From the few serials that I have watched or read updates on occasion, I have come to realize that
1) Its all a business for serial producers and TV channels.
2) A highly viewed show attracts advertising revenue.
3) A TV channel will commission a serial from a production house and keep the serial on air as long as revenue is generated.
4) Apparently the Indian viewers love these "proved and tested regressive story lines". Viewers actually tune in to watch the serial when such drama or storylines are shown.
5) The Indian population is very large and there is a huge population that supports the viewership of Indian serials. Some for time pass, some lovers of 'distress of others' , some just for drama , escape from mundane real life, some hopeful romantic idealists who live for insignificant romantic gestures between protagonists. Though the only real union of lead pairs occurs at the end of the serial before it goes off air and some purely for discussion sake with friends and family.
The sad part is that prolonged exposure to such serials has long term effects on the mentality of the viewers. They come to believe its real characters and some behaviours seen on TV become acceptable.
6) Serials are not used as a teaching or reaching out media. It doesn't generate enough revenue to stay on air.
If you were a business person out to make a profit and this is a formula that generates revenue, what would you do? Its all about money, money, money.
But for whatever reasons for watching, members of IF who come to this forum like to discuss and express their opinions and interact with each other. Some feel euphoria others disgust. No one if wrong and no one is right. Everyone has their niche and find their own circle of friends.
Happy watching, reading and discussing.
