...because I haven't seen a topic on this episode yet (read: Nur's Daily Thoughts) so just subbing of my own accord for a day 😊 Also, my first post on this forum.
So I wont make this an overall episode appraisal - but name out parts I liked, and yes those I did not too.
To keep the 'dislike' brief - I still don't find myself connecting with Ashutosh's past. Really. The whole FB scene was just sort of trying to hard to be subtle - which therein defeats purpose. Like the abstract 'music is your only companion in loneliness' philosophy which could have been a brilliant figurative idea, if it wasn't so ambiguous - almost like the dialogue writer himself lost the thought midway. (Eh. I know I pick on dialogues too much.) I basically thought the whole transformation between a then cheerful Dr.A to the Hardstone Doc now was... well, not well substantiated. And yes, i know we'll get to his history in bits and pieces - but that doesn't mean we shouldn't connect with each stage of progress in knowing more. I can't seem to, at all. Specially when I contrast it with Nidhi and her Dad's coffee scene, which was simple, even trite in a sense, yet beautifully done. The mild pang pf melancholy was impossible to not feel.
I also - to the possible disagreement of many - did not like the entire cabin scene. Let me begin with like here. Which was the whole Dr. A cuts to business, talks point to point - from the second he opens his door to catch sight of Nidhi's unwarranted presence in his office. Loved the way he turns to look back momentarily at Anji in his oh so that's what! manner 😆 Excellent expression by MB, and yes, even by Kritika - the little skeleton bit was cute and funny too as intended - but where it started to stretch out for me was when they counter block each others paths not once, not twice, but three times. Totally not needed when the whole scene had played out so naturally and credibly! Even the crazy antic of Nidhi having thrown his blazer over her shoulders unassumingly went by more or less believably - I pushed it down as a Nidhi extreme - but this block each others way should have have totally been avoided! Unnecessary, not to mention cliche in an otherwise well played out scene. And because they repeated the block thrice - I actually found the expressions of both actors lose alacrity too! Maybe I crib - but I was enjoying the scene so much, and then they went on and ended it like that - I felt cheated of my icing on the cake *makes a face*
I have to mention liking, VERY much, MB's subtle expressions in the scene where Nidhi explains why she took a decision to go for ultrasound herself - his transition from being on the verge of a reprimand to a silent inward approval - excellent job by MB there. And again, wonderfully subtle expressions, this time by both Kittu and MB, in the OT, Nidhi's to the sight of the first baby she helped deliver, and Ashutosh observing her reaction there - wonderful subtle touches which will add up in time to show how the dynamics actually changes between these two!
I have to add another - well not, dislike, but debatable scene. No idea what my opinion is over the whole chote sarkar and driving instructor scenes. Too much screen space with too little value - was my first thought. And too abrupt in the way its happening? If I did have to make a call, I would vote against this angle - or at least against the way its developing for now - too jerky!
And another quick like. The cards game session - oh how reminiscent of so many late family casual nights! A very natural touch to show the interaction - subtly but distinctly - among the various people of the house. Wonderful scene there.
And the Anji Dr. R scene - 😆 yes, definitely cute. I could do better with a little less cheese from R, but it was cute all the same. Especially Anji's description of all the disasters that have befallen Nidhi 😆 R's reaction to each added detail 🤣 and finally Nidhi's entry 😆 I don't mind watching a love angle between Anji and R (is it to happen?) with, if I can have my way, a little less cheese please, lol!
Mallika and R scene over Ashu's love life - average. I would have thought that kind of scene to have more potential - it was a half hearted execution, especially in terms of dialogue maybe? And Ashutosh's scene with Mallika over Nidhi exceeding her limits by taking decisions - a usual sound scene between them. Mallika showing signs of unknowing 'surpise' - like the slightest far far away but still undeniable raised eye effect to the way Ashutosh has defended Nidhi's potential versus her breaking a protocol - especially in coming from a disciplinarian like him. Not wary yet - but this could be a first step in the long run.
And that's that. Overall, mixed reaction to the entire week - but certainly an improvement with progressing episodes. Again, would really really want to connect better with A's history - so I hope the writers do something about that. Otherwise, looking forward to next week, and hopefully hour episodes each Friday!!!
