@ green - well, a lot of things disappointed me in the show - so, its like i m trying to portray things the way i felt they should have shown.

And Mallu is imp. to my story yet i wont et her overshadow AshNi - infact, you will see a very strong balanced Ashu who is a very faithful hubby (in every sense- in the show i felt that he let Mallika walk over Nidhi's rights, which is not a sign of a good hubby) and a very good friend to Mallika as well.

BUt whether i actually continue my story beyond the marriage would depend on the response i get for this update - otherwise i will cut short the story and the next will the last chapter.

Chapter 4:

Four people were sitting quietly in the drawing-room. The 20 minutes of waiting seemed like 20 years to the 3 as BB was totally silent throughout...all attempts at any conversations by Ashu, Nidhi and Armaan were completely thwarted by him. Ashu was worried on one hand for BB heath and on the other hand his heart sank when he imagined what fireworks were to follow as soon as these two bitterly estranged men met. Maybe he had taken his luck for granted too soon. Maybe he and Nidhi were not meant to be after all. How could he even think he could get so lucky ... he, who had been cursed since childhood.

Nidhi's thoughts too were in the same direction, while Armaan had been cursing himself. All this would not have happened if he had held his tongue... he would be the reason for ruining AshNi's happiness. AshNi were looking helplessly at each other when, the door-bell rang. All 3 sprang upto to their feet. BB said sternly, "tum teeno yahi ruko. Hiraman, jaake darwaaza khol aur Col. Verma ko yaha leke aa." HK, who had prudently holed himself up in the kitchen, immediately rushed forward to open the door as BB warned the 3, "yaad rakhna, koi beech me nahi bolega".

CV had been feeling apprehensive since he received that call from BB, he wondered what the matter was. Neither Ashu nor Nidhi had called him. He was so worried that he had rushed to Ashu's house.

The earth seemed to vanish beneath his feet when he saw Dr. Mathur sitting in Ashu's drawing room, when he followed HK there. He involuntary took a step back, then, uttered, "Aap...?" Then looking at Ashu, "Dr. Ashutosh, ye...ye sab...ye aapke.." "usse kya baat karte ho? Main uska Baba hoon, mujhese baat karo", growled BB. CV looked at him in confusion, when BB continued, "haan, Ashutosh wohi bachcha hai jise maine god liya tha. Really Col., I'm amazed at your audacity! 25 saal pahle tum meri beti ko bhaga ke le gaye, aur usse ji nahi bhara toh ab mere bete ki zindagi ka faisla bhi tum hi karoge kya". CV is miserable by now. He falls at BB's feet and cries, "Please Dr. Mathur, mujhe ehsaas hai ke 25 saal pahle maine kitna galat kadam uthaya... lekin pl. meri galati ki sazaa Nidhi ko mat dijiye. Kaash mujh me woh karne ki himmat hoti jo Dr. Ashutosh ne 15 din pahle kiya hota toh shayad hum aaj is mod pe nahi khade hote. Dr. Ashutosh chahte toh meri galti daura sakte the lekin..."
"haan lekin tumne bhi toh woh galti nahi ki jo maine 25 saal pahle ki thi" and so saying, BB helped CV to his feet. CV looked confused while BB continued, "Kaash maine apne ego ko side me rakhkar ek pita ki tarah socha hota...kya tum mujhe maaf nahi karoge?" so saying, BB folded his hands, to which CV shook his head as if to say, pl. don't do that. Both men hug and all 25 years worth of guilt, regret and pain flows away in the form of tears.

The 4 people (Ashu, NIdhi, Armaan, and HK), who bear a witness to the scene, heave a collective sigh of relief. Armaan is finally back to his jolly self, says melodramatically, "Chodo kal ki baaten, kal ki baat purani... Ab in dono love birds ka kya karna hai Baba, inhe kya sazaa di jaaye ... maar diya jaye ke chhod diya jaaye"

Everyone burst out laughing with the exception of BB, who looks sternly at everyone. "haan Armaan inka faisla toh main hi karoonga. Aur mera faisla ye hai ke unke is gunaah ke liye jald se jald umar kaid de di jaaye. Jat mangni aur pat byah!"

