Chapter 10 Visit to Bani Village Part II

Sleeping would be very difficult today, especially after receiving this good news, Nidhi was thinking while driving back home. She was so excited and was thinking about her packing, what she would have to bring along and also should be careful not to bring too much as they were already been warned before not to bring unnecessarythings as they are not going for holidays but work. Reaching home, she couldn't wait to call Anjie to tell her about the news, her excitement,and above all to help her with her packing.Nidhi announced CV and DB about the trip,CV was very pleased for herand told her that this kind of experience will be of great help to her in the future, but DB was kind of reluctant about her decision, but CV assured her that Nidhi is very responsible and she is big enough to take care of herself. After dinner Rohan and Anjie were both in the room looking at the excitement Nidhi was in.Anjie "Are yaar koyi bhi itna khush ho sakhthi hein apne family aur dost ko chor rahi hein chaar deenke liye?" Nidhi"You won't understand Anjie,when one day you will start to work then you will tell me" Rohan" Nidhiji is your Dr Ashutosh and her pretty fiance also going?" Nidhi gave Rohan a bitter look and answered him" O hello 1^st thing he is NOT MY DR ASHUTOSH and second thing as far as I know Dr Mallika is not his fiance". Rohan"Ohhh, but why are you so angry Nidhiji whenever I talk about these two" Nidhi"because I don't like to talk about people thing and you always talk nonsense that's why, now would you please leave me alone I have lots of packing to do, thank you" she told him with her usual awkward smile she always have for Rohan whenever he misbehave like this. Anjie was just sitting and couldn't help herself chuckling while looking at these two argue like this for each and every small issue. Anjie helped Nidhi in chosing her clothes and was happy to see this excitement on Nidhi's face but was also sad as she would not be here for 4 days. Anjie"So, tell me Dr Nidhi, what's making you more excited the trip or being away from us for all these days?" Nidhi"Come on Anjie how could I be happy to be far away from you all, this is really impossible and where do you come up with these kinds of ideas? ofcourse the trip yaar, this would be really a good experience for me you know, and guess what Dr Mallika will not be there with us hooray so we won't be having to stress so much about what we will do" she told her excitedly. Anjie"But Nidhi, what did you plan to do there?, I thought you were going on a medical visit there, so you would probably have lots of people to look after right? so where will you find time for your masti?"Nidhi" Ya Anjie tum bhi naaa, we are not going to treat the people 24 hours a day ofcourse for sure we would have some time for ourself I really hope so" Anjie"You mean you will have time with your Dr Ashutosh?" she told her with her puzzled look. Nidhi"stop it you also I told you guys before HE IS NOT MY DR ASHUTOSH, and after all it's not him who chose me to accompany them it's Dr Rangnath you know the one who always ask me about you" Nidhi told her amusingly. Anjie couldn't help herself from blushing and told Nidhi that she knows that Dr Rangnath is a flirt so doesn't mind about him. It was time for Anjie to leave, she gave Nidhi a warm hug and wished her all the best and told her that this is an opportunity for her to try to think about her feelings about Dr Hardstone. They both burst into a loud laugh and got quite emotional also.

After being assured that she packed up everything, Nidhi tried to find some sleep but couldn't really close her eyes as she was so much excited. On the other hand Ashutosh also have already packed all his things and was always ready for this kind of visit, but this time it would be different he thought. This time Nidhi will be there with him and he will have a chance to be with her at least out of work he would be able to have a little chat with her. Thinking of this brought a large smile on his face. Then giving it a second thought, he realized that may be he is going a bit too fast with this, what if Nidhi doesn't feel anything of that sort for him, what if it was only lust. He couldn't stop himself of asking all these questions and went directly to bed as tomorrow will be a tough day, he thought.

