Why so much late.

At the very onset let me apologise to everyone at the delay in posting the chapters. Am very busy at work. Am a chartered accountant in the real life and am upto my eyeballs in the financial year closing process..

Am posting chapter 3 of this story.

As always I want to thank of all of you readers for your wonderful comments. There are so many wonderful writers here in this forum and hence this praise means a lot to me!

Dev led Sona to the ICU where Ishwari was lying. As soon as they reached the ICU, Sona noticed the entire Dixit family was there - Mamaji, Mamiji, Vicky, Elena, Nikki and Riya. As soon as they Sona, Elena, Nikki and Ria came running to her and engulfed her in a hug and said "Sona di thank god you are here. We are all quite useless when it comes to these things". Sona just smiled and said "I will do my best". Mamiji immediately said "Dev - yeh tumne thik nahin kia - tum ise kyun laye yahan me - tumhe pata hain na iske wajah se kitne problems already hog aye hain is ghar mein". Dev said "All I know is that Sona is the only one now who can help us and she has agreed to do it for us as a favour. Chale Sona?" and he led her into the room. Sona approached Ishwari's bed and Ishwari looked surprised to meet her and said "Tum yahan kya kar rahi ho Sonakshi?" Dev replied "Next teen mahine ke liye Sonakshi hi tumhari doctor hai". "Lekin main isse treatment nahin lena chahti hoon". Sona then spoke up "Aap pahle hi mujhko pasand nahin kartin hain, lekin aap mere beti ki Dadi hain and is naate meri kuch responsibilities hain aapke prati and aur is liye mujhe apna kaam karne dijiye and main teen mahine ke baad aapki zindagi se chali jaaongi". Ishwari reluctantly agreed after Dev coaxed her.

Dev and Sona discussed the next steps and once Dr. Sinha agreed they decided that it was best that Ishwari be taken home the next day. Sona agreed to visit Dixit house the day after that at 8 AM. Sona took leave and went back to work. Sona got back to office and was very busy the whole day - it was around 8.30 PM when Soha called asking for her that Sona realised that it was very late. Swearing softly, she shut down her laptop started gathering her things on the table when she noticed a shadow across the table. She looked up and saw it was Dev. "Hi - What are you doing here at this hour?" she asked him. Dev replied "I came to thank you for helping Maa". Sona responded softly "Iski koi zaroorat nahin hain Dev. Mujhe chalna chahiye - Soha mera wait kar rahi hai" "Of course. Chalo main tumhare saath car tak chalta hoon" Dev said. They walked silently till her car. They said their byes and she left.

The next day, Sona walked into the Dixit House with a thick file and someone else in tow. As soon as she walked in she was greeted with an excited Nikki who shouted "Sona di is here and dekho aate hi unhone kya jaadu kiya hai. Bhaiya jaldi niche aaiye" Dev came down the stairs and was surprised and happy to see Kichu bhaiya with Sona. He said "Kichi bhaiya kitna accha laga aapko is ghar mein dekhke". Kichi smiled and said "Doctor didi ne mujhe bahut samjhaya aur kaha ki maaji ko meri zaroorat hai is liye main aa gaya". As Sona walked into the kitchen with Kitchu, Dev noticed that they were carrying a huge bag of groceries with them. She told kichu "Lag jaao Kichu bhaiya. Main Auntyji se milke aati hoon and aap subah ke nashte ki tayaari kijiye - chart yahin par hai".

Sona nodded to Dev and went to Ishwari's room where she was sitting on the bed and when she saw Sona she turned away and Sona said "Auntyji aapko mujhe sirf teen mahine jhelna hai phir main chali jaaongi. Accha apna haath dijiye mujhe pulse check karna hai". Sona went about her work efficiently and professionally. As she was leaving after an hour, Dev was waiting for her downstairs. "Thanks again - for bringing back Kichu". Sona smiled and left.

This routine continued for the next ten days. Sona would drop in on her way to work and spend out an hour and sometimes would drop in to check on Ishwari when she returned in the evening. One night, about ten days later Dev was home when she came by. He noticed that Sona was looking tired and she had dark circles under her eyes. She checked up on Ishwari and as she was leaving Dev was waiting for her downstairs. "You look so tired Sona. What happened?" Dev asked her. Sona looked at him and said "Nothing Dev. Just overworked". "Can I drop you back - I noticed that today you drove and your driver is not here. I will drive your car". Sona nodded and she gave him the car keys. Dev sat in the drivers seat and Sona sat down in the passenger seat. When he drove, memories of their courtship days became alive and both got nostalgic. Suddenly Dev stopped the car and looked at Sona intently. They just looked at each other intently for a while. Sona had tears in her eyes which she was trying hard to contain and Dev just said "Cry it out Sona - let the tears fall. The tears are necessary for us to heal". She just broke down hearing his words and continued sobbing. Dev waited till she quietened and simply took her face in his hands and gave her a soft kiss on her forehead. Dev's action took both of them by surprise. Sona and Dev both felt a little embarrassed and Sona said "I think we must go now."

They spent the rest of the drive in awkward silence. When they reached home, Sona invited him in and meet Soha as well. When they got in Soha came running to meet them and Dev sat down on the living room sofa and Soha sat down on his lap. Sona excused herself to change leaving them alone. She went to her room and freshened up and changed and was just coming down the stairs when she heard raised voices downstairs. She could hear Bijoy shouting "Isnt it enough that you blackmailed Sona into treating your mother. Why are you here now?". Dev was standing quietly. He simply patted Soha on her shoulder and said "You go inside to your grandmother. We will meet tomorrow". Bijoy understood his mistake and kept quiet till Soha went out of the room. By then Sona reached the living room and she told Bijoy "Baba I have told you before as well that I am helping Auntyji because I want to and not due to any compulsion. You have no right to talk to my daughter's father like this. He came to drop me today and I invited him in". Dev stopped Sona by just gently holding her arm and said "I will leave now. Good night".

