I know this topic is not connected with the story of KTLK and at this point TRPs do not even matter for this show, but I remember the days when we used to collectively wonder why KTLK's TRP went down especially when the episodes were very good...
And after the new system came around Sony has taken a big plunge with all their shows. đ˛ So, me being the logical and analytic type could not let it go without thinking about it. And these are some of the reasons I could think of for where Sony as a channel is lagging behind...
1. Its good to be simple and realistic but since they are competing with the other channels they need to up the glamour quotient and make the product look appealing...
2. And sometimes one needs to initially invest more into a business to get more returns. Don't say it works all the time, but here Sony needs to do it... they need to spend a whole lot more on their promos, show them often and make those promos longer as well... like instead of a combined promo for all their shows they need to make two new promos each week for each of their shows, one short promo for weekdays between their shows and a longer promo for the weekends...
3. Talking about promos, Sony also needs to strategise. They should start showing the short promos of the next show in between the previous show, that way they could try and entice people to hang around for the next show as well.
4. Sony always come up with very different concepts for their show but they are unable to carry them forward, they loose it when they have to build up on the concept. So strong foundation, weak structure above...It clearly means they need to revamp their CVs team that takes their shows forward after getting the initial concept in place...
5. And maybe the four episodes a week is hurting them. To compete with other channels maybe they should also move to 5 episodes,a proper week. You know when they loose the one day an the other channels have that one day, Sony looses continuity. The other channels have an extra day to build up suspense and most people will tune in to see where they left off on Friday and most times Thursday gets forgotten... too long a gap, four days between Thursday night and Monday night!
6. Finally Sony hardly repeat their shows in the weekend, whereas other channels are constantly beaming repeats in the form of marathons, special episodes, etc during the weekend... so out of sight out of mind, Sony shows simply get forgotten over the weekend! And if not repeats they need to keep beaming long promos for all their shows throughout the weekends to keep that interest among the viewers...they are simply not competing enough!
Many of you may not even be interested in reading something like this at this time. But still since we are hoping for Season2 it will be good if Sony made some strategic changes now. If they do maybe when Season2 happens the TRPs for a show like this will be what it truly deserves...