Everyone's expression changes from tension-filled to delight in the span of a few seconds. Armaan bearhugged BB and shook hands with CV, and AshNi threw covert relieved and happy glances at each other and after some nainon ki bhasha, got up and touched BB's feet and then CV's feet. CV said, "Dr. Ashutosh, pl. yoon baar baar mere pair mat chhooiye." "Theek hai sir, lekin aap bhi pl. mujhe sirf Ashutosh aur tum kahiye, mujhe zyaada achha lagega." "Theek hai Ashutosh, lekin tumhe bhi mujhe Baba kehna hoga" "Ji Baba"

BB placed his arm around Nidhi saying, "in dono ka toh tai ho gaya, lekin hamari situation zyaada complicated hai." Nidhi is confused, "Ji Nanaji main kuch samjhi nahi." "Nanaji? Tu apne sasur ko Nanaji kahegi? Yehi toh complication hai". Nidhi says, "nahi aapko Baba kahungi" BB teased her again, "toh tu apne nana ko Babaa kahegi?" By now, Nidhi was totally confused, "toh phir kya kahoon? Aap hi bataiye". BB burst out laughing, "Teri jo marzi aaye voh kehna ... Actually ek idea aaya, waise tu mujhe Baba bulana lekin jab tujhe is nalayak (catches hold of of Ashu's ears) ki shikayat karni ho na tab Nana kehna" Nidhi nods happily and looks at Ashu in triumph.

Armaan chuckled, "Ashu tu toh gaya, abbe kambaqt, tujhe pyaar karne ke liye tere Baba ki naatin hi mili thi kya? Ab dekh lena, ye dono nana-natin milke kya mazaa chakhate hain. You sure na ke you wanna go ahead with this marriage?" Ashu sighed exasperatedly, 'Very funny Armaan!"

BB cuts in, " Armaan Ashu, tum dono ki faltu baten khatam ho gayi ho to hum kuch kaam ki baaten karen?" and turns to CV. CV says respectfully, "Ji kahiye Dr. Mathur, main shagun leke kab aaoon, sagai kab karni hai?" BB says, "Yograj, kya tum bhi mujhe Nandini ki tarah Baba nahi bula sakte?" "Of course Baba! To phir kahiye kya karna hai aur kab karna hai? Aap jaise kahenge waisa hi hoga" "To phir theek haan aaj shyaam ko hi in dono ki sagai karva dete hai" CV looks surprised, "Ji aaj hi...lekin taiyyari?"

Armaan butted in, "arre Col. Verma, taiyyari kya karni hai? Sirf engagement rings khareedni hain, lunch ke baad in dono ko bhej dete hain ye dono engagement rings kharid lenge aur phir wahan se mere boutique aajaayenge aur kapde le lenge." BB agrees, and calls HK, "Hiraman, who hamare panditji haina unka number hai kya tere paas?" HK nods and BB calls the pandit.

Meanwhile, Armaan calls Rohan and Nidhi calls Anji to inform about everything, Both are delighted and agree to help Armaan with all the arrangments and rush to MN. Over lunch, they decide everything and each one is handed some responsibility by Armaan and BB. CV is a bit quiet throughout this discussion. BB notices this and asks him the matter and CV explains hesitantly that DB and Solanki are totally against this match. This puts a dampener on everyone's mood and Ashu wonders if he should try to talk to them and try to convince. CV refuses saying as far as he knows them, the more one tries to convince them, the more unyielding they would be. He says once AshNi are married, they would gradually accept the decision. CV's only worry was that he and Shyama would have to take care of everything on the girl's side. Armaan assured him that he need not worry about the arrangement and BB too reminded CV him that he was Nidhi's nana too. CV was relieved. It was decided that the engagement would take place at Nidhi's house at around 7 pm. That would ensure atleast DB's presence in the engagement.

They had barely finished lunch when the pandit arrived. He immediately agreed to come at 7pm for the puja preceding the engagement. But he had to leave by 7.30 for some other ritual. Everyone agreed. Then, the topic of the marriage date was discussed with the pandit. He said that there were two good mahurats. One was day after tomorrow and the other was after 2 months.