Sona was very upset and went to her room. When Asha brought her dinner a little later Sona told her "is it too much to want a little peace Maa - I was just finding some peace in my relationship with Dev and then incidents like this happen".

The next day, Sona reached office a little early and went straight to Dev's room. She saw him and immediately said "I am sorry about last night Dev. I have explained to Baba and this will not happen again". Dev just nodded and said "Its alright". Sona gave him a watery smile and she left. She kept herself very busy at work the whole day so that she did not think about why is it that she felt bad when Bijoy got angry at Dev the last night. Suddenly she realised that it was nine PM and the office was empty with the exception of Dev's room where the lights were still on. She got up from her chair and went to the window and moved the blinds. She could see the road downstairs and the night sky. She sighed and pressed her forehead against the glass pane and thought of how different her life would have been had her marriage with Dev survived. She couldn't deny that she loved him a great deal and nothing would ever change it. There were many days like today when she just wanted him to hold her in his strong arms and tell her that everything would be alright. Just then she heard a movement in the room and turned around - Dev was at the door. He came in and asked her "Would you care for some coffee - I noticed that you were still around and ordered for you as well". When she replied in the affirmative, Dev kept a cup of hot coffee on the table and was about to leave when Sona spoke up "Why don't we have the coffee together?" Dev smiled and sat down on the sofa and said "I was scared to suggest that. Why are you so disturbed? Come and sit down here". Sona came and sat down and absent mindedly picked up the coffee and took and sip and immediately burnt her tongue and yelped in pain. Dev immediately gave her some water to drink and said "Arrre be careful. The coffee is hot".

Sona did not say anything and just looked at him. Within a few seconds they were looking into each other's eyes as if searching for the answers to all the questions that they had. After a few seconds Dev moved towards her and cupping her cheeks with his hands gave her a kiss on her forehead. Sona didn't know what happened to her at that moment and she couldn't stop her tears. Dev immediately said "Sorry I just wanted to comfort you. Please don't cry - I will leave. Don't cry Sona please" Sona did not reply but she just held him a bone crushing hug. Dev could feel his resolve weakening and he hugged her back. Slowly he moved her face up and kissed her softly on her lips tentatively. It was almost as if time had come to a standstill and nothing else in the world mattered. He kissed her a little harder. Sona kissed him back with equal fervour. As Dev hugged her tighter, he let one hand move on her back and with the other he held her head and bit her lip tenderly. She moaned and opened her mouth a little. He drank from her lips and she tasted him. Everything was the same and was different at the same time. Dev moved down and unbuttoned the first two buttons of her shirt and moved it off one shoulder and continued to kiss her shoulder. Sona bit her lips and allowed Dev to continue. He came back to her lips and kissed her again. Suddenly he stopped and said "I think I should leave now. Else I wouldn't be able to stop".

He got up and was about to leave when Sona said "Cant you stay tonight Dev and be with me. Cant we be just Dev and Sona tonight and have no past or no future. Cant we just have tonight". Dev asked her "Are you sure"?" She nodded and then Dev said "OK ... But not here. Lets go!" Sona straightened her clothes and without asking any questions followed him to hs car. They drove in silence to an exclusive looking building about two kilometres from office. Meanwhile Sona called home and informed Bijoy that she would be held up at office all night due to some deadline. She felt a little guilty about the lie but this one night was something that she wanted for herself... away from her past and her future. They took the lift to the penthouse and Dev opened the door using the keys and taking her inside he shut the door and locked it. He switched on the corridor lights and pushed her against the door and kissed her hard again. In the muted light of the corridor, Sona looked so beautiful and alluring that he couldn't contain himself. She held him by his collar and kissed him back. They continued kissing till they were out of breath and sweaty. Dev moved back and looked at her swollen lips and messed up hair and her breasts heaving and he was turned on. He picked her up and carried her to the bedroom and put her down on the bed gently. She kicked off her heels and pulled him to the bed. He came and switched on the side lamps. Sona pushed him on the bed and stood up. She unbuttoned her shirt... one button at a time till it hung lose on her shoulder. She unzipped her skirt and let it fall on the floor. She wore a black lace bra and panties underneath. Dev couldn't stop himself and reached out to her and pulled her to the bed and kissed her again. He murmured "You look so beautiful!" He kissed her lips and moved further down showering kisses on her neck and continued further down. He slipped the shirt off her shoulder and in no time the rest of their clothes followed one by one and ended up on the floor. Dev kissed her breasts and she moaned in pleasure. She held on to him for support and left deep red marks on his shoulders and back and she moved her pelvis against his hardening length. He kissed her cheek again and asked her "Are you sure?" "Yes" Was all she could reply at that time and he entered her slowly and then deeply and both found their release together.

When they lay tired in each others arms and little later waiting for their hearts to beat normally when Sona asked "Whose house is this?" Dev smiled and said "I will tell you tomorrow morning. Right now I just want to tell you thank you for this wonderful night. I will not forget it for a long time" Sona said "I should be the one saying thanks." She pulled him to her and they lay together on the bed, like old times, with Sona her back to Dev's chest and him resting his head on her shoulder... hands held together on Sona's tummy. Sona couldn't control her tears and a few drops fell on Dev's hands. His only response was to hold her tighter to himself.
