AbhiGya Fan Fiction : The Compromise

Pragya hummed to herself as she straightened things out in the room. After a month and a half of tension, turmoil and anguish, her mind was finally at peace.

After she returned from the marriage hall, where Purab had refused to marry Alia because he loved someone else, she called Bulbul to tell her the good news. To her surprise Bulbul was at Purab's house - he had tricked her into thinking he was sick, called her over, and confessed his love once more. Touched by how much he cared for her, and seeing reason that this sacrifice would not work out for Purab-Alia or Abhi-Pragya, Bulbul had reciprocated his love and the two were spending some romantic time together.

"Chalo. Kuch toh acha hua. I'm really happy for Bulbul and Purab. They are made for each other. But I'm glad Purab decided to wait a bit before revealing Bulbul's identity to the family - especially Abhi and Alia - the last thing we need is them going after Bulbul." Pragya thought to herself as she changed into her nightgown.

She was getting ready to take her blanket and pillow out to the balcony for the night when Abhi entered the room. The two stared at each other for a while, unsure of what to say. The events of the day had shocked them both. Before Abhi could say anything, Pragya ran into the balcony and covered herself with the blanket. Abhi smiled to himself, and headed to the washroom.

~ One Hour Later ~

"Come on Abhi. You are a rockstar dude, tu ek chashmish se kya dar raha hai? Jaa ke baat kar na!" Abhi muttered to himself. He had been pacing back and forth in his room for an hour now, he couldn't muster up the courage to talk to Pragya. But he knew they had to talk, they couldn't leave things unsaid... "I know what happens when you don't talk things out properly." He said, thinking back to the events of the day when his misunderstandings regarding Pragya were finally cleared.

She had gone up quite a few notches in his opinion, not just because she wasn't a gold-digger who stole his best friend and his sister's love, but because she had tried to be a dutiful wife, she had supported him despite how he treated her, and she had endured all his hatred and insults ... all for someone else.

Abhi's thoughts were interrupted by a loud clunk sound. He quickly turned his head to see a very timid Pragya, who had just dropped a glass on the floor.

"Woh...mujhe laga tha ke aap so gaye honge. Isi liye..." She mumbled looking down.

Abhi motioned for her to sit on the bed. She sat, hesitantly, and moved over as soon as he sat down so that she was on the edge.

"I'm not going to eat you chasmish. Waise bhi, main zyada theeki cheezen nahi khata." Abhi laughed.

"Zyada sweet cheezen bhi nahi khani chahiye. Diabetes ho gaya toh?" Pragya retorted with a pout.

"Ho gaya toh ho gaya. Who can fight with fate?" Abhi asked. Pragya shifted her gaze from Abhi to his favorite pillow, laying on the bed. Realizing what he had said, Abhi remembered what he wanted to talk to Pragya about.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He sighed.

"Would you have believed me? You were so convinced of my guilt, anything I said would have made matters worse..." Pragya said looking back at him.

"...So now what?" Abhi asked, barely in a whisper.

"You tell me. You married me for revenge...but you don't need to take revenge from me anymore...right?" Pragya said.

"No. No." Abhi said. Thoughts of Pragya's mom, her family, his family, Daadi...Tanu all ran through his mind. His heart raced as he considered the possibilities. He could divorce her and marry Tanu, but how would he explain this to Sarla Maa and Daadi? They would be shattered, and their health would suffer...If he stayed married to her, that could be worse. How would he and the chashmish tolerate each other? And what would he say to Tanu. Tired, Abhi hung his head in his hands.

Pragya stared at Abhi and her heart sunk. She had never seen him look so ... defeated. "What a mess we have gotten into. We can't live with each other, iss stupid rockstar ko main kaise jheloongi? But if we separate, the pain it will cause to Daadi and Maa...and both of them are sick, agar uneh kuch ho gaya toh? And then there was Tanu. Abhi loves her, he wants to marry her and I'm getting in the way. " She sighed as she was confronted with her thoughts.

Suddenly, Abhi reached out and held Pragya's hand in his. He looked into her eyes, seeing again that truth and pain that he always dismissed as her hypnotism.

"Look Pragya, I know I have hurt you a lot. But I really hope you can understand that while my reasons may not have been right, they were important to me. Alia ... is more a daughter than a sister to me. After my parents passed away, I brought her up myself, gave her everything she ever wanted because I couldn't see tears in her eyes...that may not have been the best thing to do because now she's pretty spoilt...but you understand that whatever I did wasn't out of hatred for you, but really out of love for her...But it was wrong. I ruined your life, tied you to a relation that offers you nothing but pain. Hum bohut hi ajeeb mod par aake khare hain, and it's all my fault. I'm truly sorry. Deeply. Madly." Abhi said to her as he squeezed her hand.

Pragya stared at him in shock, unable to find words to express her thoughts. Abhi was apologizing to her, he was sorry, truly sorry. She tried to put herself in his shoes, if she was under the impression that someone had betrayed Bulbul like that, maybe she would have hated the other girl too. She never would have done something this drastic ... but she understood his situation.

"I understand ... your pain, your guilt, everything. I admit I was very hurt by everything you did, it was pretty harsh, but ... because I know what it's like to love a sister unconditionally and want to see her happy ... I am willing to forgive and forget ... and put everything behind us." Pragya said to him.

He looked up at her and sighed. "Tum ... tum bohut acchi ho Pragya ... I don't know why I took so long to realize that."

"...Even after all this, you know that we can never lead a life together...right? We're just too different. As much as it would hurt my mother and your Daadi, it would be best for everyone if we separated." Pragya said in a small voice.

"I don't have the heart to tell Daadi right now. Maybe we could continue this charade for a while...just until her health stabilizes." He admitted to her.

"But what about Tanu?" Pragya said, feeling an unfamiliar pang in her heart as she mentioned Abhi's girlfriend's name.

"Tanu cannot marry me until her contract ends...in one year." Abhi said.

Pragya realized what he was saying. "So we continue this marriage for one year and when Tanu's contract ends, you will divorce me and marry her?"

"...Yes. And I guess throughout the course of this year, we could fight a lot and make our elders understand that we are not happy together. Then we will part ways." Abhi said.

"To me, this seems like the only solution that will hurt as less people as possible..." Abhi sighed.

"...Mujhe bhi yehi lagta hai...It's really late, we should get some sleep." She said. She rose to go into the balcony, when Abhi held her hand and pulled her back. He stood up, and looked her in the eye as he spoke.

"We may not be husband and wife, but we can be friends right chashmish? This revenge stuff is getting too old for me." He smiled warmly - the first real smile he had ever given her - as he stretched out his hand.

Shyly, Pragya took his hand in hers and shook it. "Friends?" She asked, smiling sweetly.

"Friends." He replied.

"Haan, lekin iss ka yeh matlab nahi hai ke main aapke gaane sunoongi." Pragya said to him sternly.

Abhi was offended, but seeing her fake anger, he burst out laughing. "This is going to be a lot of fun chashmish."

The two smiled at each other as they headed off to sleep, each with new hopes about the future of their relationship.
