Yes, Golu is adorable. He is busy making his ideal family using Soha as a glue. 😆

Yeah, nowadays the execution, writing everything is so bad that it looks like a play more than a serial.

Only thing they are really bothered is about is Ish's screenspace and Shaheer's look.

All the rest gets minimum attention.

I love golu though...

Jas, the thing with Dev though, he always knew what was going on. He just used those facts as per his convenience where he needs to take least action to get most results. If you go back and re-warch the episodes, you will see that Dev always took the way which needed him to take minimum or no action. However, that's not to say that he didn't know what was going on. He was always 100% aware what was going on around him. But when lying and pretending gave him a cop out, that's what he did.

Nice update Tia. I am surprised at Dev's U turn! He admits he is not a good husband to Soha!!! This was quite like the time during Sona's fake pregnancy. He watches his mothers'affectionate treatment towards Sona and wanted the relation to continue like that! Which meant he was all along aware of his mother's dislike for Sona! And we were giving him benefit of doubt that he is not aware of his mother's dislike. But all along Dev knew that Sona is not in Ishwari's good books but never took any action anyway! 😕

Now also he realizes that he has not been good husband but instead of any remedial action he has shown only attitude to Sona!

Excellent points both of you. In this upcoming track, what I'd like to see is Dev taking the hard way. He needs to stand up for the people he loves against the people he loves and had been protecting despite their deeds and that includes his mother.

I agree on the point of lying. Lying takes away credibility. The reason Sona believed Vicky over Dev was because Dev ruined his credibility by his lying. The boy who cried wolf can't whine that no one trusted him when he spoke the truth because he himself is responsible for it. Even his own mother didn't believe him when Vicky said that he asked Vicky to kick out Bose family. That tells you something, isn't it?

That is why I don't find a problem in the basic character of Ishwari. Dev drove her to insecurity. He seems to assume things and then claim he can read their mind and he knows better. Imagine, if he walked up to his mum said he loves Sonakshi and that is why he called off his engagement to Natasha. Who is to say Ishwari would have disapproved?

The one (repeated) action Ishwari and Sona took exception to in Dev's character is his lying. That has manifested into this drama and personalities we see today.

Lying diminishes trust between human beings and lying is bad because it makes it difficult for the person being lied to make a free and informed decision about the matter concerned.

The problem with Dev is he lies so often that the line between white lies and blameworthy lies are so blurred. He broke his mother's trust in him, his wife's trust in him and his in-laws trust in him.

In real world, "I was afraid, so I shot the burglar who entered my house" is still a punishable offence. Why should Dev be shown to get away from everything because of his fear?

Irrespective of all the drama, if the writers are able to show us that Dev takes responsibility for his lies, I will be happy with this show.

No worries, Tia.

@RED, that was exactly my point. We don't know the past of the Bose. Dida speaks about Dadaji as that he left her early. But how early? And when? Asha never talks about Dadaji or her memory. Only Bijoy and Dida share their memories. So that gave me impression that Bijoy lost father before he married Asha.

We also haven't seen how a pregnant, homeless, jobless, in debt Sona gave birth and raised Soha.

CVs showed Dev and Ishwari's hardship in details. But there wasn't enough emphasis on Sona or Boses.

That's why I sometimes feel that this story is about Dev and Ishwari and Sona is just a side character.

Hi Tia di,
Great post and great thread.👍🏼.. Due to my work commitments, I am not very regular in commenting in your thread (and in the forum in general). But I had to comment this time as I have a doubt. (Sorry to interrupt the conversation)..

@Red: Did Dadi really raise Bijoy alone? But she often talked about what Dadaji did when she was young. Did I miss something?😕

Yup, true... they don't go into much details about the Boses. I would like to assume they are like any normal middle class Bengali family. I remember once in pre-leap, when Sona didn't know about Dev's struggles and thought him to be a rich, money-minded, arrogant guy; she had once briefly told him about struggles he knew nothing of and simple joys of life. Later, Dev's teacher had come and she became aware of his back story.

I feel, with Dev entering Bose house (as per spoilers), he would also become aware of Sona's 7 year long struggles. Actually, I too am waiting them to be told.😊

I too think this story is about Dev and Ishwari and perhaps even a reflection of mother-son duo in society.

Their love was their down fall. Their faith in each others ability to read their mind, know their heart turned out to be an illusion.

This story highlights a saying in Tamil which translates to "Even if they are mother and child, their mouth and stomach are different".

While Ishwari being the mother had an upper hand showed some dominance and demand, Dev being the child showed petulance. The love and trust they had on each other turned them into fearful of each other's actions and motives and in general, insincere to each other.

To understand Sona, Dev and Ishwari don't have to look too far, they only had to look at Neha and Elena. While Neha left her husband because he refused to put her above his mother's needs, Elena stayed on leaving her family at the time of their need. Given they haven't chosen one of Neha or Elena, Dev and Ishwari's inner character is baffling. They seem to want this, that and everything OR they don't quite know what they want!

I can only conclude, how they behave to everyone else is only a reflection of their relationship with each other. So, yes, Sona, the Boses, GKB, Vicky are all side characters.

@BOLD... in all honesty.. characters like Dev and Ishwari exist! DevIsh don't know what they want and if they do.. they want it on their terms and if they lose what they wanted and had... that's the world's doing.. not their own!!! unfortunately, Dev could have been the character that broke away from Ishwari on this when he found selfless love compared to selfish, self serving family he had.. where he was the constant giver, but writers didn't chose that route. Instead, they turned Dev into another ishwari.. result was a broken Dev.. cause' he is not Ishwari!!!

@BOLD GREEN, Jigsaw, that's a bull's eye point. And the only way to explain it is double standard.

If CVs showed Neha left her husband because he refused to put her over his family's needs and Riya instead of Elena stayed on leaving their family in need and they were neutral on both of their situation as in didn't blame or praise either one, then I'd have reason to believe that their ideology was merely in conflict.

But the fact is that Elena is their daughter-in-law and they have a different rule for daughter and daughter-in-law (for that matter they have different rules for family and family by marriage too). Ishwari always uses complicated Hindi lectures and lofty ideas to Sonakshi while blatantly ignored the same never applied to her own daughter.

However, while Dev often claims not to be a conservative man and such, he doesn't hesitate to use the double standards for his own benefit. He also blamed Sona for not putting up with his family's insults while charging Ranveer for not keeping his sister happy.

I am sorry but that looks to me that Dev always wanted to have his cake and eat it too.

He wanted to be among his family's comfort while his mother caters to his whim, but he also wanted a wife while never making her a priority or even willing to change a tiny portion of his life and routine.

He expected Sonakshi to stick around despite his family's insults yet she can't say anything to his mother. But he still gets to tell her to get out and she should just stand outside his door like a beggar.

He blamed Sonakshi for never looking back, while he never looked back either.

He wanted Suhana to call him dad while behaving like a petulant, spoiled brat.

In short, one rule for Dixits, another for the rest of the world.
