Part two.
He saw her smile in her sleep and couldn't help running his fingers over her face. She was beautiful. All his life, he had been surrounded by women. He had thought he knew what beauty was. Thought he had seen it all. But when he saw her for the first time, he realised how wrong he was. He had no idea what beauty was. He was like a man who had lived by a lake his entire life, thinking it to be beauty. But when he was confronted with the ocean, he realised what he had been missing.
He felt a surge of possessiveness go through him. This woman here, lying in his bed, was his wife. His. And it had not been easy to convince her. She had been broken. Broken in such a way that he was terrified that he would not be able to piece her back together. For some time, he had thought that she was shattered. And he was scared. Because broken he could mend. He had no idea what to do with shattered. But thankfully, she had survived. She was a fighter, his wife. His warrior princess. She had decided that she would not let some hateful people ruin her life. That she would live. And he was lucky enough that she had chosen him to share her life with.
It had not been easy. Even now, two years into their marriage, there were moments when he caught he looking sad. When the light in her eyes shone a little less and when the smile on her lips seemed a little forced. He knew that she was back there. In the past. In that horrible place where she had been insulted and degraded. Where her integrity had been questioned. Where she had been called a gold digger and a husband snatcher. It enraged him. Because as hard as he tried, there was nothing he could do to help her. She carried those memories with her, and like monsters in the night, they came back when you least expect them.
'Why are you frowning?' Asked a sleepy voice.
He looked down to see that she had woken up, her eyes questioning and a lazy smile on her soft lips. He bent down and gave her a kiss. He had meant it to be a soft good morning kiss but it soon escalated into something else. He could never have enough of her. Enough of her taste. She tasted sweet like only she could. He licked her lips with his tongue and her mouth parted on a sigh. He took this opportunity to drive his tongue inside her mouth so that he could explore the sweetness at his leisure. He knew that he could spend all his life just like this. Kissing her. His hands started their journey down from her shoulders to her breasts when suddenly they were stopped.
He looked at her in confusion . She hardly ever stopped him when they both were in this mood.
'You didn't answer my question. Why were you frowning?'
He sighed. This was not a conversation he wanted to have now, but when had he ever been able to refuse her anything?
'I was just thinking. About you.'
'And thinking about me makes you frown?' She asked with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
'Of course not. Everything about you makes me smile. I was just wondering if I make you smile too. If you are truly happy.'
She looked at him and rolled her eyes.
'Of course it does. I love you, you know. I have never been so happy in my life. After what happened five years back, I never thought that I would have this. This happiness. This companionship. I felt I was the reason for everything. The shame that my family had to go through, the media circus, everything. I had decided that love was not for me. That if I hadn't fallen in love, none of this would have happened. We would all have been leading our safe boring lives. But you proved me wrong. You showed me time and again that love is a beautiful thing. That it doesn't come easy. That sometimes, life is hard. But with the right person by your side, it doesn't seem so bad. So yes, yes I am happy. But more than that, I am blessed to have you. She told him with all her love for him shining in her eyes.
He bent his head again, to show her just how much she meant to him when the doorbell rang.
Stifling a curse and glaring at his wife for the giggles erupting from her mouth, he made his way to the door, planning to curse the person on the otherside of hell.
When he opened the door, he realised that the curses would have to wait as his mouth couldn't form any words. Standing infront of his was the man who was the sole reason of all the miseries in his life. The reason it had taken him three years to convince his wife to marry him. The reason that their love was tainted by something ugly. The reason that his in-laws still didn't want to mingle in the society. The reason for all the tears and heartbreaks.
Abhishek Mehra.
He quickly closed the door and stepped outside lest his wife see him. He was just about to ask Abhi what he was doing here when Abhi greeted him.
'Hello Purab.'
