a moment. "Abhishek"? But he knew better, so he didn't question her. She was now looking straight ahead at the forest horizon. He looked ahead too. They were silent for a while. Then he suddenly remembered.

"Chashmish, you wanted to say something, before I handed you the letter nah?"

Pragya turned to face Abhi, and he could see the calm settling in her eyes. They were strangely dry, well he didn't expect tears (who is he kidding? Of course he did! She cried for the smallest of things! Who would think, getting through Yale wouldn't make her shed tears!) but her eyes were drier than the normal, there was no moist at all, not even the usual moist. It looked like a pair of dead eyes to him. But then she opened her mouth to speak.

"Yes, I wanted to say that our night is over Abhishek, it's morning now."

Pragya then got up and slowly started walking towards the jeep. Abhi sat there staring at her retreating figure for a while, before getting up and joining her.

Res
I never unres'd!!! 😲😲 So I'm doing it now 😊

OMG!!! I loved the intensity of this first Chapter Aafrah!! Wow...Pragya wanting to tell Abhi about her love for him. Him planning the surprise and Aliyah getting along with Pragya. Realising what Pragya was about to do and not being able to stop her.

And then the setting...I loved the aloneness!!! It was amazing!! And Abhi sorting everything out for her and Pragya not telling him how she felt! Broke my heart.

(And yes I've read the whole story now so I know the end is good...but for now...I'm a sad bunny!)

Aaafrah I am slain. The pure power of that Yale reveal after the escalating pitch of Pragya's hope. Oh God. And 8 YEARS! You do know in the show timeline they'd be almost 40 by then??? I'm going to guess you're going for younger ages ;)

Loved the mention of positive but not transformed Aaliya and the bit with the delusional daadis. And argggh this Abhi and his whole attitude to Tanu my heart is burning honestly. But yet I do like the characterization - it does speak to an emotional depth I can imagine for Abhi, for all that I don't like this series of decisions of his.

Anyway I just know the next part is also going to play games with my pulse and my tear ducts. But it is a beautiful, delicious torture and I look forward to it. Thank you for sharing this fantastic start and for working on such a great story!

Two small points! Firstly I would like to thank Mina for bringing up the 8 years gap issue in her previous comment and pointing out my characters will be 40ish in that case. Hence a little alteration! The gap will be of four years instead! I dont know why the eight years thing got stuck in my head! 😆😆

And secondly, again another message for Mina! I borrowed your Raghav Chopra for a bit, in this story! I never watched the other show, but his character that you have protrayed in so many stories of your entices me. And I thought of borrowing him for a bit! I am still not sure if he is doing a guest appearance or he is a parallel hero, let's see!😳😳

All in all, there is a lot of Mina-influence in this chapter, hence I decided to dedicate this chapter to Mina! Thanks for all your kind words in all my work! Thanks for helping me Index my stories and many thanks for all the small small doubts of mine that you have cleared! 😊😊

And I hope you and all the other readers enjoy reading this chapter and leave their esteemed feedback! ⭐️⭐️

Chapter 1: Old Wine in New Bottle

Pragya was smiling softly to herself as she peeped out of the flight window. They were due to land in Mumbai in another twenty minutes. She was relishing the first aerial sight of Mumbai after four long years now. She was never really a patriot from her heart, but homecoming after four long years did make her feel a little nationalistic. Her Mumbai, which was once upon a time her home. Now of course home is Stanford - and she had no wishes of leaving her home to come to India ever since she left. There in the States, away from home, away from close ones, away from bitter memories and heart breaks, she had built a heaven of her own. It was her own palace of illusions - where she believed she had no pain and regret to life. True she had moved on. She didn't remember Abhi any longer. It was difficult in the initial months, but with no qualms in her heart, she found it easier to let go of him. Once in a while she would surf the TV channels and come across his concerts, then she would pause for a few minutes to listen with a smile of familiarity, but she never really understood his kind of music, so she would change the channel after a bit and go on - never sparing one moment thinking about anything beyond his rockstar image. True he still did have an impact on her, but that was restricted to only stopping her from ever coming back to India. She knew if she returned, daadi would want to meet her, who knows even Abhi may want to catch up, but she had put her past so far behind, that she was too reluctant to go back there to even check if they still mattered to her - in no other ways did Abhishek Prem Mehra matter to Pragya Arora anymore.