BB looks teasingly at AshNi, "Parson tak toh taiyyari nahi ho payegi. Aisa karte hain do mahine baad ka hi tai karte hain, kyun Yograj theek haina?" There is obvious disappointment on AshNi's faces, which makes everyone laugh, making them blush. BB says, "Chalo Yograj in dono se do mahine tak sabra nahi hoga. Toh, parson ka hi mahurat tai raha"

Ashu tries to save his face by saying, "arre Baba, lekin itni jaldi kaise sab hoga ... I mean arrangements"

Armaan butts in, "arre meri jaan, tere liye ye bhi kar lenge...kyun tujhe dar lag raha hai kya shaadi se?" As Ashu glares at him, Armaan continues, "Dekhiye Baba, man me laddoo phut rahe hain aur behave aise kar raha hai ke..." Ashu could no longer hold his glare and managed to control his laughter with great difficulty and even Nidhi was in the same state. Rohan and Anji were constantly giving her teasing looks and she is finding it difficult to maintain her countenance.

So, everything was decided, and then, BB asked AshNi to go shopping for rings. But Armaan teased them, "arre nahi Baba, aisa mat kijiyega, warna pata chala, ye log ring dhoondhte dhoondhte ek doosre ki aakhon me aise kho gaye ke 7 baje tak shop me hi baithe reh gaye! Sorry guys, aaj ka din ko tumhe kabab me is moti si haddi ko bardasht karna padega. Chalo nikalte hain sirf do ghante me rings aur mere boutique se kapde select karne hain." And the trio left. Armaan left them alone at the jewelry shop to select their rings and went to a nearby shop to buy a diamond set for Nidhi that BB wanted to gift Nidhi that evening. As expected, when he returned to the first shop to pick them up, they had still not selected their rings and were lost in each other! Armaan hurried them up and then took him to their boutique where he asked Nidhi, "haan to Nidhi, mera matlab hone wali bhabhiji, kya pehenna chahengi aap apni engagement pe? saree, ghaghra choli, sharara ya anarkali" Nidhi first blushes when he calls her honewali bhabhiji but then gets excited like a child and almost shouts, "Sharara" while Ashu says, "saree" at the same time, and then both stare at each other in surprise. "Oye tujhse nahi poochha, bhabhi se poochha" chides Armaan.

Nidhi says, "nahi bhaisaheb..."Armaan smiles indulgenly at being called that while Nidhi smiles satisfactorily and continues, "aap mujhe saree hi dikhaiye." Ashu chips in, "Arre Nidhi, tumhe saree nahi pahenni to mat pehno tum wohi paheno...kya tha Shar...?" "Sharara, nahi woh to ek picture me priyanka chopra ko dekha tha tab se soch liya tha ke main apni engagement pe pehenungi, isliye muh se nikal gaya. But it was just a silly fascination. Main saaree hi pahnungi" "Arre nahi ab toh tum sharara hi pahenogi."

"saree!' Nidhi said stubbornly,

"sharara" Ashu said in the same vein.

"arre yaar bas karo tum dono...mujhe paagal kardoge...ek to pahle hi time nahi hai upar u too behave worse than teenagers. Ye bhi mujhe hi decide karna padega..." And he orders his staff to get the latest shararas and bridal sarees. "okay, tum aaj sharara pahnogi aur parson shaadi pe saree and that is final". Ashu seems happy at this but Nidhi pouts. But as soon as Armaan starts showing the Shararas, she forgets everything and gets completely engrossed finally she likes a particular sharara which has sequins all over and Armaan asks, "ye mere paas 3 colors me hai ... green, blue aur peach, aapko kaunsa chahiye?" Nidhi looks at Ashu for a second before replying "blue". Ashu gives her a knowing smile, and they share an intense eyelock, before being chided by Armaan again. Nidhi's saree for the wedding is chosen next and then a sherwani in golden brown is chosen for that evening and a light golden one, with zardozi work for the wedding.

It is almost 5 pm by the time they drop Nidhi home and then rush to Ashu's house. Ashu is pleasantly surprised to see Armaan's parents when he reaches home. They caught the first flight to Lucknow after Armaan told them regarding Ashu's engagement. Ashu's happiness is complete as they are almost like his parents. Meanwhile, at Nidhi's house, everyone tries to involve DB in the arrangements but she stays aloof.

