This show deserved a proper ending... For so many people, this show meant so much... We fell in love with the characters of this show, especially DevAkshi...
How many of us commented and posted on how they feel a deep connect to this daily soap and how they felt that this show is somehow telling their own story...
But, of course, for certain executives sitting in the AC offices of Sony, this is just another product to earn money or else, dispose of... I could understand that they cancel shows if they fail to garner any kind of audience, but KRPKAB was slowly, but gradually becoming a cult favorite...
This show, since it had started 18 months back, had captivated us and enriched our lives... It is just unfortunate how every good thing meets an unfortunate or a cruel end...
It is a pity that a show with such powerful content and substance is ending its run in the most heartbreaking way...
Tears are glistening in my eyes, while I am writing this post... Even though, I don't want to... I just want to cry my eyes out, but I will try to honor the tagline of this show, 'What we gain and we lose when decisions of our hearts are taken by our minds'...
This is probably, going to be my last analysis... I will still be active on this thread, but in all honesty, I don't think that I will ever have the strength in me to write another analysis, without breaking down and turning into a bumbling mess...
1. Sony's decision to end KRPKAB
The two main reasons for this abrupt decision to end this show are as follows:
a. KBC and lack of slots
It is a safe bet that Kaun Banega Crorepati which is of course, spearheaded by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan would have undoubtedly be the TRP toppers, during its run...
And, Sony who unfortunately, has such a poor business model that they needed a show like KBC to gain some profits... After all, even though, most of their daily soaps which have some solid content doesn't have the support of a good marketing or promotional team which means they will never win any kind of TRP charts...
This has been Sony's phenomenon since the last many years...
Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi, despite having one of the best stories to be ever told in an Indian daily soap, if not the best, with the lack of solid support from Sony, would have to completely rely on its popularity for its makers to have a chance of telling their story...
This worked well until now... But, with KBC resuming, Sony would have given its primetime slot, without any kind of hesitation... They never had any connect with most of its shows, and with Amitabh Bachchan in charge, they would have been assured to earn some good profits...
And, hence, KRPKAB was, as expected shifted to the next slot of 10:00 p.m... A natural change... But, the problem came in the form of competition from the TRP charts topper from other channels...
At 10 p.m slot, Ishqbaaz from Star Plus airs and since, most of the audience who watches KRPKAB also tends to watch IB... It would lead to a clash, in which the audience had to choose between any one of them...
And, while both the shows would have taken a hit, but since KRPKAB had a very less TRP as compared to IB, our show would have been affected the most, by this change... And, since, Sony only cares for profit, therefore, they would wished the makers to shift to another time slot...
The next popular time slot, I guess, is the 7-8 p.m period... And, with Moh Moh Ke Daage airing on 7 and earning TRPs similar to KRPKAB, it meant the only remaining slot would have been 7:30...
But, at 7:30, YHB from Star Plus (I am not exactly sure) also airs and unfortunately, another show which have resulted in the same situation as shifting the show to 10 would have done...
So, the only other alternative which might provided some sort of profit for Sony would have been...
b. KRPKAB being an Indian daily soap
For KRPKAB to take a mini-break...
Kaun Banega Crorepati, for all its popularity, would have only 30 episodes long, which simply means, 6 weeks...
So, it would have made sense for Sony to stop KRPKAB for the 6 weeks while KBC was running and then, resume it back at its usual 9:30 slot, once KBC ends...
And, with the break, in an ideal situation, the audience would have been more hungry for our show to resume... And, it would have resulted in a sudden increase in both TRPs and profits...
But, then, the question arises why this seemingly good looking decision was not taken...
And, the answer is simple... Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi is an Indian daily soap...
While western shows are known to mostly air on a weekly basis, they also known for broadcasting 10-24 per season i.e one year...
Also, these shows take some mini-breaks/winter breaks of nearly 3-6 years in the middle of their season... Because of this, while these shows goes on and on for years like our shows, but people are used to pattern of switching off and on...
Also, reruns become a crucial part of the show's income and earnings...
But, Indian daily soaps run on a daily basis, in a year long basis... Which means, for most people, watching a show becomes a habit and like all habits, detaching from a show becomes a difficult and sometimes, a nearly impossible task (as clearly evident through our mutual love for KRPKAB) for its viewers...
Even though, the content might not be strong, the simple reason that its strength lies in becoming a habit and hence, a sort of compulsion for its viewers allows makers to get away with showing weak and mediocre content...
And, if a show makers has the courage to take a break, to freshen things up... They give an opportunity for the viewers to detach themselves and due to the presence of thousand of shows, they quickly shift their attention to another show...
The concept of loyalty with regards to daily soaps, doesn't really exist... Which simply means, even if KRPKAB decides to take a break, there is always a risk that when it makes a comeback on our TVs, the TRPs or the viewership will remain the same...
The lack of huge income from other things through online sources or repeat telecasts doesn't help the matters much...
So, in the end, Sony decided to avoid the risk and just pull the plug, carelessly disregarding the thousands of fans of our show...
2. Today's episode and what it could have lead to, if the show was not going off-air
Today's episode, I felt would have made me so happy, if this heartbreaking news hadn't stunned us into silence...
2-3 weeks during the Dev's new rang track or near the end of it, I saw a tweet from Mamta ma'am said something on the lines of 'Dev and Sonakshi dealing with the next challenge: being parents' or something similar appeared on her Twitter feed...