It was 7.30 a.m sharp and everyone who was supposed to go for the medical visit was all on time except Nidhi. Ashutosh was constantly looking at his watch and this was irritating him so much. He couldn't believe this girl, this one who was arguing with him to let her come along, who was so excited and now she is the one who was late. Ashutosh told Dr Rangnath that they will wait for five more minutes and if Dr Nidhi is not here within these five minutes , they will leave witout her. Just at the same time they are all heard a cheerful "Good morning everyone". Turning around to give her the usual lesson of being late Ashutosh couldn't help himself starring at this creature in front of him. She was wearing a cream blouse tight over her well shaped body, a smart jacket and jeans and changing the look of her hair she made her preferred pony tail hait style.It was simple clothes but they were making her looking so gorgeous, Ashutosh eyes linger on her and she senses his lust, but it's as if she's used to that. She glances back and he quickly looks away. Ashutosh" Dr Nidhi, I think I was crystal clear yesterday that we have to leave here early morning right?". Nidhi " But Sir, it is still early morning 7.35 a.m, usually I'm still sleeping at this time but you know today I have a made a great exception by waking up so early at 5 o'clock just only to be able to reach here on time" she told her with all her innocence. Everyone was looking at her uncomprehendingly, by thinking how could she be telling all these things to Dr Ashutosh. Ashutosh was trying hard to retain his anger " but still Dr Verma you are late". Looking at her watch Nidhi responded" Only 5 minutes Sir so wat". Ashutosh was about to yelled but just at the same time seeing that the situation is going out of control Dr Rangnath intervenes "Sir, I think you should be leaving now right, everything is ready, shall we go". Giving Nidhi his awkward look he left the room to take his things in his cabin.Dr Priyanka " Hey Nidhi what's wrong with you why do you always try to get into trouble with Dr Hardstone?" Nidhi " Arey yaar yeh kharoos hein na he always find an excuse to shout at me right, I am late only for five minutes, and he is making a whole story out of it, uska problem kya hai mere saat patha nahin" they all laugh at it and Dr Rangnath ask them to be ready to leave.Five doctors were going, Drs Priyanka, Jhotika,Nidhi,Rahul and Ashutosh, so they all got in Dr Ashutosh's car. Bani village was not that far from Lucknow, it would take them like more than 2 hours drive, but Dr Ashutosh insisted of staying there rather than going and coming back as it would save them time. This time he wanted to go to the remote place where people are unable to get easy access to medical treatment and vaccines, so one more reason to stay over. The head of the village had made necessary arrangements for them to stay. During the whole way Nidhi was comfortably sleeping and this was well seen by Ashutosh through the rear-view mirror and he adjusted it to get a better look at her. She was looking like an angel and it seems really that she woke up early today, that's why she was sleeping all through. Ashutosh couldn't help himself chuckling. It was already half past nine when they reached there. When seeing the car approaching some children were rushing around to have a look as they were aware of the visit of the doctors today, some of them were very fond to see Dr Ashutosh again as he has always been kind to them and some of them started to cry. Ashutosh parked his car under the shades of a big tree and they all got out of the car except Nidhi.They were all welcome by the head of the village Mr Surriprasad and some residents. Dr Ashutosh asked them how they were and that Mr Suriprasad thank Ashutosh for coming again to help them. Ashutosh started to introduce his team and finally realized that Nidhi was still sleeping in the car. They all turn around to look at the car but couldn't find her. Ashutosh excuses himself and made his way back to the car, to his utmost surprise Nidhi made herself at ease lying on the back seat putting her leg up completely and was in deep sleep. Even in her sleep she was looking epically gorgeous and breath-taking. Ashutosh was controlling himself he was lost he couldn't really decide how he should be reacting, he wanted to yell at her but couldn't, this girl will surely drive him insane he thought. He had to wake her up, but how, should he touch her, shout at her, call her, how will he do it. With a low voice he called her " Dr Nidhi,it's time to wake up now, everybody is waiting for you outside" this was the only thing he could say. Nidhi just realize she heard Dr Ashutosh calling her in her dreams but when she woke up it was not a dream, it was actually him calling her. She felt so embarrassed and could only mutter " Sorry Sir, I just fell asleep for a while" Dr Ashutosh" It's not for only a while Dr Verma it's been hours you are sleeping, so now would you please come and join us" giving her a confused smile he turned back to join the others.Nidhi quickly got out of the car and joined them, Ashutosh introduced her to the people and all the kids were laughing to see her half asleep look on her face. Nidhi pinched Priyanka for not waking her up and they were all laughing again. They were shown where they would be staying, a special arrangement were made in a big guest house where usually they would receive special guess in the village. A special breakfast was prepared for them and they have turned one of the rooms as a dinner room where tables and chairs were put for them to have their meals. Soon after their meals they all started with their checkups, all the villagers were waiting for their turn to be checked and vaccinated. Some people of the nearby village also were informed about their visit and some of them have walked kilometers to be able to come for the vaccines and checkups. Nidhi was all very happy and excited to be part of this.

They were all very busy the whole day, and around 6 o'clock they decided to end it for today as it was already dark. Dr Ashutosh announced that he will be having a meeting with them just before dinner and ask them to be there on time giving a look at Nidhi, she lowers her gaze and pouted. Around 7 o'clock they were all present in the dining room where Ashutosh were waiting for them. Ashutosh" Hi again everyone , so this was our first day here and I can assure you that I'm really very proud of you all. There has been nothing being missed even you are all new to this I must say that you were all above my expectations and I really thank you all" They were all so very pleased to hear this from Dr Hardstone, he would always ask for perfections in each and every task and would never be completely satisfied this was great thing for them for sure. He told them that now they are free to do whatever they want but to be ready tomorrow morning at 8.30 a.m for another session. They were seated for dinner and Nidhi was looking at Ashutosh he was looking really cute without his suit, he was wearing a short sleeve black shirt and black pants. Ashutosh could feel her gaze on him and tried not to pay attention to it just to see if that will make her feel bad. He wanted to know Nidhi's feelings for him but couldn't ask her directly, so obviously he has to try to do things which will help him see Nidhi's reaction. All through the dinner he was talking to all the interns except Nidhi and this irritates her so much that she excused herself to go to her room. Ashutosh could see this perturbation in her mood and this makes him chuckle. Back in her room Nidhi was thinking why Ashutosh was behaving like this why was he ignoring her. She decided to go and ask her. She was so upset of how to ask him about that, what would he be thinking and she decided to go for a walk in the village and try to fetch some ideas. As Ashutosh was going back to his room, he could see her going out of the house quite anxiously and decided to go after her but she had already disappeared. He tried to make his way to her.