Her mother never went with her to the States, as was their initial plan. She had understood everything when Abhi had broken it down to her. There was that regular cycle of anger, denial, acceptance and moving on. But she had made it clear that she wasn't going to leave Pragya's daadi behind to go with her. So they stayed back as Pragya went away. Of course they would come to visit her every once a year - but she never came to visit them. Bulbul and Purab would initially request her, then plead with her and finally even tricked her, but she never gave in, until the last time Purab called. After the usual conversation with Bulbul and her mother and daadi (her mother and daadi were staying at Bulbul's because Purab and Bulbul were expecting their first child, and she was in her final month), Purab had taken the phone.

"Di, I just want to tell you, this will be Bulbul and my last attempt to convince you to visit Mumbai once. If you don't come even this time, we will never ask you to. We will understand, there are boundaries which you can cross for no one. Di, Bulbul will go into labour in another three weeks. After delivery with such a small baby she can't travel for at least two-three years. If you would rather see your niece or nephew in person for the first time only after he/she is that old then it's fine. But di, I know even though Bulbul will say she understands, she will still want you to be around her when she sees her baby for the first time. She will want the baby's maasi to be there for the baby right from birth, she will want to share the joys of motherhood with her sister too. Di, please don't let your past dampen Bulbul's joy on such a special phase if possible"

Pragya let go of a silent tear of both joy and pain. She could shun herself from all, but a baby who isn't even born yet? Her baby sister's little baby? How could she say no this time? She let out a deep breath and replied.

"Purab, tell Golu that maasi is coming"

"Di, really? That is such a great news! But who is Golu?"

"Arre the baby's nickname! It's the maasi or the bua's right! And in both cases, it me! So Golu!"

Purab had chuckled and then hung up quickly to inform the family of their new added cause of joy.

And now Bulbul was due in two days and she had finally landed in Mumbai. Just in time to catch up with her Golu.

***

Sarla was sitting with Bulbul in their drawing cum dining room couch and chopping vegetables, her Pragya was going to be home after four years this late afternoon. She was making all her favourite dishes. Daadi was sitting in the chair by the dining table and reading the mornings newspaper. Purab was sitting in the chair next to her and having breakfast. He was in a hurry, he had to leave for the airport in sometime to pickup Pragya di. There was an air of general excitement in the room. Sarla was thinking about something for a few days now, she thought of brining it before Bulbul now.

"Beta this time ask your sister what her future plans are, okay? Every time I ask her, she gives me philosophy lectures like, she likes living in the present, if the present is good it conceives a good future and all that. I know she dodges my questions, but I am sure she will give you good answers"

"And when she dodges your questions Ma, then why do you think she will give me correct answers?"

"Dare she dodge questions and irritate a woman running in pregnancy hormones? Even if she tries, I will tip her with a few personal experiences! She will get the point" chuckled Purab from the table, earning a glare from Bulbul. Sarla and daadi hid their faces to laugh.

"But seriously betaji, I know Pragya is completely over with Abhi and her past. I know she and that other professor, Raghav Chopra - they like each other. All I say is, if they like each other for over two years now, why aren't they making the move? Betaji, when you could convince her to come to India, I know only you can convince my stubborn daughter to start up life afresh with Raghav. I just want her to settle down too betaji. It's been so long" sighed Sarla.