By 6.45, Ashu arrives at NIdhi's house with everyone including Dr. Ranganath. Priyanka and Jyotika are already there. Also, Tamanna, Nidhi's cousin from Kanpur, is there. She is some 15 years elder to Nidhi and got widowed soon after marriage. She stays with her father and is quite close to Nidhi. Her father is CV's cousin and respects DB very much. He refused to attend the wedding himself when he came to know that DB is against the match, but agreed to send Tamanna to help with the arrangements.

As soon as Armaan sees Anji and Rohan, he says, "toh kuch dhamaal kuch fun plan kiya hai kya tum dono ne? Ya phir sirf bore honge?" Looking at Ashni drooling openly at each other, he continues, "in dono ko toh nain matakka se hi fursat nahi, hum log kya karenge?"
Rohan replies enthusiastically "arre Armaanji, aap dekhte jaiye kya mehfil jamti hai...sab milke antakshri khelenge. Compulsorily everyonre has to play. Aur in dono ko toh nain matakka ka mauka hi nahi milega. Kyon ki ye dono hi toh apni apni team ke captains honge, Kyun Nidhiji, ho jaye ladkiwale versus ladkewale?"

Nidhi nods enthusiastically while Ashu shakes his head, "Arre nahi, mujhe nahi aata koi antakshri wantakshri..."
Nidhi whispers teasingly, "dar gaye?"

Armaan, "Dekh Ashu ab toh izzat ka sawal hai"

BB says, "arre woh sab baadme pahle rasme toh poori kar len. Lo panditji bhi aa gaye." All rituals, puja, etc. are done. Finally it is time to exchange the rings, and ashu brings his left hand forward and nidhi shyly paces her hand in his and they are again lost in each others' eyes. Ashu places the ring on her finger and Nidhi too does the same, they are totally oblivious to everything and everyone around them. They are jolted to reality the hooting of Anji, Rohan and Armaan. They seek everyone's blessings and everyone blesses and wishes them wholeheartedly and showers gifts on them. Ashu spots DB and Kapil Solanki in a corner sulking. He takes Nidhi's hand and goes towards them.

Nidhi says, "Nahi, aap yahin rukiye main akele jaati hoon." "Why Nidhi? Blessings toh hum dono ko saath me hi leni chahiye na? Chalo" "Lekin woh aapko kuch bhala bura bolenge ya aapki insult karenge toh?" "Toh achha hi hoga, mujhe lagega kam se kam mujhe utna to apna maante hain, ki mujhe bhala bura bolen, ab chalo bhi Nidhi" Nidhi feels so proud of him and wondered how she had gotten so lucky!

But, unfortunately, they were disappointed. Neither DB nor KS let them even touch their feet. When AshNi bent down to touch their feet, they both simply ignored them and moved away. Just then, Mallika arrives and walks to AshNi, says, "Kamaal hai Ashutosh, tumne mujhe apni engagement me bulana bhi zaroori nahi samjha! Ye toh acha hua ki Baba ne mujhe phone kiya"

Ashu had genuinely forgotten, "I am really very sorry Mallika, lekin sab kuch itna achanak aur itni jaldi me hua ki mere dimaag se hi nikal gaya. Phir bhi thank you so much for coming. Aur hum dono abhi se tumhe parson hamari shaadi ke liye invite karte hai, I know mujhe tumhare ghar aana chahiye tumhe invite karne, lekin..."

"Bas bas, itne formal kyon ho rahe ho? Anyways congrats to you both. May you have every happiness in life." Mallika said with a forced smile and then continued, "I am so sorry, main aap dono ke liye koi gift nahi la paayi. Abhi ghante pahle hi Baba ka phone aaya tha toh main seedha yahi aa gayi."