For a long time Nidhi could hear some footsteps behind her, but she chose to ignore that as she thought there might be other people heading this way as well. she thought she could get some relaxing time from herself. The night was calling her, but why not start from the house itself? The garden looked lavish and inviting. The lush green carpet invited her and she could not stop herself from paying a visit to such exquisite scenery. Just for once she thought of turning back when she felt there were hustles around. Her curiosity kicked in and she turned back to check what was happening. Just then from far away she saw Dr Ashutosh. Her curiosity was rising again and so she wanted to ask what he was doing there. But who was I to ask? She thought of going back on her way when he spotted her and her heart skipped a bit, but she was too good of an actor to show any emotion on her face. However before any word could escape from her lips he shushed me by pressing his index finger on his lips and motioned for me to come over. I looked here and there a little and hesitantly approached him, to see what he was looking at. And when I saw I had just mirrored his expression at what I witnessed.Two small kids were playing hide and seek, and one of them didn't want the other to know where she was hiding, so she asked Dr Ashutosh not to make noise. There was such happiness on his face looking at them. And he knows Nidhi well, he knew she would talk loudly and the girls hiding in the corner would be found so that's why he prevented her from making any noise. At the same time two teenagers were passing by hand in hand and flirting with each other. Both Ashutosh and Nidhi felt quite embarrassed at the scenes. Nidhi's face grew bright red when she remembered that there was another audience sharing this view and it was none other than her boss.She retreated back and could not dare to meet his eyes. Her fingers were all cold as she started fidgeting with them. She had no idea what Dr Ashutosh was thinking, all she could think of was how to escape from here.He then just moved towards her and motioned her to go forward.She didn't know he was accompanying her or going his way, the garden thought long forgotten. Where were they going? She looked from the corner of her eyes to see that a shy smile was there on his lips while he looked down with his hands in his pockets and just marched forward, and she blindly accompanied him.

"Where were you going anyway Dr Verma?" She looked up to see that smile still intact on his face. This just increased the awkwardness and uneasiness. Why would he smile like that? What she had forgotten was, she had to answer him. That she realized when he spoke again."Probably to the garden." - Nidhi could only nod as a response, her face was too hot and too red that shehad to look away immediately. How embarrassing - and he called me to join him. We soon reached at the garden and he chose a bench to sit. There was no more intention to admire the beauty of the garden. All she was thinking was - what was she doing with him after witnessing such an embarrassing thing? They both sat on the bench and the awkwardness just grew more, both were silent other than the erroneous breathings. Finally, he decided to speak and that was not enough to erase the tension.

"I was thinking that even here teenagers are the same like in Lucknow." He still looked down and she replied slowly, "I too thought the same thing."And then he laughed. "Funny how things work." It was not funny for her at all, she was still red, probably like a tomato.
"Look at you, you look like cherry. Ashutosh told her." She turned the other side and closed her eyes shut. Could this be any more embarrassing?"Okay, okay." He paused in an attempt to stop his laughing, "I am sorry, nothing to get embarrassed, I just dunno why I called you to see that." But Sir it's not your fault, you called me to look at the kids who were playing right" Nidhi told him with a sheepish tone. She knew that these few words would for sure embarrassed him and it works. Now it was Ashutosh turn to turn red. This girl she knows well how to chew her words he thought. Nidhi finally looked back and saw in his eyes that he was genuine, it just happened that he called her and they both saw what was happening. They could just forget about it. Yes, that seemed right, they smiled a little and they both sat comfortably, finally being able to admire the lavish beauty of the garden.
It was so beautiful; the ground was carpeted with rich green leaving no space vacant other than the flowers. Flowers of different color, shape and sizes were grown at the edges of the whole garden. Clean wide benches were placed at regular intervals. There was a big fountain at the center of it, water was coming out in so many different fashions, it was nature and it's beauty that kept both of us captivated for a long time before she decided to break the silence."So you were also heading towards the garden?"
"Um... Yeah..." Why did he stutter, probably he was lying, was he following me? Who was I to ask? Nidhi decided to leave it there." So Dr Nidhi, how was your day today? Not too much tired I hope?" Nidhi " No Sir, I'm fine, actually I feel so pleased to be able to help these people,can you imagine we never ever thought about that there are still people who can't afford to go see a doctor, it's just like a luxury for them" tears were filled in her eyes and Ashutosh could feel how sensible she was with these things. She didn't want her to cry, at least not now, he had to change the topic, but what to say. " How is your family Dr Nidhi, how is Col Verma and your Dadi Bua?" Nidhi looked at him and knew that he wanted to change the subject and she felt quite happy about it, but why asking question about her family. Now she knew that he was eager to know her answer, he wanted to start a conversation as if but was unable to find a subject, she chuckled but she just said "Yes, they are all fine thank you," and before he could hide, she had seen his face fall a little. Nidhi felt bad for a moment for behaving that way to him when he was just trying to be friendly, but she was an intern and he was her dean, her boss, her employer and their relationship was supposed to stay that way. Why was he trying to be friendly anyway? They had stopped talking and just sat there for some good 10 minutes, before Nidhi could not stop herself from taking a walk around the garden. Not wanting to be rude she asked him "Would you like to take a walk?"

