1. Ishwari's conversation with Dev-Sona

While we all are busy analysing Ishwari's decision to play the matchmaker and reunite Dev and Sona, I felt that yesterday, there was a very crucial scene that I guess, went under the radar...

Yesterday, after Soha's conversation with Dev and Sona where she agreed for Dev's remarriage, Ishwari spoke about something which I felt gave us an opportunity to understand her character better...

What she said reminded me of something which my mother has once said to me, that 'in marriage, the one who is left behind is the one who suffers more...' She was referring to the downward spiral and the pain that my grandfather went through after my grandmother has passed away..

In yesterday's episode, Ishwari spoke about loneliness that someone feels when their spouse is no longer part of their lives... We have discussed so much about Ishwari as a mother, mother-in-law as well as an individual but yesterday, we got to a glimpse of the wife in Ishwari which died after her husband's untimely death...

What she spoke was something that really touched me deeply... She spoke about how Dev and Sona is right now, hiding their own emotions by their responsibilities of being Soha's parents and their respective parents support systems...

She was very blunt when she told them that there will come a time when she will no longer be a part of their lives and Soha will no longer depend on them, like she does now (when she grows up)... She spoke about the lack of companionship and the void that her husband's death left in her life...

For Ishwari, her children (especially Dev) became the reason for her to continue living her life and struggle to provide her children with a bright future...

It explained and validated a lot of our discussions when we said that Dev was able to partially fill the absence of his father in his mother's life.. For the first time, we saw how the lack of solid support and companion in Ishwari's life made her more protective and possessive about Dev's love...

I really liked that small 15-20 second segment of their interaction.. Both Ishwari and Bijoy could have been invaluable to Sona and Dev respectively since, they could have mentored or guided Devakshi in understanding the challenges of being a wife or a husband, but due to their insecurities and pride, they were more intent on separating their children...

And, I really am liking how CVs and the writers are still peeling layers of each character even though the current track's focus is on something else...

Suyash...Thank you sooo much for this. Infact, I wanted to make a separate post on Ishwari's words, 'Tum logon ne zindagi dekhi hogi; magar mene akelapan dekha'. But since I didn't know how to put it in words, I refrained from it. So, for that one reason, I am going to post this part of your post separately in the main forum, even before I get your permission...OK.

After rewatching the episode (how many times shall not be disclosed), two things really stood out to me:

1. Ishwari's speech about loneliness.
It was such a poignant diagnosis of the problems she faced as a single woman all of these years. When her children were little and needed her, she didn't really feel the need for a companion. By the time they grew up, without fully realising it, she had groomed Dev into a defacto partner. Therefore, all of the problems she had with Dev's marriage stemmed from the fact that she didn't have anyone to turn to when Dev went in search of his own life. Sona and Dev's resolve to remain single and focus solely on being Soha's parents reminds Ishwari of her own path, and she doesn't want the same kind of crippling loneliness for Dev and Sona that she had to undergo, nor does she want Soha to bear the burden she put on Dev's shoulders as a result.

I think the advice hit home for Sona more than Dev. When Ishwari told them that the loneliness would catch up with them when Soha was older and their parents perhaps not around, it was Sona who looked up in alarm. Dev has learned to deal with being alone in different ways, finding temporary fixes for his loneliness in girlfriends and travel -- in short, he is just as lonely but has learned to deal with it on his own. Sona, on the other hand, relied heavily on her family (including Soha) to deal with the emptiness in her life. She has always had the luxury of taking her family for granted, and I think Ishwari's speech, for the first time, made her think of a moment when neither Soha nor her parents would be by her side. Ishwari's indirect actions are proving much more effective than her literal plan, I think.

2. Sona's justification for not loving Dev.
This was a revelation. Sona tells Asha that she can't love Dev because she can't forget all the bad memories, and only remember the good ones. She doesn't want to "climb on top of Dev's head" with all of this baggage. So basically, Sona is still worried about burdening Dev with a less than perfect version of herself. She is still afraid that exposing her bitterness over the past, revealing that she is not 100% magnanimous and forgiving, will mean rejection. What she hasn't realised, or is denying, is that Dev already acknowledges and validates that anger and bitterness, and he is trying to work through it with her.