"Auntyji, I understand. I think after what happened last time, Pragya di is just cautious. I will try talking to her, I promise. But in the meanwhile I request you all to remember that under no circumstances will anyone even utter Abhi's name in di's presence. I know it's easier to dodge the topic when we talk for some time with her on the phone, and with her being around in the house it's difficult - but if she can do as much as come down to Mumbai to meet us - we can do this for her too"

They all silently agreed. "Abhi" was a tabooed word in the Khanna household for the one month Pragya would be around. For Purab it would be most difficult because Abhi was still his best friend and he met him on a regular basis. Aakash had been managing Abhi's affairs for years now. But Purab still managed his finance. He had once thought of telling Abhi about staying away from his family for the month because Pragya was coming - but he knew Abhi, what if he decided to come and meet her or something? He knew he couldn't keep the news under the warp for too long, but he decided to not spill the beans so early - he would handle Abhi as and when he posed trouble. For now he had to leave for the airport.

Abhi was in great terms with Bulbul too. True, Bulbul was initially shocked to know about their divorce appeal. But Pragya had broken it down to her and Purab carefully that it was a mutual decision and she had no hard feelings for him. When she didn't believe her she compared her love for Abhi with Aaliyah's love for Purab. When Purab couldn't be held responsible for loving Bulbul when Aaliyah loved him, then how could Abhi be held responsible for loving Tanu when she loved him. Bulbul had to agree. Pragya had similarly pitched for Abhi before Purvi, her daadi, even Aakash and the daasi's. When he was taking on daadi and ma for her, she wanted to ensure all his other relations remained intact and supported him - she owed him this much. As for Sarla and daadi, they were most upset, but with time they succumbed to their emotional injuries. Daadi had finally forgiven Abhi, and on seeing how she ensured and secured Pragya's future, even Sarla was cordial with him now.

Purab was well on his way to the airport when he received a call from home. An extremely worried and nervous Sarla ma had informed him that Bulbul had started to get her labour pain two days in advance. Apparently she wasn't feeling right from the morning itself, but she ignored it thinking it was morning sickness, but in due course her uneasiness increased, giving in to the pain. Purab panicked hearing that. He put Sarla's call on hold and called for an ambulance at home, and then informed Sarla that he was coming right back. He then took a U-turn and sped towards his Bulbul.

When Pragya walked out of the airport, she was expecting to see a radiantly smiling Purab at the arrivals gate. But to her dismay he wasn't there. She thought he must have been caught in traffic and waited for quarter of an hour before calling him. But even when she called and he didn't pick up, she was startled. She tried her mother's number and yet no answer! She knew everyone was at the Khanna's so there was no point in going home, and she couldn't directly go to Bulbul's house either, because they had recently shifted to this bungalow. She knew it was in Cuff Parade, but she didn't know the exact address.

She had been away for so long that, already the sticky humid incessant Mumbai weather was starting to get to her and to top that was the irritating and insistent cab and auto drivers who were piling up before her to drop her home. On that she could feel her jet lag settling in. All in all, she was a mess. Hence she decided to take a cab and check into a hotel and rest and await for a call back from her family. How conveniently all of them forgot her she mumbled to herself. She then left a message for Purab on his phone and left the airport.

A two hour and half later, when all formalities were complete and Bulbul was taken in screaming in labour, the doctor told them the delivery was to be expected in another six hours.. Sarla aunty and daadi were inside with her and he had just got the medicines and other ancillary things that were needed. It was now when things were finally in control, he relaxed a little and out of habit took out his phone from his pocket to check. He saw some seventeen missed calls from Pragya and did a face palm in irritation. How did it escape his mind, that he was supposed to pick Pragya di up some two hours back? He immediately tried calling her back but her phone was dead. He stood up out of sheer desperation. What were the chances that she was still waiting in the airport? If not, then where would he search for her now, when her phone was dead? But then he noticed the message and murmured to himself, "Four Seasons..hmm". He called up Aakash. He didn't want anyone from that family to meet her if possible during her stay here, and if at all they had to meet, he definitely didn't want them to meet her on the first day itself! But with Bulbul in labour he really had no option.

Aakash answered the phone and told him he was with Abhi for a press release. Purab quickly explained the situation and requested if he could at least arrange for something such that Pragya could be brought to City Hospital. Aakash assured him that he himself will drop "Pragya bhab"di" to the hospital. Purab just needed to tell him where she was put. - Four Seasons.

