Ashutosh stared at the figure sitting on his bed...it was his suhag-raat. Radhika was sitting on the nuptial bed...dressed in wedding finery and with a ghoongat covering her face. He had forgotten about this till now...his joy over being made the majority stakeholder of KGH had clouded his mind...rendering him incapable of thinking about anything else...

A woman's image flashed before his eyes but he hastily tried to brush off the memory and concentrate on the task' at hand.

//She has probably been tutored by her mothers on what to expect ... what should I do now...lift the ghoongat? what next?...Good lord...this is going to be tough...normally I go straight for the neck...but I can't do that now...this girl is practically a stranger...I don't want to come across a brute...how gentle am I supposed to be?

Should I lift her veil and give some fake compliments on her beauty? then what? indulge in small talk? talk about college..her likes and dislikes? get to know her a bit better...kiss her on her cheeks...hold her...make her feel loved...Good Lord! do I have to do all that...can't this girl be less demure and take some initiative. Why do I have to work hard to break the ice?

Well...Ashutosh..no amount of cribbing can take away the fact that she is your wife now...she is all of 18 and has been brought up in a conservative family...don't expect her to take initiative..you will have to "deal" with her...better get ready for the task at hand...act romantic today...leave the action for tomorrow...but should it' be left for tomorrow..I am in no hurry..but what if she is quizzed by her mothers when she goes to her house for pagphera...what will they think about me if they find out that I haven't done anything...They have an obscurantist outlook on these things and I am an old bachelor..will they misread things if don't touch her today..a lifetime of reputation depends on this one night...phew...forget about what people will think Ashutosh Interact with the girl, guage her and then decide what to do next ... just be gentle...with her feelings and her body//

3 years later-

Papa...little Kanishk ran towards Ashutosh. Radhika was trying to feed him breakfast but he was more interested in playing with his dad before he left for hospital.

"Kanishk beta..mummy ko thang mat karo..be a good boy...eat your breakfast"

"Nahin khana" Kanishk replied

"Kyun nahin khana beta? "

"Bas nahin khana"

Radhika eased him from Ashu's arms...

"Radhu ...tum uske peeche peeche kyun bhaag rahi ho...servants hai na?"

"Yeh mera beta hai..unka nahin...wiase bhi sab kuch toh wohi karte hai...par, apka aur apke bete ka dekhbaal karna mera kaam hai...main kissi aur ko woh kaam karne nahin doongi.."Radhika added possessively.

"Well.. You can look after Kanishk...par mere dekhbhaal ke liye koi acchi ...khubsurat...jawan...Katrina Kaif jaisi dikhne wali koi laa do na ?"

"Accha..toh yeh baat hai? doctor saab ko Katrina jaisi dikhne wali naukrani chahiye? dekhthe jayiye...main aaj hi ghar ke saare naukaraniyon ki chutti kar dethi hoon"

"Toh phir kaam kaun karga? tum?"

"Nahin...naukar rakh loongi"

"Kahin mera patta cut karne ka irada to nahin hai Madam?...waise kaise naukar chahiye aapko...John Abraham ke jaise ya phir Varun Dhawan type ka?"

"Kaisi baatein kar rahein hai aap...main kya naukaron ko taadthi hoon?"

"Main unn naukaron ki baat nahin kar raha hoon...main to aapke iss personal naukar ki baat kar raha hoon..aapko kya pasand hai boliye...banda apne aap ko uss hisaab se transform kar lega"

Radhika giggled and touched Ashutosh's shoulders lovingly "Aapko apne aap ko badalne ki koi zaroorat nahin hai...aap jaise hai, waise hi mujhe bahut pasand hai...aur main bhi apne aap ko nahi badalne wali...mujhe patha hai ki apko Katrina bahut pasand hai...par main uske jaise chote-chote kapde nahi pehene wali hoon"

"Par Rajneeti' film mein toh usne poore kade pehne the...aur waise bhi tumhara aur real-life rajneeti ka bahut gehra taaluq hai na...us picture mein Katrina ke papa politician the...aur tumhare papa bhi politician hai"

"Apka kya matlab hai?" Radhika asked crossly..."Humari family waisi nahin hai jaisi uss picture mein dikhayi gayi thi...chii..woh ladki..chotthe bhai se pyar karti thi ... bade bhai se shadi kar li...aur to aur ..apni shadi ke baad bhi apne devar ko galat tareekhe se dekhthi thi...main waisi nahi hoon...shaadi se pehle mera koi chakkar-vakkar nahi tha"

Ashu decided to tease her a little more..."Shaadi se pehle nahin tha...par shaadi ke baad kahin kuch chal raha hai kya madam" he asked raising his eyebrows

"Aap kitne shaqqi hain...na hi mera kuch chal raha hai..aur na hi main aapka kahin kuch chalne doongi"

Ashu laughed at his wife..though initially he regarded her as a headache...he had begun to like her now..

.she was gentle and caring...it was hard not to be fond of her. He was successful in grooming her to his liking..the girl was way too pliable...life seemed perfect

The child was Lallan's desire which Ashu had fulfilled..though his early arrival was courtesy Kaushalya's emotional entreaties to Radhika. Scarred by what she had to endure at the hands of the society due to her infertility, she wanted Radhika to have a baby as early as possible. Blinded by her ignorance, she had developed an unhealthy opinion about contraceptives and wanted Radhika to avoid them till she gave birth to a son...that way no harm would be done even if those "goddamned" things impaired her fertility.

Though Ashutosh wanted Radhika to turn 21 before they plan for a child..the prospects of remaining childless for 3 years after marriage horrified Radhika...such delays' never happened voluntarily in her world...people would ask uncomfortable questions...her parents would be distressed...and moreover even she wanted a beta'...She repeated what her Ammaji had told her..Ashutosh had no option but to bow before his elder saas's wisdom'.

Kanishk was the apple of Lallan's eye..not that the Tripathis didn't love him...

Kanishk meanwhile wriggled free and ran out of the room...Radhika and Ashutosh were alone now...Ashutosh gave Radhika a flirty gaze...he stopped her from following Kanishk and took away the bowl she held in her right hand...

"Accha..toh mein yeh keh raha tha ki tum bhi kuch-kuch Katrina ki tarah dikhthi ho..."

He ran his fingers over her face and said..."tumhara rang uske jaisa hai...aankhen bhi todhi-bahut usse milthi hai (he kisses her eyes)...honth bhi (he gives her a quick peck)...aur tumhari kamar...uski kamar se bhi acchi hain...his hands strayed over her silky waist...he was about to proceed further above when his phone rang...

It was from the hospital...

Abhishek was dead...his car had a head on collision with a speeding truck on Lucknow highway. Lallan's right hand man Pandey too succumbed to his injuries.