He was much more comfortable when she was shouting at him in his room, than when she was doing her chirpy, fake BFF act, meaning, he doesn't want or expect her to forget the bad memories. All he wants is for her to be honest with him, and he is truly demanding it explicitly this time. Much like Ishwari did, Sona has to overcome this fear of not being perfect in Dev's eyes, and accept that her facade is not as effective as he is currently allowing her to believe. If he's playing along, it's because he believes she needs it, not becaue he is oblivious to the truth.

In conjuction to this conversation, I have a doubt. All the ladies in Bijoy's life are highly admired by Bijoy. Dadi, maybe for the way she single-handedly brought him up; Asha, for the way she supported and adjusted him in their initial days; Sona, for being that ideal & disciplined daughter and finally, Ronita, for being the girl who accepted his nalaayak beta. Whereas, except for Jotin (who doesn't have a direct relation with him) Baba doesn't have any appreciation for the other men,Saurabh or Dev, with whom he has/needs to have a relation. Would there be any reason for this?

I think it has to do with the way these different people allow Bijoy to see himself. Until recently, Asha and Dadi, mainly by ommission, allowed Bijoy to continue thinking that he was the idea son and husband. They never addressed his flaws, except through humour, which he could easily brush aside as fun family banter. In seriousness, Asha and Dadi only expressed pride and love for him. Sona took this one step further by really putting him on a pedestal. When he sees the in-charge Sona, he sees the greatest success of his life and when he sees her in pain, he takes it very personally as an insult to his life and choices.

Saurabh, on the other hand, has challenged him from day one and forced him to confront what he sees as his "failures." That is why, as much as possible, Bijoy always tries to distance himself from Saurabh, because the reflection in that mirror is not pleasant. It's actually very similar to what Ishwari did with Neha; she avoided seeing those parts of herself that she didn't like. With Dev, it was a bit more complicated in that Bijoy didn't like how the effect of Dev was changing what he saw in the Sona mirror. When he looks at Sona, he wants to see his own strength, pride, and principle. Dev and Ishwari brought in shades of doubt, and compliance which messed with Bijoy's most reliable, flattering reflection of himself so he wanted to remove those "contaminants."

That time in the hospital was the first when Bijoy realised that nobody's actually perfect, and the view in the Asha, and Sona mirrors may in fact be the ones that were distorted.

Thank you Sam for that well explained reply. Now, that makes me more excited to see who is going to get that honour of showing Baba the real mirror and how he is going to face it.

@grace, you have all the permission in the world to do whatever with my posts.. I write this posts to not only express myself but also as an opportunity to hear everyone else's views about it...
I guess, while I have started venturing outside of this thread to read other posts, but personally, my comfort level in this thread is the reason why I still continue to express myself here, instead of creating separate posts on the main forum...

So, I am always very glad that whenever spreads my views to other readers in the forum... Will be following your thread closely, if I could read something which makes my brain run like an overclocked processor (in common language, go into overdrive) just like the posts on this thread manages to achieve on such a frequent basis...

@Harryfan011 👏👏👏👏 For your post. And don't wary Ishu mata's plan will not get backfire. This is my gut feeling. Their will be situations where we will have a feel but it will not happened and my logic for this is that Ishu is trying to fix the things and for that she is using her manipulation techniqueand mami and vickki is also in the picture but she was not having the feel or desire t control their life this is the big difference so it will not backfire and she will get the desired output this time because I believe that with good intentions god helps us. And If as you say dev dixit is in the charge and he just doing this to get sona back in his life by helping her in this process by acting like this then he will now behave like a man who loves his women. And looking to the current state of sona her breakdown is very near. so ones she breaks down dev will be one who will pick her up.

and about bijoy very soon due to his acts he is going to make her family against him including sona which will help sona to get out of the guilt that his dad was perfect and have a perfect life and due to her desion to love and get married to dev he have to suffer. From last 7 years she is under that additional guilt so soon like dev she will get rid of this guilt and free herself from the burden of being perfect in the life. I hope I am making some seance.

@Sam, wonderful posts. Thanks for saying that Sonakshi needs to reveal her inner feelings and be herself. Thanks for this paragraph, especially the bolded part

This is what I have been feeling for quite sometime now and have been expressing in my posts. The need for her to be "perfect" in order to be loved is just in her mind which is very similar to Ishwari's insecurities. I am happy that I was not wrong in saying that Sonakshi needs to stop running from herself. She has to face herself just like anyone else.

The one thing I am thinking now is Bijoy. When Ishwari lost her pedestal, she was broken for sure, but still accepted it gracefully. What will be Bijoy's state when he falls from his pedestal. How will he take it. I am just wondering.