At that time, I ignored it, but after witnessing the beginning of Vicky's manipulations targeted towards Soha, I understood it... I tried to search for the tweet but was unable to find it...
And, then, as the track continued to develop and built up, I became more and more excited... And, after watching today's episode, I would have been doing a dance, since all my doubts regarding the future tracks would have been cleared...
In fact, I believe I could have made a pretty accurate prediction on what would have happened, if our show would have continued on its natural course...
In the last few episodes, we had started seeing how Sonakshi was slowly moving away from the Boses and I felt that today would have just accelerated the process..
As evident from today's episode, Boses completely blamed Sonakshi for all the mishappenings in the company, like Sona was the irresponsible one...
In fact, today, they completely disregarded Sona's wish to be near her daughter on her birthday, even knowing what it means to their daughter.. And, their decision to leave Soha's birthday in between, just so they could play happy family towards Ronita, would have been the first crack...
It was clear that Sonakshi was more eager to be with Soha and would not have been happy with her family's decision to leave her daughter's birthday.. Well, she would have been, if the show was not ending... But, alas, this will not be the case...
I believe it also indicates that for Boses, especially Bijoy, it was only Sona's responsibility to run the company (as Saurabh was not good enough)... And, in return, they would act as her daughter's baby-sitters since they didn't want their daughter to distract from her primary responsibility of financially supporting her family...
For them, Sona's love for Soha and her responsibility as a mother is secondary to her responsibility as a daughter of the Boses... I think, this was majorly enforced by two males of the Boses, Bijoy and Saurabh...
While Asha, even though, would have been sympathetic to her daughter's emotional desires would have remained silent and never really went against her husband... Probably, this was why she was so eager to reunite Sona with Dev, since she knew that her daughter could only have relieved of her burdens, when she grows closer to her husband... She truly wanted her daughter to be happy and knew that it is only possible with Dev at her daughter's side...
So, as I was saying, that this incident along several others, would have resulted in Sona starting to feel the weight of her responsibilities and suffocated at her lack of freedom...
As she moved closer to being Sonakshi Dixit, she would have also started breaking away from her role of Sonakshi Bose... In the end, either she would have relinquished her role or decided to prioritise her family, then her duty to her parents or her brother...
This is where Soha being manipulated by Vicky would have become a catalyst in this transformation, before the pregnancy track would have finished this transformation... I am pretty convinced somewhere along these tracks, we would have finally seen the much-anticipated (but, now impossible) emotional breakdown from Sonakshi...
On the other hand, Dixits time with the Tripathis would have come to a brutal end when both Dev and Sonakshi would have come to know of Vicky's games... I am pretty sure that I had read in one of TOI spoilers on how both Dev and Sona would decide to celebrate Soha's birthday, out of town and go on some kind of mini-vacation...
Soha, after realising her parents' love would have spilled the beans on her actions, including the school bunks, lying and so...
And, Dev with the support of the Sona would have completed the rest of the separation... Meanwhile, Ishwari would also have realised how her brother's 'ehsaans' cost her family so much...
And, the show would have ended with a pregnancy track properly handled, with a lot of DevAkshi and Dev-Sona-Soha moments...
But, of course, all of this is just now more or less, a wishful thinking... I am still pretty convinced that this would have been the original course and the show, at most, would have ended by the end of September, or early October...
But, with such a small amount of story left, probably the makers might have initially tried to do something, but then, decided to finally end the show in this fashion, when they realised no other alternative is possible...
3. Being Good is a Bad thing
a. A complete disregard of Sona's feelings
In fact, for the first time, I understood why Sona is so emotionally closed??? If her own family disregard her own emotional desires and needs so frequently, then, of course, what she is experiencing in the Dixit mansion, even with the Tripathis' presence would have been tolerable for her...
In some ways, I feel that Dixits despite their shortcomings, are a much better family than either the Boses or the Tripathis...
I was so angry with both Bijoy and Saurabh's rude behaviour and Asha's silence... Considering Sona was so excited for her daughter's first birthday with both of her parents that she, along with Dev blew air into all the balloons...
And, the next morning, she is being bombarded because she was busy planning her daughter's birthday... And, Saurabh is just like Vicky... Totally in his own world, with no disregard to anyone's feelings except for his own...
b. Dev's unfortunate fate
I also felt pity for Dev... He is just wants to make everyone around him happy... But, in the end, all he gets is hurt and anguish...
The way both Elena and Golu behaved really made me sad... Soha's behaviour was not exactly perfect but I know that poor girl is being misled by the purity of her heart... Her heart is just like her parents...
But, unfortunately, people like her and her parents only suffer whereas selfish and self-centered thrive in this world...
No doubt, that Dev feels he is lucky to have Sonakshi... Despite their differences in thinking, at least their affection for each other is pure and unconditional...
Today, I realised how similar Dev and Sona fates' are... Hope that I could finally see at least one episode, which just centers on DevAkshi and their togetherness...
-Suyash.
P.S: And, this marks the end of my analysis days... I hope that I can enjoy the last few episodes, and hoping against hope, that this issue could be sorted out or if not, then, we can get an ending which could in some ways, act as a soothing balm which could heal our aching hearts...
I will be active till the very last day... Let's make the last 2 weeks on this thread as memorable as possible..
Come on, guys... This show deserves this much for bringing such joy and happiness in our lives...