"Come on Mallika, tum aayi yehi mera gift hai." Just then, his phone rang, "Hello...hello? ...hello" he excuses himself and moves away from the two ladies. Just as Mallika is about to launch another verbal attack on Nidhi, Ashu calls out, "Nidhi zara ek minute.." She walks to him, "ji?" "mere phone ki battery low hai aur ek patient ka phone hai" She immediately brings forward her phone, "Number kya hai?" She dials as he reads the number from his phone. "Ab aap is phone se baat kijiye aur main aapka phone charging me rakh ke aati hoon." She hands over her phone to him and takes his phone to her room. After putting it on charging, she is about to come out when she suddenly an idea and stays back in the room for 5-10 minutes more.

On the other hand, Ashu has gone out to talk to his patient, since there is too much commotion in the house. After hanging up, he looks at Nidhi's phone and gets exactly the same idea. He too spends 5-10 minutes outside with her phone.

They both come to the drawing room at almost the same time and Ashu hands over her phone, when Armaan hoots to get everyone's attention, "chalo chalo Antakshri shuru karte hain Ladkewale Vs. Ladkiwale, aa dekhen zara, kisme kitna hai dum" Everyone agrees, when Rohan says, "Lekin ek catch hai. Waise toh normal antakshri hi hai, lekin koi bhi kisi bhi word pe chhod sakta hai" at first everyone is confused then all understand. So, the teams are thus:

Ashu's team: Armaan, his parents, BB, Dr. Ranganath and Mallika (she reluctantly agrees to play)

Nidhi's team: Rohan, Anji, Priyanka, Jyotika, Shyama and CV.

Nidhi says to BB, "Nanaji, this is not fair. Aap log 7 jane hain aur hum log sirf 6 hain, aap meri team me hain."

BB is about to relent when he sees DB sitting in a corner and says, "Arre Nidhi, tum bhi toh 7 ho. Samdhanji bhi toh hain." DB behaves as if she did not hear.
Nidhi immediately nods, "Ji aap bilkul theek keh rahe hain, meri team me toh sabse hoshiyaar player hai, kyun DB?" DB still ignores her.

Armaan tries to lighten everyone mood, "toh shuru karen?" Nidhi suddenly remembers something and says to CV, "Baba, Tamanna di kahan hain. Woh aayin hain tab se bhagdaud kar rahi hain. Abhi kab se dikh hi nahi rahi?" CV says,"Nidhi tu jaanti haina ki woh kyun bahar nahi aayi" "Oh God, is zamane me bhi...? Anyways main bulake aati hoon. Woh aaj ke din mujhe mana nahi kar payengi". She rushes inside and returns with Tamanna (wearing a plain white salwar kameez) who comes very reluctantly. Nidhi respectfully introduces Tamanna to everyone. Armaan and Tamanna are shocked to see each other but manage to greet each other formally. Armaan loses his joviality for the rest of the evening and is in a contemplative mood for the rest of the evening. But everyone is too engrossed to notice or so it seems.

As soon as Tamanna is seated besides Nidhi, Rohan shots, "Chaliye chaliye ladkewale shuru kijiye Ma se"

They all get into an argument over who should start and Ashu says quietly looking at Nidhi, "Ladies first...toh ladkiwale pahle".

Nidhi nods and begins looking teasingly at Ashu,

Nidhi is about to sing, when Ashu catches her attention and signals to her to involve DB, and Nidhi in turn signals to her team and starts acting, "ya se...Ya se..." DB understands everything and is about to get up when Nidhi pleads, "DB please hamari team haar jayegi, ya se gaiye na, bas aapko meri kasam"

DB has no option, so sings looking straight at Ashu while Ashu respectfully lowers his eyes on hearing the song, "ya dil ki suno duniyawalo, ya mujhko abhi chup rehne do, main gam ko khushi kaise kah doon, jo kehte hain unko ko kehne do, ya dil ki suno duniyawalo, ya mujhko abhi chup rehne do, main gam" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poXBa76JNKk) and she chokes with emotion and rushes inside. AshNi share a sad eyelock and the song puts a dampener on everyone's spirits.