"Purab, are you sure Four Seasons?"

"Of course Aakash, but why do you ask?"

"Purab, I am currently at Four Seasons only, with bhai. The press release is taking place here" whispered Aakash

"Bhai. Pragya di. Press. Just Perfect" spat Purab in anxiety.

"Don't worry Purab, you be with Bulbul. I will arrange for something and get Pragya bhab-di out of here without the press or bhai noticing"

"Thanks Aakash, and one more thing, when you talk to her, please keep the "bhab" out of di. Bye"

Pragya had given in to jet lag and was sleeping to glory in her room when the intercom rang. She reluctantly answered it.

"Hello"

"Hello Ma'am, a certain gentleman by the name of Aakash wants to see you. Shall we send him in?"

"Sorry, I think he is making a mistake, I don't know any Aakash"

"Right Ma'am, Thank you"

"Aakash" who can this be? Pragya thought to herself. Unless, but no no how could it be that Aakash? She didn't think Purab would have told them of her arrival. This must be someone else. The phone rang again.

"Hello Ma'am, we are extremely sorry to disturb you, but this gentlemen insists on talking to you over the phone once at least. He claims he is your brother"

Pragya's doubt got confirmed. This was some other Aakash - she was his bhabi, not di. But then she stammered at her own mistake - she wasn't his bhabi anymore. Could it be? But why would he?

"Fine please pass him the phone"

"Hello Pragya bhab-sorry I mean di, this is Aakash here. Aakash? Your..your.."

"Yes, Aakash of course I remember you. How did you know I checked in here?"

"Bhab-sorry again, di, actually Purab sent me here to pick you up, actually he was on his way to pick you up, but then Bulbul started with her labour pain, and he rushed there, and in all the chaos he forgot to pick you up. I came to take you directly to the hospital"

"Oh my God Aakash, Bulbul is in labour? I am coming down right now, give me five minutes."

She should have guessed something was wrong, why did she not wonder? Staying alone in a faraway country with no close ones near had made her so indifferent to the world, that she had forgotten to worry completely. It just didn't occur to her that something could be wrong. After five minutes, a worried Pragya dashed down to the main lobby with her luggage to see Aakash standing there and gaping at her.

"Bhabi! How a- are yo-you?" he stammered. "You have changed so much!" then he came forward and hugged her.

Pragya laughed freely. "I must have changed quite a bit. Why else did you forget to rectify your mistake of calling me bhabi this time, with a - sorry I mean di!" she chuckled.

Aakash just smiled back amazed. She was still the same Pragya bhabi, yet she was so very different both in terms of clothing and personality. Pragya moved away and went near the reception to check out, it is then it struck Aakash that Abhi was in the same venue and if they go by time, the press release is almost about to sum up. He hurried to her and told her to come with him quickly. He would look into the check out details later for her. But Pragya refused that upfront. She thanked him but told him it wouldn't take long and she wanted to wrap it up herself. As Aakash waited patiently, he kept glancing around to see if Abhi was coming out from anywhere - thankfully he wasn't.

Once she was done with the payment, Pragya turned around and smiled at Aakash. She said she could go now that she was done. He sighed in relief and they were walking towards the exit finally.
"Pragya bha-opps sorry di, would you first like to drop your luggage at Purab's before heading to the hospital or -"

"I think I will first go to the hospital Aakash and yes, please call me whatever you feel comfortable with - bhabi/di/ bhab-di whatever, just tune out the profuse apologies you add in between. Of course don't call me bhabi, if your present bhabi has a problem with it" she laughed softly, and before he could respond, he heard another voice.

"Ah I was wondering what was keeping Aakash my responsible manager cum brother away from such an important press release today, but now I guess I know. Only someone as stunning as you can manage the impossible my lady" drawled Abhi's unmistakable flirtatious voice from behind and Aakash froze. Purab was going to kill him now.
