Mallika has latched on to ashu because he has been a constant in his life, he has been always been there as a person who has supported her during most of her adult life, in all situations, from the smallest like plumbing problems, to the big things like getting her the position at KGH. And to some extent ashu has inadvertently encouraged her, he knew she loved him, he should have made it clear that there was no hope what so ever for anything other than friendship. Letting it go for so long, also increased her dependency. If you get used to something , it's hard to give it up. He is her security, in her insecure world, he is her pillar, where asshe has had to be the sole support of her family. So it is hard to give him up. Giving up ashu, means rocking the foundation on which she stands.

On a serious note, this also begs the question why didn't Ashu ensure that she let go of her obsession...I know you can't blame another person for an individual's actions/decisions...but Mallika is not any other person...she is his dearest friend...and, forget the personal level, even at a medical level Ashutosh should have known what an unhealthy obsession could do to a person...why then did he not do something drastic about it...

I would like to draw a comparison here with Nidhi's decision to leave for Europe...I believe that the decision was as much for her peace as it was for Rohan's...she knew her continued presence would feed Rohan's hopes and there would be added family pressure too...she knew she would never be able to give them what they wanted...so she chose to remove herself from the scene to spare them all the agony...I am not saying running away is the solution...but putting a distance surely works...in helping you, and in case the problem too, gain perspective...

On whether Ashutosh was aware of her feelings for him or not, I think he certainly was...there was no evidence of surprise at any point,,,,and he clearly said that he had not asked her to wait and in fact made himself clear to her on umpteen occasions...so he was aware she was not moving on...if you loved your friend and cared for them as much as Ashutosh did, should this not have pained him? I realize he could not have forced her but he surely could have done something to take himself out of the equation...sometimes, you got to be cruel to be kind...he could have moved away at least for a short period to help her gain perspective...however, it suited him fine to have a platonic friendship that fulfilled whatever little need he had for companionship he had...to be fair to him, he did offer her the same in return...but he knew that this would never be enough...she would always want more...he certainly was not to blame for that...you can't blame him as a person for his choices but he certainly failed as a friend...

As for Mallika, Ashutosh was probably her only failure...the only thing that she wanted but could not have...so it was a combination of a love turned obsession and a serious case of hurt ego/pride...so long as she did not get Ashutosh, she would remain a failure,,,and that was something she just could not take!

Normally if your friend falls for u and u know that u will never feel the same,U make it clear - Like Ashutosh did . But when u see that even after that , your friend is still not moving on, then u got to distanciate yourself from her.. Plus he continued to be a bachelor and complimented her, called her his best friend etc This put Mallika in a make-believe world and she refused to see the truth and also was wrongy encouraged By Sue.

i am not sure if anyone will agree... i feel ashu is also in some way responsible for her obsessive behavior... although unintentionally.. he did behave in a certain way which made mallika assume that she is 'special' for him... the first episode itself had a dialogue from a mallika " mujhe lagta tha meri jagah kuch khaas hai tumhari zindagi mein"... and why she said so was proved by the many dialogues we have heard .. they used to spend hours in london together... maybe 24/7..he used to smuggle pizzas on her demand... stand in long queue for concert tickets... become her plumber whtever... and finally.. be in same overcoat in london tubes... any normal girl will think tht this man has special feelings for her... and this certain confidence later became arrogance and obsession..when nidhi entered a space which she thought she owned...
and like u said..in pyar tune... i agree fardeen khan was also responsible..the kind of looks he gave urmila...
here ashu might not have given physical/s****l signals to mallika...but his acts /behavior ( unintentional ) brought him emotionally very close to mallika..which is worse than physical bonding i feel..