Nidhi is nearly on the verge of tears when BB comes to her, places an arm around her and sings, "mere ghar aayee ek nanhee paree, chandanee ke hasin rath pe sawar, usake aane se mere aangan me, khil uthhe phul gungunayee bahar, dekh kar usako jee nahee bharata, chahe dekhu use hajar bar, hoo ooo mere ghar aayee ek nanhee paree, ooo." This lightens everyone's mood and Nidhi looks lovingly and gratefully at BB, while Anji continues the good mood by singing, "o kithe gayi sharaab di gaddi, rum rum rum rum rum.. o whisky, naina naina wali baari khol ke tu vekh lai, rum rum rum rum rum o whisky, rum rum rum rum rumdil wali takni ch dhol ke tu vekh lai,rum rum rum rum rum o whisky" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1jf4n84TJQ).

Nidhi's mood gets a little spoilt, but Ashu gives her a look of assurance. She feels better and starts, "na kuchh puchha na kuchh maanga, tune dil se diya jo diya, Na kuchh bola na kuchh tola, muskura ke diya jo diya, tu hi dhup tu hi chhaaya, tu hi apana paraya

aur kuchh na janu, bas itna hi janu, tujhame rab dikhta hai, yaara main kya karu

Nidhi is completely astonished as Ashu gives her knowing smiles. She wonders how he came to know about her fav. song. Ashu explain thru gestures that he has seen her playlist on her phone. She is even more astonished. So, he had the same idea that she did! That's called telepathy or what?

This time it is Ashu's turn to be surprised and Nidhi explains that she too had done the same. Both could not help and burst out laughing. Everyone wondered what their secret joke was. Thankfully for them, Armaan was too distracted, but Rohan, Anji, Priyanka and Jyotika did not miss this golden opportunity to tease them. The antakshri continues till long into the night. The only other highlights being Rohan singing "chhupana bhi nahi aata, jatana bhi nahi aata,hame tumse mohabbat hai, batana bhi nahi aata"(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fg9G1dacXjk) while Anji and Shyama look on symphatically, and CV singing, "babul kee duwaye letee ja, ja tuj ko sukhee sansar mile, mayake kee kabhee naa yad aaye, sasural me itana pyar mile" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqXgiyE7mj4), which makes Ndhi very emotional and she runs to hug him .

The next two days pass off in a haze. AshNi get married in a grand style and finally they are standing at their house for Grah pravesh. Armaan's mother does aarti and then instructs Nidhi to kick the rice kalash with her right foot and then put both her feet into the thali with the red water. Nidhi whispers to Ashu,
"Aap apna bet bhool gaye kya? western style grah pravesh?" Ashu behaves as if he doesn't know what she is talking about. Nidhi shrugs and kicks the kalash with her right foot, and before she can place her right foot back on the floor, Ashu very gently kicks her left foot, making her lose balance. He immediately carries her in his arms, saying tongue-in-cheek, "arre Nidhi, sambhalke, kya hua? girne kyun lagi thi?" and carries her right over the threshold. Nidhi is so taken aback by his sudden boldness in front of others, esp. elders that she feels very awkward and shy. She literally pleads with him, "Ye aap kya kar rahe hain, mujhe neeche utariye please" "Are you really okay, I mean tum girne''" he continues with his drama. She almost shouts "ji main theek hun mujhe utariye". He smiles triumphantly and makes her stand right in the thali with the red water, so that there is disruption in the traditional style grah pravesh. Only Armaan is sharp enough to guess what had happened and gives Ashu a knowing smile and a wink.

The next ritual is finding the ring in the bowl. Armaan's mother drops the ring in the water and AshNi coyly put their hands inside. Once their hands are inside, Ashu constantly teases her by sometimes tickling, sometimes grabbing and even gently pinching her hand, all the while keeping a straight face, while Nidhi finds it very difficult to control her facial expressions. Once again, Armaan, sitting next to Ashu, is the only one who understands Nidhi's discomfited expression. He signals to Nidhi and suddenly pinches Ashu on his thigh. Ashu is startled and takes his hand out and Nidhi giggles, and seizes the opportunity to find the ring quickly and brings it out victoriously glancing at Ashu. He glares at Armaan, "That's cheating" "Oh really? Aur jo tu bowl ke andar kar raha tha meri bhabhi ke saath, woh?" Ashu blushes at that, while Armaan continues "Kuch bhi ho, Nidhi jeet gayi, to beta, ab tujhe umar bhar joru ka ghulam ban ke rehna padega." Everyone laughs heartily at that, while AshNi blush.
