I dont know why they always portray the bussiness woman as a bad person, i mean Janvi is from America and Niyati is from gav so naturally Niyati more sanskari and Niyati is made the heroine and Janvi the villain... same thing happened in Nimmo, Nimmo always did the salwar kameez thing never bussiness, but Nats was the modern bussiness woman and they showed Nats as a villian and Nimmo as a heroine...
You know it is possible to be modern and still keep up some cultural values or rather a bussinesswoman can wear a saree and be religious and traditional but is never portrayed as such!!

I totally agree, in almost all serials working or precisely career oriented women are either mean or vamp.... WHY SO??????

We can wear western outfits, chat with our office mats, believe in god, contribute in our home budget, do all achha and sanskaari act without wearing traditional attire or as a house wife (all due respect to them, i am talking about the TV one with banarasi sarees, khule baal, full makeup subah subah uthate se bhi ....)

In reality saare ghar bunglows nahin hote, na sab ke paas karodo hote hain ki ghar par itne thath baath se rah sake... atleast they shd not portray them in negative.....

About Janvi... I dont like her anyway from the beginning and want her out so whatever as it will be last episode today ........

I am happy when a serial ends ... chaahe mujhe kitna achha hi kyon na lagta ho, as I doing have to stop watching them as I have done with ELAS and many Kekta serials

cheers,

This is the same reason that women who are in careers are having a harder time finding a nice guy - how many girls are marrying out of culture because of similar stereotypes?

In my circle of friends, almost no one is with a brown guy.

wow Mallika, youre on a roll, wonderful topic! 👏

you know, I never actually gave too much thought to this issue. But yes, why are "modernized" women stereotyped in serials as "vamps/villains?" Leaving aside, that most serials shown do play upon social stereotypes, I think its mostly symbolism. The type of "modernized" woman shown in serials as a vamp/villain does not necessarily have to be clothed in westernized suits/attire. In fact, the woman in a designed sari can be a villain too. But there is a connection between the two differently dressed women and that is frame of mind. Both the westernized vamp and the sari-wearing villain are negative because of their frame of mind. Most of the time, theyre shown to be aggressive, power-hungry in more ways than just in business, and such.

I think the clothes are secondary to the primary issue of negative frame of minds.

what say? 😊
