Going by the comments here .. lets not ridicule these things. Not evry1 is as advanced as members here. My parents /uncles /aunts use phones for calling. They hardly use smses andcertainly not wats app. In fact emailing wud be a pain to them as well. Also, I myself dont use wats app.., purely by choice.Purab's letter was long ... and a text message will take forever to type and that also inhindi. He wud not have been carrying his laptop to his wedding.
. Also I disagree that ppl who use texts/whats app are "smart"

As others said its the Hindi factor. But Purab could make sure the letter reaches Abhi's hands. Keeping in Abhi's room was so dumb as Tanu/ Aaliyah would have destroyed it anyways. Even if Pragya found it may be she would hide it too. So Purab has done a dumb thing.

I was considering this earlier today. I felt a text or wassup wouldn't be sincere enough the message would be really short wham bham "yah sorry dude can't marry your sis, in love with someone else, your wife is an angel to put up with you" 😆 somehow it's not giving the same emotion as the letter did, I read the post of the whole of Purab's letter and it was a very touching letter perhaps it's meant to persuade the reader that he is doing the right thing and to forgive him (i'm assuming it's not possible in a text or wassup). I felt this morning an email would have worked too but they haven't shown Abhi being online as a regular thing so far.

HAHA! But, we haven't seen Abhi habitual of reading letters as well.😆

Ridicule? None of us did that. We were only taking jabs at Purab's choice of medium for communicating why he decided to become a runaway groom. Since weddings are considered the most 'pious' commemoration of a relationship in our Indian family setup, Purab could have done a lot more to ensure that his message reaches Abhi before Aliya and Tanu usurp any evidence of Pragya's rectitude in this Aliya-Bulbul-Purab triangle.

Also, yes, I quite agree with you that people in India still don't use phones as 'the' only medium to communicate (you mentioned folks a generation above us in familial hierarchy) but this is not my concern. I never expected Purab to send a text to Abhi's Dadi. If a letter did seem a better way of communicating his frustrations out against Aliya's plot, all that he could have done to ensure that it reaches Abhi, and no one else, is to leave a text message to Abhi saying, "left you a letter. It's in your room. I'm sorry!"

No, people who use WhatsApp are not "smart" as you presumed we tried to imply here. But yes, people who leave a letter so crucially important lying under a music system without ensuring that it reaches the hands of the person it is addressed to are definitely dullards.
We, as viewers, expect some explanation as to why our intelligence as rational thinkers is completely left out of consideration while scripting a plot. It's even more frustrating when there is such an excellent cast in the loop for a show.

Cheers!