She was nervous herself, how could she ask her boss to take a walk with her. What if he didn't want to and she was just forcing this upon him? Maybe he just wanted to sit there. But to her surprise he stood up with a bright smile and motioned for her to go. It was a pretty big garden and took us around 15 minutes to go round the garden. The walk through the garden was awkward to say the least. She was still thinking why she was walking with him and he seemed to be in a dilemma, maybe he was thinking what to talk. Butterflies swarmed around her stomach all the time. She was too careful while walking - just in case if she touched him or anything. Just when they were about to reach the bench, she felt his hand on her back, everything seemed to stop suddenly; it burnt where he touched. There was this narrow road there and so he probably wanted me to go first so that he could follow, but she was in some other world and she had not seen when he motioned for her until he placed his hand on my back. Everything seemed so clouded in her mind at that very moment, it was a slow and slight touch and it lasted for not even a second, but her whole body heated up. She quickly passed the narrow passage and reached the bench. Without inquiring whether he wanted to go back or not, she started going towards the Guess house.Just then a loud sound and bright light made both of them to look up and the sky was jeweled with beautiful colored light at once. Fireworks! she had not realized that it was almost evening, but it looked so beautiful in the evening sky.
Before Ashutosh could comprehend what was happening he was dragged across the garden.
"Come on it'll be so much fun." He heard her saying."But we have to inform someone, maybe we should not..." He tried protesting but was stopped by her."All that can be handled, but this firework won't be waiting, come on." She was still leading the way and he allowed himself to be dragged. What's wrong in enjoying once in a while. Her hand was in his till they got on the spot where it was. Fireworks were just starting and it was already so beautiful. A smile automatically grew on their face seeing these beautiful man-made things. Finally when they realized that they were holding hands, he looked back at her with an unreadable expression and slowly remove his hand from hers.
Their eyes locked and despite her best effort, she could not avert from his eyes until he stopped looking at her all of a sudden. "Come on, we did not come here so that you could stand and stare at me, we came to watch fireworks, remember?" Nidhi told him with excitement. Ashutosh could feel himself blushing and so was Nidhi when she realized what she said.Ashutosh shook himself mentally and followed her. The fireworks were amazing and when it ended it was dark. All the time they were there, they had forgotten everything, they were so excited and happy, as if nothing really mattered. Not caring that Dr Ashutosh was her boss, and not thinking that Nidhi was his intern, they had laughed together, enjoyed together. Only by the time they returned, that they remembered what they had done, they had become friendly. And it was not any other person, but Dr Ashutosh the dean and Dr Nidhi the intern! How could that happened? Then they both decided to return back to the Guest House, walking silently without anyone uttering a single word. Looking at Nidhi's face and her being silent like this did make him feel quite guilty though. Was it because of him, was he at any fault, did he say something wrong, what ws it that suddenly she just stopped being happy and talkative. But Nidhi was feeling quite awkward about behaving like a small child with her own boss. She was thinking that may be Dr Ashutosh would be thinking what sort of girl she is, just going out with him like this alone at night may be for sure he is having a bad opinion of her. Soon they reached the guest house. She was expecting that he would be angry with her for forcing him to go with her, but nothing like that happened. A smile crept up on his lips, maybe he was changing.Priyanka was waiting for her outside the room and was quite astonished to see them together and that look of her on them did make them both feel awkward as if they were caught doing something wrong. Priyanka smiled at us, she smiled back and saw Dr Ashutosh smile a bit, but she was not sure that was a casual smile or a formal, but she was still happy.Ashutosh was about to go in his room when he suddenly turned back to look at her, she was standing there with a bold poster and with her signature formal smile.
