Why is the woman always shown as insecure?

Every other soap has another woman coming into the picture and the female lead hyperventilating over the fact...the instances of men feeling insecure over the other man in their wife/girlfriend's life are few and far between...

Are women such paragons of virtue? Do men think they are genetically incapable of two-timing? There was a show called Hasratein many years ago, which showed a married woman falling in love with another man. It was a very popular show where all the characters had their own compulsions. The woman was not shown as a s**t simply because she dared to leave her husband and live with another man.

Where is that maturity today? Why have women suddenly been turned into devis who will cook, clean, sing bhajans, turn CIDs once in a way or mope around feeling insecure over the other woman? Or of course there is the vamp who will destroy everything in her path a la Mandira, Komolika or more recently, Niharika and now Mallika. Will we ever get to see real women on our television screens anymore?

Wow thats a great pt. a woman is always shown as an enemy to the fellow woman. be it saas / bahu or bhabhi/nanath or childhood friends..like Ichcha and Tapasya in Uttaran. star had a couple of yrs back introduced a new concept, "rishta wahi, soch nayi"...the serials turned from saas bahu rivalry to saas bahu gehri dosti. every MIL became DIL's mother and every DIL became MIL's long lost daughter. after a few months of this, the story line got stuck. no one knew what to do next if there are to be no jhagdaas..if a serial has a time period, like 100/150 episodes, you can start a story and stick to it. but everyone was hell bent on touching 1000 episodes so some took up doosri aurat ka funda, some family rivalries that last through generations and some had the great idea of skipping a few decades and taking up the story again!!

Through all this, bottom line remains that in most cases woman turns out to be the mercenary and man the victim. Is this the writer/maker's way of saying at the end of the day its the woman who has all the power and man is just a katputli with no spine?

If i remember right Hasratein was from pre-Ekta days ... correct ? Those were the days ...
I had to stop watching serials because of these negativity shown .
Got hooked to KTLK somehow...
Rarely do we get a story which is made intelligently. KTLK had all the potentials and I do not know much about other serials, but my guess is that it must be better than the others,

Waiting for Mallika's story to unfold...

Suja and Goodone, it is true that KTLK is probably the only half-bearable show on air at the moment...most of the others are plain unwatchable...reason why their TRPs are kind of steady...despite his Mallu atyachaar, KPji is sitting pretty because he knows this niche audience has nowhere else to go!

Edit - Hasratein was not exactly pre-Ekta...it was in the mid-nineties...Ekta had also started out by then...but I guess she had not yet become the Queen of Indian soaps!

I remember good old DD shows ( of DK days)... those were the pre TRP days and DD was the single channel on the air...still I find story lines were much better than the current ones...

How one can appreciate a bigamy case ( for that matter, I wonder what those women have seen in that spineless male.. I never get)... or can watch a woman depicted a 'bechari abla naari' or baseless (read headless) scheming villainy... is a surprise to me...

hi friends wonderful post. ... these so called great creative heads and bees and bugs they know to rattafy and show how one can achieve cruelty, insane, jealous and how to scheme, how to eye on others love and life, how to spot on to kill some one . these are the wonderful subjects they chose and to grab viewership they take up love as a subject be it an age gap one or whatever. Show 3 minutes of romance, love and screen play 3 months of torture. 3:3ratio. 1 minute of romance = 1 month torture.

They do this to gain business in the form of TRP which is

Torture
Rape and rupture of relations and morales
P pyar converted to vyar and pagalpan

and they want to show male mahaan and female bemani but ha one female who lives only for the male lead as Sati savitri

and female lead running to save her love and secure her life as she gets into a true relation she runs and peche peche bhooti aka vamp also joins the Olympic race with fire, knife, gundas rouwdys and other stuff with her ...

Truly, Mudra...the good old days of Hum Log and Buniyaad...when shows were populated by real people and not overly made-up dolls...even the early days of satellite TV were not so bad...till the 90s I would say,,,,after all Hasratein was on Zee TV...!
